Anyone remember the songs they used to jump rope to.

Blondie & Dagwood went downtown
Blondie bought an evening gown
Dagwood bought a pair of shoes
And Cookie bought the Daily News
And this is what it said
Close your eyes & count to ten
If you miss you take the end

Hi, low, medium, wavy, walkie, talkie, slowly, pepper

I don't remember that one.

We sang:

Teddy Bear Teddy Bear turn around
Teddy Bear Teddy Bear touch the ground
Teddy Bear Teddy Bear tie your shoes
Teddy Bear Teddy Bear read the news

And

Cinderella dressed in yellow
went upstairs to kiss a fellow
made a mistake and kissed a snake
how many doctors did it take

Those were the ones I remember! :yay:

I never heard of those 2.

Fudge, fudge, tell the judge
Momma's got a brand new baby
Isn't a girl, isn't a boy
Just a brand new baby
Wrap it up in tissue paper
Throw it down the elevator (escalator) (don't think we knew the difference)
How many floors did it go down?
(then pepper)

Bizarre eh? Who in the world made up these things.

Down in the valley where the green grass grows,
There sat __________ as pretty as a rose.
She sang so high, she sang so sweet,
Along came ________ and kissed her on the cheek.
How many kisses did she get?
1, 2, 3 . . . . .

We did that one, too, only we said:

There sat _________ as pretty as a rose
Along came _______ and kissed her on the cheek
How many kisses did she get that week?

How about this one? I read it out of a catalog when I was younger.

"Measles" said the doctor
"Mumps" said the nurse
"Nothing" said the lady with the alligator purse

That's the one I remember (the Cinderella one)

I remember that as a clapping song:

Miss Susie had a baby
She named him Tiny Tim
She put him in the bathtub
To see if he could swim
He drank up all the water
He ate up all the soap
He tried to eat the bathtub
But it wouldn't go down his throat
Miss Susie called the doctor
The doctor called the nurse
The nurse called the lady with the alligator purse
"Measles," said the doctor
"Mumps," said the nurse
"Nothing," said the lady with the alligator purse.
A penny for the doctor
A dime for the nurse
A dollar for the lady with the alligator purse.

The rest of Teddy Bear, the way we did it...

Teddy Bear Teddy Bear climb the stairs
Teddy Bear Teddy Bear say your prayers
Teddy Bear Teddy Bear turn out the light
Teddy Bear Teddy Bear say good night.

Then you had to jump "out" without getting hit by the rope.

These are some we sang while skipping rope.

A my name is Alice
And my husband's name is Arthur,
We come from Alabama,
Where we sell artichokes.
B my name is Barney
And my wife's name is Bridget,
We come from Brooklyn,
Where we sell bicycles.
C my name is _________
And my husband's name is ___________
We come from __________
Where we sell ___________.

Cookies, candy in the dish;
How many pieces do you wish?
1, 2, 3, 4, . . . . .

Lady, lady, touch the ground,
Lady, lady, turn around.
Turn to the east, and turn to the west,
And choose the one you like the best.

Not Last Night but the night before.
Twenty-four robbers came knocking at my door,
They called me out for the world to see,
And this is what they said to me--
'Spanish dancer turn around,
Spanish dancer touch the ground,
Spanish dancer do the kicks,
Spanish dancer do the splits!'
Spanish dancer, do the split.
Spanish dancer, give a kick.
Spanish dancer, turn around.
Spanish dancer, get out of town.

Spanish dancer, do the splits,
Spanish dancer, do high kicks.
Spanish dancer, clicks a shoe,
Spanish dancer, chooses YOU!

That's right! I forgot about that part!

We did the same (clapping, jumping, or Lemon-twisting), but split off...

I remember this one. There was another one that was long with multiply parts. I forget the song but I think it starts out with naming the months of the year & you jump out on the month of your birthday, then the date, 1-31, I forget the other parts to it.

Ok, I just googled jump rope songs & the last one I mentioned with the months was this:
All in together girls,
This is very fine weather girls,
January, February, March, etc.

There's another one listed that's similar to what we did:
Rich man, poor man, beggar man, theif, doctor, lawyer, indian chief.

How about Mi crooked letter, crooked letter, i, crooked letter, crooked letter, i, hunchback, hunchback, i.

When you jumped with two people turning the rope, did you start with:

E vee
I vee
OOOOO ver

Oh and did you do the dance where everyone circled around you and sang,
"We went to the market, we went to the fair, we saw a senorita with a flower in her hair. Shake it senorita, shake it all you can, all the boys are watching you so do the best you can, oh rumble to the bottom, rumble to the top, spin around, spin around, till you make a stop. S-T-O-P spells STOP.

:rotfl2: OK, I just re-read that & I hope someone remembers that one, or else I just sound insane!

We had a slightly different verse in there

Miss Lucy had a steamboat
The steamboat had a bell
Miss Lucy went to heaven
and the steamboat went to
Hello operator
Give me number 9
The boys are in the bathroom
zipping up there
flies are in the city
the bees are in the park
the boys and girls are kissing
in the d-a-r -k, d-a-r-k, d-a-r-k
Dark, dark, dark
