July or September?

We're currently planning a trip for July... I'm already bouncing out of my seat with excitement to go.

BUT DH and I realized that we also have the opportunity to go in September on my step-daughters first school break (year round school)... that will also be during her 6th birthday.

I have never been to Disney in off season - I always went with my dad when I visited for the summer and Spring break as a kid.

So - Is it worth the wait to go in September? Are the lines a lot shorter? What is the difference between wait times? Are the hotels much cheaper in September as opposed to July?

I don't want to wait extra time... but now I'm considering changing the dates because of the benefits I've heard of going in off season.

I love the off season, especially when travelling with children!

Early September is the best. The most popular rides can have lines as short as 15 minutes and other rides are walk ons. You do have to check to see what is closed for refurb but as you are able to get through so much more in one day it can be worth missing out on one or two attractions.

Make sure you include at least one weekend cause fireworks etc are often not on on the week days during the off season.

the lines shorter in september hours are though too weather was pretty good compared to june or july after water rides its cold haunted mansion and space mountain as well as a few others were closed do to a halloween change. I think the hotels around the same price. the best part was shorter lines. having a birthday there was really cool though.

We're going in september for DD's 5th b-day. I am looking forward to a trip in warm weather (and smaller crowds) as our last trip was at Xmas time.

With 3 young kids, I am sure you would enjoy and benefit from fewer people and shorter park hours (let those kiddos sleep in a bit!)

forgot to add, also, that the entertainment rates are available for our dates and we have the Hojo kids suite for $99/night +tax. My girls will love the water play area!

Maybe. yes, A bunch to somewhat. Yes.

Of course if you go in Setpember around Labor Day this will cancel out all of the benefits of going in September. If you go later in that short week you risk attraction rehabs.

If you wait until mid September, you gain some crowds but also HM and Space will be open in Halloween Style and the park will be decorated as well.

Though this coming September may be very tricky. I think Halloween has the possibility of being started early on the 9th instead of waiting until the 16th. We should know in a couple months when they announce the party weekends if the season is being stretched because of solid demand last year.

I'd take Sept over July anytime, It's still hot and there is usually always less people. My DD's Bday is also in Sept so we go every year around the 18th.

My Step-Daughter's birthday is Sept. 21st so we were thinking of going the 18th-22nd. What is the average wait time to get on rides in Sept? I know peak season it's like 30-60 minutes normally.

We went the 18th- 23rd and HM and SM were both closed to get ready for Halloween. Others were closed too, but those two were ones I really wanted her to try out.

It wasn't bad at all except the favorite rides.. PP stayed typically at 45 minutes as did some of FL like Dumbo, Alice, and Toads.

We did all those during MM but only did those that one day mainly becuase of long waits..

But after this promo they usually have the 3 for 5 deal.. so that may save you money. HTH

It's a tough call. I really like the off-season, and would rather go when it is cooler in November--it is harshly hot in July. However, there will be more attractions closed, and fewer shows running. The lines, however, will be MUCH shorter. For a child turning 6, I would go for September myself, and have a birthday dinner at Goofy's Kitchen.

It's a really hard decision, but DH and I were just discussing it and we're leaning to September more now actually instead of July.

Not my favorite idea....but Iguess il have to deal with it. :/ but you will all have a blast and there are probably more pros then cons about a september visit. Brooke will be excited.

Just looked at last years calender.. her first break was the last week in September 25th- October 17th. So if they keep it the same those dates won't work.

Oh.. I just talked to a friend and his GF's dad is a parapalegic and in a wheel chair and he lives by DL and when she goes to DL with him they never have to really wait it line because of it, the go right to the front. So whenever you go.. Sept or July or whenever.. thats a good thing to know :)

Oh my goodness, I would never NOT go on an off season. There are virtually zero line ups, and the park is not congested at all! gives way more room for shows as well, and you enjoy it a lot more-makes it a lot less stressful. More parking as well and you get better deals with hotels as well. The only downside, the parks do close earlier in the day.

Yea, that is a downside... but with three young children earlier closing won't be so bad. The kids will be turning 6 at DL, almost 4, and newly 2.

You're right, I just called and spoke to Renee Cortez again and she said the proposed first break is September 24th and returning to school October 10th. Still not sure on what dates we'll do though.

An advantage to doing it then would be the Halloween change. We didn't see the whole park transfered over just bits of the progress. HM and SM are the two I know of that are completely redone for Halloween, plus all the characters are in different outfits and the decor is way different. So it would be like a new experience for Brooke because it would be so different.

BUT the busiest day at the park was the last day we were there and it was two days before Halloween time started. So you will probably get added crowds but not as bad as July.

Call.. not sure who would be the best on this one.. and ask about the wheelchair thing. If your main concerns are lines and stuff like that and you don't have to wait in any.. that may help choose when to go. :goodvibes

Well I called a few weeks ago and was told that they basically try to keep the wait times as even as possible for the guests. I remember as a kid though thinking that people in wheel chairs never had to wait in lines... so idk :confused3
I don't know if I want to go any later in the year than we were thinking so now I'm leaning back to July. idk.. I'm indecisive... I'll make up my mind before May.

LOL... Now that I think about it.. I would think that would be the thing to say on the phone.. Because really.. So many dishonest people would be like.. I'll just rent a wheelchair and then not have to wait. IDK.. maybe start a post strictly about wheelchairs and keep bumping till you get an answer.. There are CM on here so they may know too.
