July 9th 2005 - West Coast Cruise.

Hey everyone,
I am about three pages behind in my reading here..... just had to pass on a little tidbit (since he was soooooo good about doing the same) .....

:cheer2: :cheer2: WE HAD A MAJOR BIRTHDAY TODAY!!!!!! SOMEONE :confused3 TURNED LESS THAN 45 BUT OLDER THAN 35 ......hmmm, let's see I just had my b-day. timmy is 11 and Cassie is 6 .... that means :rolleyes1

Hey! How's the emailing between kids going ? Time to start ramping it up! Should Chris add the kids' names and ages to his famous spreadsheet (when he recovers from all the celebrating)? Just an idea.....

Have a fantastic weekend everyone. Forecast for San Diego: :worship: :sunny: Yahoo!

How do the excursions work on Disney? Do they have a prearranged place to meet on the ship? Also, does anyone know the chances of arranging excursions after we board if we decide to go on one. We did this on a Carnival cruise and didn't have a problem even though the ship was filled to capacity. I guess it depends on the excursion, but just wondering if anyone has done this before. I just don't know if I can decide.

Happy Birthday Chris! Having already reached that milestone myself -- my body did start to fall apart -- but then it spurred me to start taking better care of myself! I am in better shape now then I was 10 years ago (oh wait I was pregnant -- of course I am in better shape!) or even 20 -- I know I weigh less!! :hourglass

As for the excursions -- you can book 90 days out -- April 10 for us -- and after you have fully paid. The popular ones and popular times go fast but others can be booked on the ship -- butthe lines for this are long. You have until two days before the cruise to change your mind. The last time I couldn't get one of the excursions I wanted, but I kept calling and someone canceled and I received their spot. They don't keep a wait list -- I asked! The excursions usually gather in the third floor lounge or Studio Sea. They take your tickets (which will be in your cabin on embarkation day) and issue you a sticker to match the guides sign. You then are escorted out of the ship to the transportation. The guide rides with you and will go over all important information, and will give instructions for return to the ship. Sometimes the guide will go with you on the excursions, sometimes they just meet you afterwards to ensure you get a ride back to the ship. The guides are part of the cruise staff so you are taken care of.

Hope this helps -- Sheryl

Happy Birthday, Chris! And...we can officially do the double digit dance too! Only 99 days to go!      Woohoo!!!

Happy Friday! :cool1:
Question for all the happy horse people: if you haven't ridden in a long time (or ever) are you concerned at all about being sore afterwards? Cassie just went riding and loved it, but I'm concerned about going and then walking funny  for the rest of the cruise. Thoughts?

Sheryl--thanks for all the great information.

Kim--my counter isn't working either.

Trying to think up an April Fool's trick to play on the kids--any ideas?

Karen,
You could always use the "it's been cancelled" tried & true trick:

"Kids, we got some very bad news today. Disney sent us a letter telling us that they are cancelling all West Coast cruises for this year, so we won't be able to go until next year."

Cruel, huh??

Actually, I was going to use that one on you all! I was going to tell you my TA called and said the Port of LA won't let them use their port after all. I didn't want you all to kill me, though. Or for you to poison my drink when I got on board. ;)

Karen

Thanks for all of the birthday wishes, everyone!! I actually don't have any problem with hitting the big 4-0.

Now, ages aside, I found it interesting reading a few posts back where several of the ladies posted the weights of their husbands. Can you imagine what the reaction would have been if the husbands did the same?? :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: We'd be sleeping in the arctic tundra for a year!!!

Chris

You're absolutely right, Chris. However, in my defense (or my husband's), he was a power lifter when he was younger and still can lift quite a bit for a 40 year old. A lot of it's muscle, although I don't think muscles stick out quite that much around the stomach area :rotfl: . Thankfully, DH doesn't read these or I'd be in big trouble.

Yes, I am actually a little worried about this since I've been sore after the few times I have gone. But some people have asked about it on cruisecritic and nobody who has gone was really sore. I think the actual riding time is short enough that it's not too bad. At least I hope.

Happy Birthday Chris!

Well happy birthday Chris!! A day late and a dollar short.... hope it was a fabulous day! And welcome to the 40+ Club. Tell me that you celebrated with a glass of fine wine. :teeth:

Actually, if you re-read my post, you'll note that I only indicated that he exceeded the maximum weight for hire-a-horse types. I don't want to have to sleep in the dog house. :goodvibes

Happy (late) birthday, Chris. :bday:

Hi!
I am totally new to these boards. We are cruising 7/9 too. I would love to be involved in the conversations but I am not sure what I am expected to do??? I see you live in Rancho, I live in Heritage in Fontana so we are neighbors. Thanks for letting me jump in.

Welcome, swcruiser!!!! I'm the one who lives in Rancho Cucamonga. I have a good friend who lives in Heritage, and I'm a teacher in Fontana...Sierra Lakes Elementary. Howdy, neighbor!!! You said "we" are cruising on 7/9...who's in your party?

Kim :flower:

swcruiser...you're not "expected" to do anything...just join in the conversation. Help keep the post count up...we want to get to 90 pages...if we do, Chris buys us each a drink at the party in his suite!!

Kim :flower:

oh, and you must agree to immediately share any and all information that you gather from any and all sources about ANY aspect of ANY West Coast Disney cruise!!! There are many obsessive compulsive planners around here who are just starving for information!!!! I'm at the top of that list!!!

Kim :flower:

I'm just getting back on the boards too -- my MIL is still visiting and it's hard to find time to myself.

AND, I'm still living in "tile flooring limbo" for going on almost 2 weeks now! It better look beautiful when they're done -- they just had to rip out the tile they installed in the kitchen/sunroom because it was WRONG!! :sad2:

Anyway,

HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY, CHRIS! Oh, I remember when Stu and I turned 40, although, that was 13 years ago for us! Our more recent memory would have to have been the big 5-0! But, we are still young at heart and that's what counts.

Also, welcome to you, SWCRUISER -- welcome "aboard"!

I have a question for you CA people -- our DD Carly and her friend, Alexis, don't want to do the Disneyland thing when we're there a few days before the cruise -- they want to go to the beach. We are not renting a car, so what beach would be the nicest and closest to Disneyland and what is the best mode of transportation to get them there? Any suggestions would be really helpful.

July is "just around the corner"....

Val
