USA Today had an article about the new excursion in St Petersburg. It looks amazing but I'm sure it will cost an arm & a leg. They are having a Princess Royal Ball at Catherine's Palace (or something like that? of course I lost the link  I read it on my iTouch) after it closes to the general public. All the Princesses will be there (my daughter will LOVE this!!) and they will have period costumes doing "song & dance". Who wants to start placing bets on the price per person? ;)

Stimpy - is this what you're referring to?

Perhaps only Disney could pull off something like this.

The entertainment giant Monday announced it had arranged exclusive access to the famed Catherine Palace in St. Petersburg, Russia to hold a series of Royal Balls for passengers on upcoming Disney Cruise Line voyages.

And, yes, Cinderella will be on hand.

The unusual private functions at the historic summer residence of Russia's imperial family, which will take place in the evenings after the palace closes to tourists, will include live musicians and "royal courtiers" in period costumes and powdered wigs who will lead passengers in song and dance, the company says.

Some cruise lines have offered special events at the palace before, but never one quite like this. Disney princesses such as Cinderella, Snow White and Belle will arrive at the palace by horse-drawn carriages to lead the for-a-charge event, which will take place in the palace's gilded Grand Ballroom.

The exclusive-to-Disney offering is just one of several unusual family-friendly shore excursions the line announced Monday as it prepares to expand its sailings in Europe.

During port calls in Tunis (a stop on Disney's new Mediterranean cruises), the line will offer families the option of taking part in a "treasure hunt" that requires stops at several sites to find clues. Passengers will visit a traditional Tunisian house, learn about the origin of the area from a local storyteller, receive a hand-painted henna tattoo, bargain with local merchants for a keepsake water vessel, sip freshly prepared mint tea and get their name written in Arabic as a souvenir, the line says.

On other excursions, in another unusual new twist, Disney will have youth counselors from the ship on hand to direct special activities for children.

During a tour of Florence, for example, after seeing the city highlights, children break off with ship counselors to spend an hour creating a traditional Italian fresco painting while their parents spend more time touring the historic Palazzo Vecchio.

Disney has not yet released prices for the new excursions.

We're not traveling with our kids this time. It will be my DH and BF. We are staying and the chancery 2 day pre and 1 day post. We were able to get them room all with points. We are heading to Dover the day before and staying at the Radisson. Since we are traveling without kids, maybe we can get together and do something in London.

Sounds good to me! :thumbsup2

Hey - it's great to see some activity - it's seven months from today that we sail!

Deb - we're going to be at the Renaissance Chauncery a few days before (arriving on the 3rd) - we have our flights and hotel booked through DCL after going back and forth about doing it on our own, etc. If it ws just me and Gary, we would be more likely to do it on our own, but with four (and desiring to have just one hotel room), we found this was the only way to get the room that way. It just relieves some travel stress for us by letting DCL take care of it (so that's our Christmas gift to each other this year - LOL).

Anyway, I can't believe it's only seven months - it seemed like it would never get to this point!

I absolutely cannot wait to see you and the boys again!!! :)

Deb - same with us! We still talk about our trip and hanging out with you. Zachary is doing advanced work as a 6th grader and Nathan is in 8th grade - they've both had projects and I have told them several times "that's a good question for Google." :) This is a really busy school year for both kids and we will be so ready for a summer vacation!

Not sure when they will release tours, but soon, I hope! We just got something in the mail from DCL today thanking us for our business, and telling us that they are giving us a $100 shipboard credit for each person in our party. It was a very nice surprise!

Lucky you! I wonder if we'll get one especially since we booked through Dreams...

Oh on a side note, we went and saw A princess and a Frog this weekend. Cute movie for a little kid. Anyways.. the previews were showing the new Toy Story Movie. It comes out June 18th so, I'm sure they will be showing it on the cruise. I can't wait...

We booked through Disney Vacation Club, as we used points for some of us. I'm pretty sure that DCL is trying to entice people not to cancel. I just looked on their website, and there seems to be plenty of staterooms still not filled.

Also looking forward to the Toy Story movie!

We booked through a TA and got the notice in today's mail, too, about the $100 per person - so woo-hoo - that's $400 for us plus our onboard credit we already had.

We also saw Princess and the Frog and loved it - and said the same thing about being able to see Toy Story 3 onboard the Magic. So between that, all the ports, and the new Villians show, there are lots of things to look forward to about this trip!
