July 5th Dream

I have been trying to figure out if the Dream is on an extended cruise or in dry dock? It has not checked in online (to a cruise ship tracking site) since June 2. Anyone know?

Yea!!! Me too! I bought a new rolling duffle bag to bring along a few drinks on board (sodas, water and a few "others"). Yes, I know we have free sodas up on deck, but I like to have a nice cold Mtn. Dew in lieu of coffee first thing in the morning! We are getting so excited and have so much to do...it is finally approaching fast!

Us too! Can't wait to pack it full of fun for the cruise!!! Nice way to break it in, right!?!?!

Just cancelled Country Inn & Suites & booked the Poly for the 3rd & 4th.

Must be some kind of sickness - but we should have a good view of the fireworks :).

Just saw targetted launch for the shuttle on the 10th!!!

where did you see this date? The NASA site that I check is still showing July 8th @ 11:26 a.m. as the target date.

and as much as I'd love to see a launch, I really don't want to get tied up in a traffic nightmare getting off the ship and on my way to WDW!

Hi everyone! Back from visiting my daughter! You missed me so much, right? :lmao:

Shuttle launch - if it is on the 10th, would we have a lot of traffic? I would assume the traffic would be going to Kennedy, whereas we will be leaving?:sad1: If there is a launch on the 10th, it would be nice to have it really early so we could watch it form the ship, so I am not torn between stopping to see the launch or going to get my dog from the kennel. We do have a long drive to our hotel rest in Nashville that night, so it would be best for us to get on the road and not watch the launch. Oh well, no sense wondering about it yet!

Dylcal, how is your Dad's recovery? Everything going well, letting you concentrate on the upcoming cruise and not worry too much? I hope so!

Echoing Tequilamamacita, are we planning to meet still? Sure, we have the deck 7 cool people group :thumbsup2, but what about the rest of you? Were we still planning on meeting at the far end of the family beach and setting up camp there? Near where the cabanas are so the families there can join in and put faces to names? If so, did we decide on some sort of a marker to identify ourselves?

I am so looking forward to this week being over so I can concentrate on cruise stuff! This past week, I arrived home on Tuesday night from visiting my daughter, found out the renters of my mom's home need to move in a week earlier (Friday!!!), spent Wednesday and Thursday cleaning out getting rid of the rest of the stuff in my mom's house, took mom to hospital for X-rays and EKG for her knee replacement surgery, met with nurse for more information for mom about her surgery, and on Monday back to hospital for blood type and cross. Finally this Tuesday, surgery.

Yesterday I took my mom to the mall because she felt she did not have the proper undergarments and pajamas for her hospital and rehab stay. Lost her at the mall because she wandered off! Looked for her for over an hour, had mall security looking for her, too. Turns out she got confused and left the store, walking around the mall with her cane. She won't admit she has Alzheimer's but at this point I don't see how she can not realize it, and I told her she will no longer be walking away from me when we are out somewhere.

I was so worried she left the mall and I was going to be on the news for neglect of an elderly mother! But what really bothered me was acting like the parent to my mom, and I really dislike having this role. I hate telling her what she is and is not allowed to do, but I have to keep her safe. Once she has her surgery, and then is off to rehab, I won't have to watch over her for a few weeks, and I am so looking forward to that. I will still visit her every day, that is just what is expected in my family, but her moment-to-moment care is out of my hands. Oh I am so looking forward to caring for only my children and husband again!

I need new luggage! I almost bought some Mickey luggage while at Disney visiting my daughter, but then reality hit that I have lots of old luggage in the basement and I won't be flying again for a long time, so I don't really NEED new luggage that will hold up well on a plane. I don't like being practical! Of course, there are still two weeks before our trip, who knows what I might see if I go out shopping.

Now I need to go do laundry. Which reminds me, I need to find out where the laundry rooms are on the Dream. Anyone know? Not that I love doing laundry, but with the dog's kennel taking up lots of space in the van, we are trying to keep our clothing at a minimum, so I will be doing laundry. So glad I am staying at our AKV, at least I will have a washer and dryer for the first part of our vacation! It's the little things in life that bring me joy!

See you all soon!

Luvavacation -- Thanks for asking about Dad! He is doing well He is eating and moving more each day. He even has been up and down the stairs in my house (he needs his computer fix!:rotfl:). He finds out on the 23rd whether he can go home! He so wants to do that.

Good luck to your Mom and I will be thinking of you on Tuesday! I know what you mean about taking care of your parents. I found stuff coming out of my mouth that he would say to me when I was young:scared1:. I didn't know that I would turn into him when I got older! He probably wishes now he had been nicer!:rotfl2:

We will be at the Poly as well on the 3rd and 4th so we will probably see you on the Beach for the fireworks! Can't wait!

So looking forward to both the Poly & even more the Dream! Finally getting close.

We are DVC owners and have used all our points for an upcoming Christmas - New Year's trip in a 2BR-savanna view at Kidani. Family will be an adjoining unit.

We ordered our DVC discounted APs yesterday before the price went up today and got a good AP rate at the Poly. We haven't stayed there in 17 years - since before kids. Should be a nice way to rest up before the cruise. Not planning on activating our APs until December.

I think meeting on the family beach down near the cabanas would be a great place to hang. It would give all those with the cabanas a chance to come hang too! I think the new bar is called the Sand Bar, so anywhere on the beach in that area.

Hanging a (Lime) green ribbon or bow on your chair or bag would let others know who we are. In fact, that would work for the whole cruise, lol.

I can't wait to meet y'all, so I know I'll be there.

Getting Close!

I think it is the 2nd stop now. I'm not sure since I haven't been to the "new and improved" Castaway Cay.

I'll post the question on the main cruise board, and see what we can find out.

Back when I was planning what to do before our cruise, I did do some research as to what was available near the port for 4th of July, and found a website for Cocoa Beach that had lots of information with things to do on 4th of July.

Here is the website address - http://www.cityofcocoabeach.com/FlashHomePages/visitors_home.html

From this page, go to Visitors, then on the left go to Attractions, then in the middle scroll down to Brevard Cultural Activities, then click Calendar in the purple heading.

I hope this helps!

Thanks for this information. Is anyone staying at the Radison at the Port?
I'm not sure how to get from the hotel to the attractions. Any suggestions?
I've been quiet most of the planning, but love reading what everyone says.
Thanks for all the great tips.
Now I'm really getting excited!

We are staying at the port as well and I sent a message to Shirley (the gift basket lady) asking her - she suggested contacting the hotel manager where we were staying. I did that - we are staying at CI & S - but was only told that there would be a lot of activities, etc. - nothing def. about the fireworks. If someone is staying somewhere else, maybe you can contact your hotel manager and see if you get any results. If you do, please share with the rest of us!!!

I'm staying at the Radison Resort at the Port. When I called, they didn't know of anything. Are there any restaurants within walking distance from the CI&S?

we are staying there the night before, but we have a small rental car and it will only hold 5. Maybe call the hotel and see if they offer a shuttle?

We'll be at the Country Inn & Suites; does anyone know if we'll be able to see the Cocoa Beach fireworks from there?

We plan to make a grocery stop en route from the airport (via car service) and pick up something for supper / snacks/ drinks there to eat at the hotel since we won't have a car to get to a restaurant that night.
