Yay to everyone that has found a cruise wardrobe! I am still hopeful that I will lose 50 pounds and then I shall also go out and buy cruise clothing! After all, every female needs some nice new things for a cruise, right?
Sadly, I have been trying to lose those 50 pounds for the last 6 months, but apparently the fat is very happy right where it is and does not wish to leave me. Just a warning to all, I shall be wearing shorts and tank tops no matter what, because fat jiggly me is still going to be preferable to covered up sweaty me.
Darn, there is still a cabana left!!! Oh wait, it is on Serenity Bay. Ok, that makes the decision to say "no" easy. Now if it was on the family beach, I might be looking to sell some old gold for one day of pampering!
Or I could sell the old gold and buy me something lovely on the ship or in Nassau. Decisions, decisions. Price of gas these days though, I think that gold will be best used to fill my gas tank!
Stitchy, glad you did get the excursions you wanted. It really will be a great birthday for your daughter. My eldest turned 11 on our first
Disney cruise, and at the end of that day, she turned to me and told me it was the best birthday she had ever had. I think our servers (whom she had grown quite fond of and loved how they made her feel so very special) singing to her and making her feel like a princess that day really contributed! I hope the same happens for your daughter!
Tequilamamacita - I don't know if I have ever seen wine at the Orlando airport other than at a bar. I know the buses won't stop at a grocery store. I suppose you could always grab a cab and go to the nearest convenience or grocery, then go back to the airport and load up into the buses. I have never taken Disney transportation though, so I don't know if you can take other buses to the port or not, or you have to take the one closest to your flight time? We have always just taken a limo and done a grocery run before arrival at our destination.
Have you thought of maybe purchasing one of those pouches that people fill with alcohol and then pack into their luggage? You wouldn't have to worry about glass breaking in your bag, they seem pretty sturdy, and then you would have wine without having to stop somewhere before the ship. For the life of me, I can't remember what they are called though! Hopefully someone here knows?
As to Nassau with a 3 year old - my youngest was 6 when we first went to Nassau, so a little bit older, but definitely not adventurous at all so we did not book any excursions. What we did was walk around town, go to the government building (forgot the name, ugh old age!), marvelled at the guards' uniforms, looked at the flowers, bought an ice cream in town, pretty much just experienced being in a foreign country!
Some people say to avoid Nassau and stay on the ship, but I think it is important for children to see the differences in the world, and realize not everyone lives like we do in America. Sure, the hawkers on the street can get irritating, but just walk with purpose and keep saying, "no, thank you" to their queries. Or, if you speak another language, answer them in that language, and they will leave you alone. I tell you, odds are no Bahamiam speaks Hungarian, so that is my language of choice when I wish to be left alone!
Others have enjoyed Ardastra Gardens. I have never been, but we might go this time. There is also the Pirate Museum, though I believe that might be kind of scary for a little one.
Or you can always go to the Hilton, buy a day pass, and just sit on the beach. Of course, we do have two beach days already on
Castaway Cay, and I love that island because it is "Disney safe", but there is something to be said for a non-Disneyfied beach.
Good luck finding something to do with the little one! Even if all you end up doing is walking around the dock and looking at fish in the water, just spending time together without the daily stresses of life back home is often a perfect thing to do!
