So what kind of shore excursions are folks picking so far? We are actually going light on excursions and plan to do hop on hop off bus in Athens as they have pick up by the port. Also signed up for Historic Olympia and Mercouri Winery and Turkish Villages and Country Side with Lunch. Other ports will likely explore on our own. Nice to be in the double digits in the countdown!

We are joining you on this cruise. It seems we're spending a bunch for excursions, but some are just beach transfers. Seems best to do this with DCL in unfamiliar countries -- but ouch! expensive!

Rick Steve's med guide had great guidance on which cities he recommends you do a tour and which it's okay to do on your own. We kind of used that guidance. We have done the Hop On Off bus in Rome, Dublin and London and have been pleased with service. We will just be alert like any other places to pick pockets, etc.

Which one? we booked the 6/29 11-night Norway/Iceland. Are you on that one or one of the ones before it? It is nearly sold out already. Crazy

Ours will be somewhere between 15-29. We will split when we get to30. Currently at 23. Deadline is in May to sign up - see previous post. We won't let it get out of hand size wise!

You can also get the ship's number in case you get lost, delayed, etc and they won't leave without you. Might cost money for a cell phone but you can purchase a VodoFone before you leave and put their number in it. For emergencies that is, if that would make you more comfortable. Guided tours are good too. That way you are with other DCL'ers and with a tour guide. I would do it in a heart beat and just be aware of your surroundings, locking your room door at night with the extra locks and being aware of who is at your door as if you were in a hotel. We have never had any problems on DCL or with shore excursions. You can also look for other single mom's going and plan outings if that makes you comfortable, but then you might run into a scheduling issue and feeling pressured to do something you aren't interested in for the sake of not being alone with your daughter. You will be fine and the cruise line is very good about safety. You may even talk to the customer service folks when you leave the ship and where you are going if you aren't taking a DCL excursion.
