July 5, 2011 - Mickey's WONDERful Alaskan Adventure

Well, we're no stranger to cruising, that's for sure. :rotfl2: But I have to admit I had no idea that there was an online community this large for DCL! Thanks for the welcome.

So we're finishing our packing up now, and we're planning on doing the helicopter ride/dogsledding excursion on top of Mendenhall Glacier. Anyone know how cold that part of the trip is supposed to be? Like winter coats weather or can we get by in warm jackets? :confused3

I'm not bringing my uber-winter gear...I'm packing very light long underwear (Wintersilks), then a T-shirt over cargo pants, a jean jacket or fleece jacket, and then a rain jacket or windbreaker. I'm stowing a travel umbrella in my backpack. I think this will suffice for any glacial activity. The weather is prone to change at any time and you will probably experience all types of weather in a single day.

It would be helpful to me to have an overview of the group, especially as I'm popping into it late. I hope you don't mind the compilation, and, if you care to add anything, that would be great!

I have my last interview today! :woohoo: An unintended result of interviewing the week before our cruise: due to my nervousness and lack of eating I've actually lost weight! :dance3: I love that I'm going into the cruise a few pounds lighter - makes me feel less guilty about eating on the ship :yay:

Safe travels to everyone leaving this weekend. We arrive on Monday

Good luck with your interview, Meg!

My son, Michael is headed your way for film camp the first two weeks of August. I'm meeting him August 13th for a week at Disneyland! (We're staying at Paradise Pier) You're so lucky you can go there all the time...

Last day of work and then I'm on vacation. Safe travels everyone! Hope to see you around the ship.

Me too! Just printed out our bording passes for tomorrow. STILL working on FE stuff. Actually have one of my sons helping today as I'm the only one who has to work today!

Which is why I just paid luggage fees for 4 bags :rotfl: Haven't packed an umbrella. Wonder if I need to weigh my bags.... :goodvibes

Hope the interviews went well! Good for you going into the cruise a bit slimmer. Bet you won't have that trouble in a week! :thumbsup2

Teresa, here we go with that name Walt again - 2 Walts, both celebrating 24th anniversaries - what are the chances?

Coming down the home stretch, Walt just left for his last day (or night I should say) of work, and I've only got a couple things to iron. Tomorrow, we put everything in the suitcases, do 1 last load of clothes, weigh the bags and get to bed early so we can get up at 2:00 am for our flight to Vancouver. Did I forget to add we also have a family picnic in there somewhere also? It's going to be a crazy day, but it's finally here! Looking forward to meeting everyone on Tuesday!

That is so cool!! Two Walts...what are the chances, indeed?

Have a great flight, Sue. See you on board The Wonder!

It will be really freaky if your anniversary is 7/11! Walt isn't a common name that's for sure. You sound like me Sue. I'm just about to leave the office and then will be throwing in my cruise casual clothing (i.e. work clothes) to finish our packing. You have a family picnic too?? :scared1: I plan to sleep on the plane tomorrow!

We are planning to meet around the family pool at 3:30? We'll have to see how my men folk are doing. ;)

Save travels!

I don't know how to do a multi-quote reply, so I'll say thank you to all of you for your good thoughts and pixie dust for my interviews. I got a job!!!! I'll be teaching 5th or 6th grade at a school close to home :woohoo: Now I can relax and celebrate on the cruise :dance3:

Congratulations Meg! Now you can take a deep breath, and really enjoy your cruise! That's a great age group, I just completed my 1st year in 5th (after 26 years as librarian/technology) and loved it. It was my best year yet! You'll love it!

Safe travels everyone! Look out Wonder, here we come!

You've been married WAY longer than we have

:rotfl::rotfl:

The long-range forecast (for our trip, not your marriage) is COLD....Brrrrrr!!!

:cold::cold: Hope I packed warm enough! Walt's a little disappointed, we had to leave out our pirate outfits, just couldn't get them in without paying for another bag. Guess we'll just have to take another cruise so we can use them!

Well, bags are packed, house is clean, laundry is done, carry on is ready with documents and snacks. All that's left to do is wait for Walt to pack the camera stuff, :scared1: go to the family picnic, and then come home for 1 short night's sleep. :jumping1:
See you all on the ship, safe travels!
Sue

Greetings from warm and sunny Vancouver. Out heaviest bag was 3 pounds under weight. We are exhausted from our travels and just walked to the water for a bite to eat. Tomorrow Stanley Park and the aquarium. We are at the St. Regis hotel and it's a nice little boutique hotel.

Sue, our 25th is next summer and I think another cruise is warranted! See you in a few days!
Teresa
