People have told me recently that WDW may not be the safest place in the country to be on an American holiday. I hadn't really thought about it. Should we be concerned? Security has been and will be tight at the parks and I could come up with 100s of better "targets" for terrorists.

I'd hate to change my plans and life in case of terrorism. After all, that's what they want you to do!

I think Disney is extremely security conscious and will be even more vigilant than usual on July 4th. We will be there.

You have the right attitude. Definitely don't change your plans for terrorists. From all I've heard, Disney does have all their ducks (including Donald) in a row when it comes to security. We may not notice the security measures, but they are certainly in place. Go have fun and celebrate the 4th with the best fireworks in the country.:D

I'll be honest here...I wouldn't cancel my trip, but I'd probably not choose MK for the 4th (nor would I any other year, the place will be packed). If anything ever happens at WDW, they'll make it at the most symbolic park.

I will be on Main Street, USA on July 4, and if terrorists want to blow it up, then at least I will die happy. Come on people, we have to stand strong for our freedom. Even avoiding a particular theme park due to terror concerns is still letting them win.

We were at WDW July 4 - 11 last year and we were perfectly safe! We even flew on July 4th to get to WDW . . .all went smooth.

Please don't let the high terror alert alter your plans. We had a great time and we are looking forward to our June 20th trip this year . . .I will not cancel my plans . . .

I'll be at WDW on the 4th. There is no way I will let terrorist stop me from doing what I want to do.

I'm a firm believer that if it's your time to go you're going. Doesn't matter what happens, if it's not your time you will live(might be a little worse for wear) but you will live.

Now on the other hand I don't think I will be at the Magic Kingdom on the 4th not because of fear but I because I can see me trying to get through the crowd in my ECV. Now wouldn't that be a pretty site :)

I'm 16 and living in a high risk area of London. At first with all the terrorist warnings I was scared to death. And somedays I still am, hearing the news before I go out and knowing I need to go underground for ages...then into tall buildings etc.

But one thing I know is I trust Disney. I do not trust terrorists obv and I doubt anyone will ever know where they'll next strike..but I'd much rather leave this world in the happiest place and shaking Mickeys hand than be at home feeling worried and sickened by the news

I really hope you continue your holiday and have a magical time :D

We will also be there on the 4th. I'm not going to let anything keep me from the happy place in the world. Yes, we'll be more aware of whats going on around us. But no it want keep us away from Disney.:D :D

We'll be there also, at Epcot! I can't wait! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

We were there over President's Day weekend )another American holiday) when we were also in a code orange and the media was advising people to buy masking tape and plastic. I did have my concerns but never thought twice about canceling. Once I got there quite honestly my worries disappeared.

Upon returning I read some info about WDW security on mousesavers.com. Wish I would have read it prior to my concerns, I really would have felt much better if I read it first;)
Don't worry and have a great time!!

jwfla422, where did you find security info on mousesavers? I WILL NOT cancel my trip, but my Mom freaks over every little thing- It may help her feel better.

Thanks for the replies everyone. We've decided that we will NOT change our plans due to the hightened alert.

I will be at MK on the 4th. I saw a commercial on tv about us changing, they show a row of houses without flags and say something to the effect that they wanted 911 to effect Americans and they did and then they show the houses in a row all with American flags handing outside of the houses. I will be there wearing a lot of red, white and blue. GOD BLESS AMERICA! (and to all those who are not religious, I hope I did not offend you.)

I'll be in WDW on July 4th, the only thing I am undecided on is which park to go to.

i I'm 15 and my family will be at WDW july 1-4 then to the DCL july 5... and we are gonna go no matter what! We will prolly go to MGM during the day and go bac to our hotel, GF, and watch the MK fireworks from the beach.
I am going to WDW on thurs with my school band. It has already been canceled once this year cuz of the terrror threat. We were supposed to go March 20, which was when Bush issued the 48 hr thing for Saddam and the 48 hrs ended wen we were supposed to take off. they cancelled 2 days b4 we were supposed to leave. And even tho there is a heightened terror warning, the school board has decided to let us go unless there is an attack on our soil. I am not worried at all for this trip or my trip on the 4th!

I arrived in orlando the day the war started and after a few days, i was no so glad to be at WDW!! Have a few hours where I didn't hear about what was gong on in the world!!

WAs so glad when the networks went back to regular programming!!

We will be there on the 4th also. I never even considered changing our plans. Let's all go and have a great time. Look for the green ribbons (and on the 4th ours will be red, white and blue). Give a little  if you see us.
