July 30, 2010 Mickey's Adventures England to Espana Cruise

I had to move staterooms between the PC cruise and the special 5 night cruise, and honestly, it was easy. If my TA is not able to find our room for the 11 night Med following this one, we will have to move for that. I wouldn't worry too much about the moving -- our stateroom attendant did most of the work, including taking everything out of the closet on hangers and just re-hanging in the next cabin.

Yeah now if i could get the State Room Attendent to pay for the 3rd cruise!:rotfl:

Or how to arrange my chores while Im gone for over a month!

Dont get me wrong DW is all for it ! No cooking, cleaning & built in babysitter!:cool1: :lmao:

Well, the first two would be issues even if you were staying in the same stateroom . . . ;)

My take on these three cruises is that they are so unique and special that they are worth working toward.:thumbsup2

No I appreciate the feedback on the cabins, I will forward it to DW so we can discuss before making our decision.

Welcome to all our new cruisers..............just 20 + months to go!

Hello All,

I know its a long way away........ but I'm very excited about booking this cruise. I have a few question for you all.

I have been thinking about the port and wondering if anybody has been to them?. I know that DCL stopped at Cadiz and Gibralta last time but don't think it did the other 3.

Which ports are you most excited about?

I think i will be staying around port's /doing very short excursion as i don't think Noah( who will be 2 and a half) will cope with much more. However ... i'm sure Louis( who will be 15) will want too!

i need to read up more about the port but have listed the intinery......

Friday;Dover, England- depart 5pm
Saturday; Cherbourg, France(7:30 a.m-5:30 p.m.)
Sunday;At Sea
Monday;Vigo, Spain(8:30 a.m-.5:00 p.m.)
Tuesday;Lisbon, Portugal(8:00 a.m.-5:30 p.m.)
Wednesday;Cadiz, Spain(9:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m.).
Thursday;Gibraltar, U.K.(8:30 a.m.-6:00 p.m).
Friday;At Sea
Saturday;Barcelona, Spain 6:45 a.m.

In Gibraltar, i would like to go and see the monkeys, then come back into town for a little shopping and lunch. I have read you can get a taxi or cable car up but not sure how much walking is involved ( as it look very steep) or wheather its buggy safe?

I'm also not sure how long to spend in Barcleona after the crusie. I'm not sure if we will all be shatter and want to go home or if we will feel relaxed and up for 2 night in a new room?.
For anyone who has done longer cruises, have you stayed on or did you preferd to go straight home?

Pirates Night- did they have one last time on med cruises? did a lot of people dress up

Thats all for now.............. have a good friday:goodvibes , Ruth

We did Cadiz and Gibraltar last year on the transAtlantic repo . . . both are easy to do on your own. In Cadiz you can easily walk into the old part of town from the ship -- really in a few blocks you are in lovely walkable narrow streets. If you want to go to a good beach, you would need to take a taxi (we liked Playa Victoria) and the taxis were easy to find and affordable. This time we will likely do the same thing -- wander the old town for a few hours and then head to a beach for a few hours.

Gibraltar is also easy -- it is possible to walk from the ship to the main part of town -- we did it, but it's about 15 minutes and along very industrial areas. There were taxis waiting outside the ship, but they tended to want more money for a guided tour than those on the main drag. We walked around for a while, then negotiated with a taxi driver for a trip to see St Michael's cave, the old siege tunnels, and up to meet the Barbary apes. I would say we had him for about 4 hours and the cost was about 60 euros. I know you could also take a taxi from the ship and get the cable car up to where you go into the cave and see the apes, but sometimes the wait can get long for that. I don't believe it would be possible to walk all the way up the rock -- it was very steep and also very little space even for cars to pass each other.

I am also doing my research into Cherbourg, Vigo, and Lisbon for this time!

If you can, try to spend some time in Barcelona at the end -- we loved the city, and are really looking forward to going back there.

Forgot to answer these before -- sorry!

It is actually more relaxing to get off the ship and have a day or two in Barcelona than it is to rush to the airport, worry about missing a plane, etc. This itinerary is very port intensive, but on the other hand, most interesting things can be done relatively close to the port (as opposed to say, Rome and Florence on the Med cruises where you are looking at a lot of travel time).

There is always pirate night -- but on the Med last year hardly anyone dressed up (although we did!).

Thanks Julie. thats really helpful.
Its great that we can go to the beach in Cadiz and a taxi sound the best way to get up to see the apes in Gibraltor.
I'm glad they still have a pirates night- we will dress up..... ( prob not Louis... but Noah and I will !)

I loved the beach in Cadiz -- it's where the locals go and there are vendors walking around with beer, sodas, etc., for sale . . . getting a taxi to Playa Victoria was easy and as I recall we had to walk a short way to a taxi stand to get one coming back. I will have to look at my journal for that trip, but as I recall I think the taxi from the beach back to the port was only 8 euro or so.

I was thinking of getting of the boat in Barcelona for lunch on 8/7 and going to a tapas bar.

Any thoughts? A bunch of us could go...

The only time we will have in Barcelona will be on that day. We are leaving that day, or next day. We will be shattered, but, I am sure all of us will sleep, for once, on a plane...

Thanks for the info on Cadiz and Gilbralta. Tapas in Barcelona sounds great --- now if our airline reservations cooperate!?!?!? We will probaby be leaving that day as we like to end our vacations on the cruise. Last time we did a post-cruise in Paris and Euro Disney. That was dissapointing as it was more geared to the younger set. My son did manage to get me on the roller coaters (which almost gave me a heart attack!) as I felt sorry for him and he wanted to go. I was so scared that I gave my son instructions before we boarded Space Mountain of who he should call to ship my body back to the States!!! But I survived and would actually ride rock and roll again!!! I think it was the loud music and darkness --- I even opened my eyes a few times!!!

I am hoping they do a pre or post cruise package in London as I would love to go there. I have also been checking out the Disney Destinations to see if they have anything for Portugal or Ireland. They do have an Ireland in 09 but have not released the 2010 ones yet.

We will be starting with a few days in London..my favorite city - can't wait to show my kids... Then, we are taking the cruise right after on 8/7.

That is of course, if the economy doesn't tank anymore. Since we used DVC points, all we have to do is save for airfare...:scared1:

Before we booked two cruises, we were thinking of DLP. I didn't think I would want to go, but now we are all kind of disappointed we aren't going.

Can't wait to go to the Tower of London with my kids, and hopefully do a ghost walking tour. What did Boswell say, "when you are sick of London you are sick of life..."

Maybe? Depends on how we work things out for Flights, etc.

And Julie Thanks so much for giving us all tips!! That will really help!
