I finally remembered to look up our cabin numbers for the spread sheet-- 5628,5629,5631,5635.
We also have early dining- hopefully at 6pm.

Andrew Derek- Belated Birthday wishes!

Thx for the PP! It makes things clearer!

Hey Helen...

Hope your DH doesn't impose your silence again for the Med!!! You have some great trips coming up, it will definitely be hard not to talk about it. Granted, writing is one thing...getting to talk about it definitely adds.

Have you been reading up on the Med, or are you focusing more on Western Caribbean????

Very busy here. Daughter receives confirmation tomorrow and Saturday am she has cheerleading competition at Great Adventure :cheer2: .
A Confirmation and cheerleading talk about a costume change!

Did you make it through? How'd the DD do?

:wave2:

Hi everyone - hi AJ

We made it through, and we had a very exhausting weekend to say the least. Confirmation was great and my dds team came in second out of five teams from her group level.

Congrats AnnaS!!!

It is so exciting to see our children excel and succeed! Don't forget to revel in their success. If you didn't get them to practice...they wouldn't have that success!!! Also, how was your confirmation. Our DD was confirmed in November and it was emotional. There is quite a bit of turmoil in our area regarding confirmation. Our Bishop has decided that rather than hitting each parish each year, we will have one ceremony every four years at our civic center...not even the cathedral!!! One rumor has us traveling on the off years. Very frustrating...I still have to get two more confirmed! UGH!!!

Anyway...Congrats!

:tink:

Hi Tif,

Dave will probably put a vow of silennce on me for the med cruise too !! Luckily I can vent on the boards and talk to my hearts desire :thumbsup2

Im excited about both our cruises.

I can't believe its May already, just a couple of months now!

I have been reading a bit about both - think thats why Dave is a bit confused.
But im concentrating on the western then when we get back I can focus on the med :teeth:

Have a good week
Take care
H
:yay: :yay: :yay:

Congrats, AnnaS -- that is really quite an achievement for your dd!

tomspixie -- what a message for our youth not to join the church. We had our confirmation last Saturday & had a great Bishop - he was so funny. My dd was dropped from the program because she missed one meeting on a Saturday - called Super Saturday. She was advised to wait until she is 18 and then will just need to go 6 weeks instead of repeating the whole 2nd year. That means we'll see her on Easter Vigil - my fave mass. :flower:

Thanks Mary Jo!!! When will your DD be 18??

Getting excited for our basketball tream trip to WDW!! We will be there in exactly 21 days!!! That means DD graduates in 20 days!!!

Thinking about DCL helps to keep me from getting too emotional!

:tink:

I don't know, MJ, but it looks good to me!! :thumbsup2

I just got a couple of travel books yesterday. Haven't had a chance to review other than to flip through them real quick:

Rick Steve's Rome 2006- if you want detailed information about Rome, this book seems to have it all. It has information about several tours (Colosseum, Forum, National Museum tours and so on) explaining what you will see and giving hand drawn maps. It includes things like: Pickpocket alerts and how they will distract you while they steal your goods, where to buy tickets to avoid the lines, what tickets to buy if you are going to see several things, how to get to places, where to eat, sleep etc. Seems very comprehensive and something that you probably will want to carry with you.

Mediterranean By Cruise Ship: The Complete Guide to Mediterranean Cruising by Anne Vipond - again I didn't spend alot of time looking at it yet. It has lots of color pictures, only about 2-5 pages per port, broad information, heavy book so you definitely want to take notes on this one to carry around. Covers Greece (where I want to go someday).

I will report back when I read more. :surfweb:

ETA: Happy Belated Birthday Andrew DEREK :bday:

Rick Steve's Rome 2006 is excellent! On a recent trip to Italy we carried it with us everywhere. The museum tours help you see the highlights with great commentary on what you are looking at. We also visited Paris with Rick Steven's Paris 2006, and while at Versille, another vcouple was touring with Rick's book in their hand. They said it was the only to travel.
A few years ago I was on a Med cruise care of the US Navy and visited Naples. The city itself wasn't much, but Pompai, Sorrento, the Amalfi coast, and Rome were great. At the Vatican there is a Vatican Museum tour including the Cistene Chapel, but usually not St. Peters. There is no charge to visit St. Peters and Rick Steven's book had some good info on each. On Weds. mornings, addresses the crowds in front of St. Peters, it lasts several hours and ends with the Papal blessing. A couple we met went to Capri and said it is beautiful. Alex

Wow Kyla and First Timers....Great job on info!!! I will be heading out to Barnes and Noble to see if I can find the Rick Steve book. Sounds interesting!

Thanks!!!

Awesome work Kayla and Firsttimers!

I've got another book report for you folks:

Birnbaum's Disney Cruise Line 2006

From the 'Duh' column. :teeth:

Interesting that it starts off with the astute observation that if you have the book you must be getting ready to take a Disney cruise. Well that's obvious enough.

The book is half cruise info and half port info. Since there was no info about the Med ports at the time the book was written it's obviously not going to be much help there. So on to the rest of the book about the cruise and the ship.

Since its a Birnbaum's book, this is most certainly less than unbiased. Any slighly negative statements are left for the port excursions.

After the usual "Rah Rah" section to get you in a Disney mood. You go through a good section of hints about how to book your cruise and chose your booking options like dinner, insurance, and cabins. It's done in such short segments that it reminds me of the typical Q&A threads here on the DISBoards. (the tecqnique found throughout the book.) The info is quite solid and sets a good foundation for a new cruiser.

In the sections dedicated to onboard life you get an excellent overview of all the typical activities and facilities. In its short thumbnail format it quickly goes through most of the features to whet your appetite for more info. You certainly get a fun introduction to the unusual aspects of Disney cruising. The guide also spends some time addressing more of the common DISBoard questions like character meets, formal wear, where do the kids go, and what can I do once the kids are out of my hair. You wanna make a phone call or play on the internet, need a real refrigerator? Lots of answers for you. It's a big Q&A session with DCL. With all the options available, each is quickly mentioned and you move off to the next little information blurb.

There's lots of cartoons, small pictures, maps, and sidebars to add flavor to the book. However, with all these graphics there's a strange missing feature - no deck maps?

If you been on a DCL cruise before you've probably heard all this before but you'd be surprised what you might learn. If you've new and not been paying 20 hours a week here on the DISBoards then you might pick this up for a fun read. You may find yourself full of new questions to ask. Just remember to keep in mind that these Birnbaum books are more like Disney travel brochures than neutral reviews.

AJ Great job!!! I have to say that I did pick up the Rick Steve books today. Even added the little translation books!! Haven't gotten through them yet!!

I also picked up a CD with Italien translation. Had a quick meeting with a couple teachers right after school. Abby grabbed my keys and just sat in the car with it on. When I got out to the car I had 6 kids cracking up.
"Skoosie mom, skoosie." "Gratzi" Spelling phonetically....sort of! Anyway, they were so funny saying it was really weird. We will take it slow and simply see if we can get it into our subconciousness!!! If we make any headway, I shall let you know!!!

See ya! :tink:

Thx to all for the excellent book suggestions!!!!!!!!!!!

:goodvibes It's time to start reading!
