Yes, welcome :wave2:

Glad the party went well- DD loves a programme on TV called My Super Sweet 16 about kids in America celebrating- she's starting to get some big ideas!:scared1:

Hi Justine- My almost 13 year old loves My Super Sweet Sixteen....:scared1: :scared1: I keep reminding her after each show that she IS NOT having what amounts to hundreds of thousands of dollars spent on a sweet sixteen party.. Where do people get ideas like this ?????.. but it is fun show to watch.. even I sit with her to watch it because i just cant believe how these kids act and the money they are allowed to spend - this is one scary world we live in!!!!

OK Off to school.... 4 DAYS 1 HOUR!!!!!!!!!!:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

Are you ordering tickets ahead of time? If yes which site are you using? We are concerned about waiting in line for long periods of time when we could be visiting other sites.
There may be information on some of the blogs regarding this but I haven't had time to read many of them. It's hard enough keeping up with this board.

This is me, Morning:surfweb:midday :surfweb: afternoon:surfweb: evening:surfweb:primetime :surfweb:midnight :surfweb: wee hours of the morning:surfweb: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

and I think I'm not the only one :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Sandra

Today is my last day of work (paid) until September:banana:
We have a staff meeting to go over the whole year event by event and see what we can do differently, what worked, what didn't etc... then we go out to lunch.

AFter that it is DD13 kid birthday/ end of the year party at LazerZone with her whole class, some of the teachers and parents. Not me I'll have on earplugs and read a book. Loud music is not my thing, neither is shooting people in the dark but everyone else loves it. Having her birtday the last week of school always seems to translate into a class party as well. Oh well at least this year it's not at my house with the pool etc...THis way I don't have to clean up the mess:banana:

Then I can start concentrating on getting ready for the Cruise.
List of things to do:
*Make fish extender, buy fabric, figure out pattern actually sew
*Make door decoration, buy magnet, download pictures or "scrapbook" image somehow put image on magnet, test magnet with image attached
*Buy green glow necklaces
*Buy lime green ribbons to tie on clothes
*Buy extra TP to start rolling. Let's see 2 people times 6 shore visits = at least 12 rolls, then there is the supply for those not bringing or rolling
*Purchase/make or otherwise acquire hundreds of things for fish extender disboard gifts.
*Purchase extra luggage for said fish extender gifts
*Get part time job to pay for hundreds of fish extender gifts and overweight luggage charges.
*Purchase 2-4 white tshirts and iron on transfer sheets for printer to make 2 tshirts to wear on cruise to be identified by other dissers. (extra shirts are for mistakes)
*Make tshirts and then make them again when the first ones don't come out because I will have forgotten to reverse the printing. (I know me).
*Locate and purchase items of local interest for grab/swap at DisMeet.
*Print out family photos, coordinate with names and make booklet with names matched to faces so I don't totally blow it and call people by the wrong names.

OH Wait:scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:
I don't think I have time to get ready it's only 41 days until we leave.

Sandra

PS did I miss anything? :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Wow the Tag Fairy has been busy!!! You folks saw my new tag before I did!!! Congrats to all on the new tags. The Tag Fairy really has a way with words!!!:lmao: :lmao:

My quote button doesn't work right now so:

Great Pics MaryJo!
Congrats on your 3000th post and hope your back feels better Helen. I had back surgery about 9 years ago for a degenerative disc and haven't had a pain since. We'll talk.
Laura,
My  goes out to you.

Justine,
Wow, pirate: TP. !!!!!!

Sandra,
Enjoy your busy day!

Mary Jo- love all your pics. Looks like a nice lot of breakfasts!:rotfl:
Hey, I like to call it -- research! ;)

Are you ordering tickets ahead of time? If yes which site are you using? We are concerned about waiting in line for long periods of time when we could be visiting other sites.
This is one of the reasons I am rethinking my excursions & not sure whether we should go with a private tour company, or stick w/DCL. I'm also thinking about doing some excursions on our own, but have been too busy @ work to spend much time researching.

This is me, Morning:surfweb:midday :surfweb: afternoon:surfweb: evening:surfweb:primetime :surfweb:midnight :surfweb: wee hours of the morning:surfweb: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:
and I think I'm not the only one :rotfl2:

Sandra

:lmao: OMgosh - yup that is me, too!! I woke up @ 4am yesterday - & came to this thread to try & catch up.:upsidedow

Thank you Tag Fairy for my new tag... I love it!!!!! ......

But really... picture it.. almost 300 people wearing propeller beanie hats sailing off...waving black pirate TP streamers in the breeze.....with bright lime green ribbons attached to our bags and shirts.....
can you picture it?????? Can you ??????? :rotfl2:
OMgosh - hilarious!!! You have a very funny imagination! I'm loving it. btw, great tag :lmao:

i think it will be brent.
I would love it if they recognized the DIS on the cruise!

And, I am answering/replying to threads that are 10 pages behind. :scared1:
Lol - I have two windows open -- the current one, and my catch-up window. I'm on page 547 finally (I started on page 510). Just

Hey MJ?

Now that you posted your picture - you look awfully familiar. I have seen your face before. Did you do any of the special DCL cruises?

Do you collect pins? Up until 6-8 months ago - we used to go to DL to pin trade every so often. Since you mentioned that you went there, maybe I caught you there? Or on a ship?

Doesn't that bug you when you remember someone but can't place them? Now it's going to bug me until I figure it out.
I think I have one of those common faces. If you ever go to St. Anthony's in Gardena - I'm there a lot. Synod? Carson High School? Northrop? I've only been on one cruise & it was a 3-dayer back in '03... I'm not a pin trader, but have been to DL. My pic has been on the DL board a few times - maybe there? You looked familiar, too, and we do live in the same corner of the world. Maybe we have met.

Has anyone noticed at the bottom of our thread - the related threads

First one reads - There are some wonderful teachers - wow the dis are good at matching threads:grouphug:
That was pretty cool. I have a high respect for teachers.

Lynn is away for the week with her school ( I think its an outward bound trip) she then said she would be busy the next few weekends and might not get on as much .
Is it Lynn or JoAnn who's playing in the forest this week?

All 4 of us do complete with Disney Jibbitz !!!
I'm so proud I actually know what you're talking about. :::sniff::: -- Gotta love the DIS :goodvibes

This is my 3000thpost!

Congratulations!!!

I have a question for anybody and everybody. If one in your party is not with you upon check-in, can they check in later?
Laura, I just called DCL & asked them, and they said that there would not be a problem.

Maybe it should be put with useful information on page 1?.... and then as time goes by, adapted to keep it not quite possible to achieve before we leave for the cruise?
:rotfl:

I just wanted to say how much I am enjoying everyone's pictures. The kids & I are travelling with a great lôôking group of DISers!

Passport Issue

I'm a little concerned about our passports. Fellow DISer, Marla, ordered passports for herself & daughter back in FEBRUARY, and while hers came in about a week ago, her daughter's is still sitting on someone's desk in New Orleans, so they will not be able to board the Magic tomorrow. I feel so badly for them.

She wasn't allowed to try & expedite them until they were out two weeks from departure, and even her congressman didn't have enough pull to get the passport. This is just awful.

I'm wondering if I would be able to pay to have the kids' passports expedited at this date.

Not sure about this Maryjo- it cant hurt to call DCL just to see what they have to say, maybe they have some sort of solutuion- there must be many people in this same situation with all the new rules, and probably many trying to book last minute. :confused3

Great news Wendy! I'm sure everyone had a nice time! The thread has certainly been busy. But the burning question is about toilet paper. Are you a "roller"? :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Maryann

Wendy better catch up and start reading some blogs - someone else on an excursion to Capri (they took the boat over) said that the boat had a bathroom but no paper :lmao:

Wendy -

we will be waiting for an answer - will you be rolling?

I will definintely be rolling!

Hey MJ?

OH - and on a totally different subject. We went back to another Marshall's and we picked up 3 more suitecases -

1.gif
1.gif

I just bought some new luggage yesterday too - no luck having a Marshalls in Bozeman, but it was major on sale at Macy's plus I had another 20% coupon, so I'm pleased. I was sure to get something other than black. We have also have mickey straps to put on our luggage too. My DD16 will surely be jealous when she sees your daughter's pink luggage. That's what she wants. I told her I'd buy her luggage for high school graduation - you should see the face I got on that one:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Joann I love your toliet paper tag :goodvibes

we are certainly very lucky on this thread to have the tag fairy visit us so oftern

We have had a ton of new, really funny tags! We must be very special!

This is my 3000thpost!

1.gif

It's like a part time job??

Thank you Laura, I have degenated dics in my spine so I often have back troubles. Its one of the reason IM trying to cut back on my visits to the thread

I've not looked at the related thread just noticed the title and thought it was funny it was linked to ours
No pun intended??

That is frickin hilarious!!

Tag extension! Trying not to be too grateful because I'm getting tough!

Ta very much
I love it!!

Do you think the photos are going to be no help at all then and that none of us will be able to recognise each other?
We going to be looking out all week for those beautiful people we met on the boards!

That is really what our family looks like - although my boys have grown quite a bit. My daughter wants everyone to know that she does have short on - they are just hidden. But, I will be losing 35 pounds in the next 5 weeks, so you might have trouble recognizing me :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :dance3:

OK Off to school.... 4 DAYS 1 HOUR!!!!!!!!!!
We had a normal party - Papa Murphy's pizza, ice cream cake, assorted munchies, soda, strawberry lemonade, fire pit s'mores and then toys - trampoline, slip-n-slide (she bought that special for the party), hot tub, pool table, ping pong etc. They all love that show too - were making fun of it last night - "Oh, Katie where is your hot pink jaquar? Or did you return it because you really wanted purple?"

Today is my last day of work (paid) until September

I can't believe I'm close to Sallie - guess she'll be posting more now that school's almost out though

Here is a summary of things we've discussed (most assuredly incomplete, but here goes)

Lime green: Official color of the DIS. People use ribbons, Mickey paint chips (Home Depot), t-shirts, etc., in lime green to recognize each other (this is done at parks and cruises

Recommendations:
Lime green ribbons: Put lime green ribbons or have something lime green during Cruise and at meets prior to cruise (AnnaS - Anna)
Glow necklaces: Preferred color lime green, however, any color would work - to wear when we meet Friday night and/or when we check in on Saturday. (salliep - Sallie)
Local gift bag worth $15-$20 with something from your area - to be exchanged at DIS meet
Fish extenders outside staterooms
Small, nominal gifts for fish extenders

DIS Meet: Sunday, Promenade Lounge (Deck 3) at 09:30
Group Picture: Location/Date/Time TBD

Photos of fellow DISers cruising: Page 529, Post 7933 (disneylover5 - Lisa)
http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=19165821&postcount=7933
Photos are also on Page 1, Post 12

Lanyards: To be handed out prior to the cruise & during the DIS meet (Kyla - Jeanne)
http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=19168700&postcount=7950

Nametags for the lanyards (disneylover5 - Lisa)
Lisa updates this list as she gets new information

Meet before the cruise
Meet at the Magic Fountain for the 22:30 show.
Drink (or two) at the Grand Marina hotel near the ship before the Magic Fountain mee

List of Pirates (Andrew the Pirate Keeper)
There are several posts with the list, but you can find a good list at post #8019
(btw: WMRegina gave me that weebles wobble tag - she would laugh at knowing that is my pirate name)
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1064311&page=535

Important components of the Packing List (Sandaneli - Sandra)

Other Notes:
JoAnn will be providing TP rolls to those who sign up. I imagine her stateroom will look something like this when she unpacks:

And for the major pirates there's always

(Thanks, Justine for getting this pic)

And especially for the DISers

And we'll be well prepared for any church, right?
mummy.jpg

(This actually reminds me of the time that I got the bright idea to dress my ds as a mummy for Halloween when he was in 3rd grade (I think). I wrapped him up in toilet paper, and when I ran out, I used paper towels. I'll never forget the image of him sitting in the car on the way to school with his arms sticking out (think of the little brother in his snow suit in the movie "A Christmas Story"), and then shaking his head and saying, "I'm not very happy," with tears in his eyes. OMGosh, I felt like such a terrible mommy!! I called work & told them we had a domestic issue I had to take care of, and then went to the store & bought a ton of gauze. I dressed him up, and of course, as the day wore on, the gauze was falling off -- he got the award at school for the best homemade costume. He ended up a happy little boy that day... but the image of him sitting in my car w/paper ripping everytime he moved... it's really funny ....... now)

[I love it, love it, love it.

Yikes!!!!!!!!!!!

After all that planning and after all that rolling, flashing, shopping - could you imagine :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

Here is a summary of things we've discussed (most assuredly incomplete, but here goes)

He ended up a happy little boy that day... but the image of him sitting in my car w/paper ripping everytime he moved... it's really funny ....... now)

I've been keeping an eye on this for a while now. The pricing has been holding steady. Curiously, the room availability has been fairly steady as well - I did some more research by experimenting with the site on a distant (Nov 2008 off-peak) cruise.

It turns out that the list of rooms it displays is just their view of "the best" available staterooms. There's a checkbox below that allows you to check the availability of any other stateroom.

So the 35 numbered staterooms available actually represents a minimum number of available staterooms. The actual number may be greater.

Regarding the category 12 - I don't think they EVER show exact staterooms on the web. On the Nov 2008 cruise it just showed GTY for category 12.

The real question at this point, given that so many people downgraded to category 12, is what strategy do they use when upgrading? Do they upgrade as many people as possible to the best categories available (risking leaving all the category 12 cabins empty), or do they upgrade people as little as possible, leaving the category 12 cabins full?

And what criteria do they use on the upgrading? We know they consider number of people (in that anyone with 4 in a cabin must be upgraded to category 11 at least). But do they consider when you placed the reservation? How many times you've sailed? Whether you have future bookings? Whether you're planning to bring your own toilet paper aboard or expecting to sneak theirs off the ship for excursions?

Does anyone have any insight regarding the mysterious workings of the gnomes of inventory control?

Logic would suggest that most cruises would have at least one or two cabins empty if only due to last minute cancellations due to illness, missing passports, etc. Whether they hold a cabin or two intentionally I couldn't say. I think they would, but who knows?

It's a safe bet that if you've requested a specific cabin, they won't move you without at least calling you first. I would also guess that once they've sent out your luggage tags, they won't change them without very good cause due to the increased chance of mistakes, lost luggage, etc.

I believe they do try to keep linked cabins near each other, but whether they succeed or not would depend on availability.

Everytime I checked the site, it always showed exactly 7 rooms per category as available so I figured these aren't really the rooms. I forgot that there was a way to check availability. Thanks Dan for all the insights.

We requested a specific cabin when we booked so when I started hearing about the upgrades (didn't know DCL did that), I called them back and said I wasn't adverse to an upgrade just because I requested a specific cabin. So they said they would note that in our reservation. Also, on past cruises, I've been linked with my family's reservations and my one sister was a GTY. She ended up getting a room at the opposite end of the boat.

When we downgraded to category 12, I figured my sister (4) will get upgraded but since I'm only a party of 2, we probably will be sitting in cat 12 rooms. Its interesting this category 12. Do people always book it expecting an upgrade? I'm in group 2 of always asking for a specific cabin because I like deck 5, so this is the first time, I'm in group 3, just get on the ship. I guess I really don't mind, since this cruise is so different than past ones. Being in port almost everyday, we'll be so busy, not sure if I'll ever be in my room except to sleep.
