I didn't realize you are on that cruise, Dan! It will be a terrific one . . . hard to imagine it could be better than being in the Med, though.

It's still not 100% - I've never done a cruise this long (11 night), and am not sure whether or not I'll go stir crazy after all that time. My guess is though that it will be great, and I'll stick with the repo.

If we finish up with Pompeii and get to Sorrento for lunch (as I anticipate) we will probably have pizza there too -- just none with propellers or flashes, please! (Sorry, Sallie . . .) Then when we head back into Napoli I want to try Michele's for the reputation.

We have the 1/2 day hidden treasures of Herculeaneum (sp?) trip - the plan is to go to Michele's for lunch after the tour.

The 2005 14 day repo was very good about right, after that the 7 day Carrbean cruise in 2006 was over in a FLASH.

I think with so many ports of call this one will be over in a FLASH-FLASH,

Wow. It seems my DD & DS were lucky. When they bought their pounds, the rate was at the lowest.

So, are you treating lunch, Andrew?:rotfl: :rotfl:

Wait until Sallie hears this!!!!!:lmao: :lmao:

I've been having trouble posting today- it won't let me quote so here goes-

Andrew- Congratulations on your 10,000th post.

Julie- Congratulations on your 2,000th post.

Mrs G- Your packing list sounds fine to me.

I'll be on later and maybe I 'll be able to quote.

We will probably be there later, but we can compare our experiences at Michele's on the ship! I don't think with all the ports on this cruise that you will go stir crazy at all . . . even on the 2008 repo, there are plenty of ports and not too many sea days in a row.

Yeah, I noticed that. I did buy some pounds earlier. I just keep telling myself that I saved almost $3000 in the downgrade, and that will make up for the exchange rate shift many, many times over....

Hey Gang,
You guys have been chatty! I'm just checking in to get instructions for the fish extender. DW wants to go to the fabric store tonight.

Most everybody is gone from the office, so I'm actually getting something done today. Still feeling sore from having wisdom tooth pulled Tuesday. Been putting that off for some time. But didn't want to get on the boat and have problems (remember Tom Hanks in Castaway. :scared1:).

Then I burned my hand on the BBQ grill Wed. What a klutz. Geez! But no worries. It's just skin .

Too much other stuff to ketchup on now. I'll try later. But, Andrew, glad to hear your DD is doing well. Everybody take care.

Later!
Brian

PS - Finally watched the James Bond film, Casino Royale, last night. Good, but I wish the new Bond had a little more wit, like previous characters. I did like that much of it was set in Nassau and Italy. Given those locales I'm surprised there wasn't a cameo by DCL!

Reminds me of an incident on my second or third cruise....

I was doing a conference circuit and had flown into Orlando from Frankfurt. I had a tooth that on the flight was a bit sensitive to cold, so I decided to have it checked - just in case, so I wouldn't have trouble on the cruise. Found a dentist in Orlando who found two cavities that needed to be filled. Had him do it, but the bite wasn't quite right so it remained painful and sensitive.
I'd also been feeling under the weather on the trip, so I went to a doc in the box for a mild sore throat - again, just in case. Doc didn't think it was anything, but came back within minutes of doing a rapid strep test - yep, positive for that as well.
So I spent the entire cruise still on antibiotics and pain killers (for the teeth and sore throat - you know how it is after strep, you're not contagious after a few days on the meds, but it still hurts like crazy), chewing as carefully as I could.
I still had a great cruise, but remember feeling that the situation had crossed the line from annoying into ludicrous

Three weeks should be plenty of recovery time. If you want a laugh, remind me on the cruise to tell you my wisdom teeth story - another one that is very funny in hindsight, but not one you'd want to hear now :)

Feel better Brian. You were wise to have it out now, by your choice, than by an emergency, no choice!

I did like Casino Royale. The new Bond grew on me by the end of the film. Great scenery shots. Hard to believe we'll be there soon..........

HI Everyone- I was out shoppping most of the day. I got a few outfits for the trip as well as some clothes for Carley. I cant believe another day is gone! I will; never be ready for this trip!

I was able to buy this for my cats and it really does work (here is a site for dogs) -
http://www.24hourpet.com/animal-behavior-comfort-zone-dogs-c-70_114.html?osCsid=
I plug it into an outlet like an air freshener and replace it about every 45 days. Good suggestion, Helen!

I am going to try this for Cleo who still hates the new kittens:sad2: Thanks for the heads up Maryann!!

I know, Sallile. I started to put clothes together that I will not wear between now and the trip. It is an insane amount of clothing!!!! DH said not to worry because my clothes are not too big, but I hate overpacking. What really has me crazy is the covering of shoulders and knees. Normally I would just wear no sleeve tops and shorts during the day, capris at night, but now I have to take more capris and short sleeved shirts - ughhhhhhhhh. Plus, with the heat, that means changing for dinner - don't want to wear the same clothes all day (phew). I know doing wash will be difficult, I might just send it out and pay the fee. So........... - now I am working on downsizing.

Here's my thoughts:
2 nights before cruise
11 nights of dinner for the ship
13 - total dinner clothes
-3 nights of formal/semi formal clothes- 1 long skirt -2 tops 1 short skirt
10 nicer shirts for dinner- I am reusing capris and skirts below
4 capris
3 skirts
14 shirts for daytime - no room for spillage!
5 shorts

Plus I am sticking with certain colors so I can mix and match.
What am I doing wrong?

Maryann

I'm with you Maryann- overpacking :crazy2: :crazy2: I'm definitely taking a tank top/no sleeve type of top for each day, plus 2 or 3 extra, so that makes about 20 tops!!!!
light weight shirt to put over skimpy/FLASH resistent tops for church
shorts for each day
2 bathing suits
cover- up for pool (so as not to scare the public with my large percentage of body fat)
4-5 capris
4 skorts
2 evening dresses
couple of sweaters
pirate top
wrap for formal night
pjs/undies
haven't found the right lightweight skirt to put over shorts for church
and probably more of the above

and finally the most important item.................come on........... you know..................did you guess??????????????????

my propellor hat!!!!!!!!!!!:rotfl: :rotfl2:  :woohoo: :dance3:

Maryann, I'm afraid that if I tell you how few clothes I am taking for 5 weeks in Europe, you will think I'm a total nut-case! But I hate to overpack, so here goes:

That's actually much more than I would pack if I didn't have to deal with formal and semi-formal nights on the ship . . .

Julie- you are my hero!!! I only wish!!!!!:worship:

Thanks, I was very worried about her op as it had a knock on effect elsewhere, (I think you know) I will not post here.

But all worked out.
I only had 1 ear ache in my entire life- and I woulnd't wish that pain on anyone- I hope she is feeling better Andrew... I remember putting the heating pad on my ear and it did fee la little better.. try it if she is in pain:hug:

This is my 2000th post!

Note to self: get a life!
:rotfl2: :cheer2: :woohoo:

Three reasons

  • People, good ones
  • Pirates pirate:
  • Pizza!

Ok no Pizza, its Piza, but I fancy one!

I hope to have one in Sorrento on our private tour,

I think it will be a

PIZZA FLASH, a bit over exposed with propellers on it!

Now your getting the idea!!! :thumbsup2 :cool1: :yay: :woohoo:

Lets see if anyone recognizes this post!!!

Yes I did see it a few days after she posted it..... me boring????? She must be crazy!!!!!!!!! :upsidedow :cool2: :3dglasses

Jasmine does not need any more adventures!:scared1:

Yesterday's first game was a disaster---tournament director gave us no rules until we pitched a boy for 2 outs in the 5th inning and then said we had to forfeit because the boy could only pitch 4 innings---of course we were ahead by 3 runs! Funny how he all of a sudden came up with the rules that ds had asked for all week and could not get from him! Talk about one mad coach! Second game had better outcome as Chad was winning pitcher and knocked in winning run for his little minor league team to win their championship, so that added a bright spot to the day.

Today Chad's All-Star team lost, but we will be shocked to see them in the win column. Chad is a good sport, win or loose so that makes it worth going to his games!:cool2:

The travel team starts another tournament in Pittsburgh in a few days! Just can't stay away from it! Maybe I will take the laptop so I can keep up with things!:dance3:

Harole Ann , my son's team played a double header today at Disney Wide World of Sports and lost both games :sad2: Their first game was against a team from Santa Domingo which my DH said all looked like they were 16 ( it's a 12U bracket) and it was 11-0 by the fourth inning.....yikes. The next game was against a team from Puerto Rico and was 13-8. They have 3 more games to play , I hope tomorrow is better! I'm like you, I LOVE baseball. The boys are having a good time thought, it's a wonderful group of kids. Just wanted to share with another BB fan. :cheer2:

Hi Everyone -

This is my 2nd post YEAH!!! :yay:
It's very hard to keep up with you guys!!! :confused3
I admit it - I'm a lurker :surfweb: I don't have a computer at home so I can only check on your chats while I'm at work... Anyway I am SO excited I can barely stand it. I'm driving everyone I know crazy - all I talk about is getting ready for the cruise, shopping for the cruise, packing for the cruise etc etc etc. I'm driving my husband crazy :rotfl2: because every day I come home from work with some new printed off info... packing list, travel tips, airline baggage limits. I read the blogs on allears.net and I can't wait to experience Italy and France.
Can't wait to meet you all. Take Care - See you on 7/28

Hi everyone, checking in for the afternoon.

And I've got some good news for us! I haven't said much on the boards, but I've been in a quiet panic mode because everyday I checked the online passport status for the kids, and everyday the passports were being "processed." I sent an email on Monday with my concerns, and I don't know if it was the email, or the natural timing for the Passport agency, but today when I checked online it said that the passports are being mailed & should be here by 7/10. :woohoo:

Ok - I took the luggage down yesterday, and I opened each bag this morning- I stared at the beautiful empty space just waiting to be filled with many clothes I will probably never wear, many "just in case" toiletries and medications I will hopefully not use, and hundreds of miscellaneous items that will take me hours to pack................ then I shut them!!!!!!

this is one of those times I wish I were rich.........then my housekeeper and personal secretary could do it!~!!!!!!!!!!!!! :upsidedow

Here's my thoughts:
2 nights before cruise
11 nights of dinner for the ship
13 - total dinner clothes
-3 nights of formal/semi formal clothes- 1 long skirt -2 tops 1 short skirt

Maryann

Maryann, I'm afraid that if I tell you how few clothes I am taking for 5 weeks in Europe, you will think I'm a total nutcase! But I hate to overpack, so here goes:

Note: almost everything can be mixed around with everything else

One formal dress
One pair velvet pants for dinner
two nice sweater/shirts for dinner
Three skirts (covering knees)
Three capris
2 short skirts for ship
6 shirts
1 lightweight cardigan
2 pairs sandals, 1 pair flip flops
swimming suit, nightgown, underwear, toiletries

That's actually much more than I would pack if I didn't have to deal with formal and semi-formal nights on the ship . . .

Here's My List:
  • 1 pair Jeans
  • 2 pair Dockers
  • 3 pair Shorts
  • 2 printed T-Shirts
  • 3 Polos
  • 2 Tommy Bahama Shirts
  • 1 Swimsuit
  • 1 Partridge in a Pear Tree
  • 1 Suit (Formal/Semi Formal/Palo)
  • 1 Dress Shirt/Tie
  • 1 Silk Shirt (Semi Formal)
I'll be washing at least twice since i'm only going ashore 4 of the 8 days... I need to relax!!!

here's my list

3 pairs of jeans
9 pairs of capris
4 pairs of shorts
7 t-shirts
9 shirts to go w/capris
3 formal/semi-formal dresses
9 dinner dresses
1 pirate outfit

i don't plan on washing. i know it will be a nightmare. i'm taking 1 large suitcase, 1 medium suitcase, 1 carryon. i pretty much have everything packed.

You guys are so well prepared! Whoever our dinner companions are will be underwhelmed by my clothing. Lol. I need to pack as light as I can so I'll be doing a lot of mix & matching & wearing basically the same thing (clean though - I won't drive anyone away).

A Tale of Two Prawns
I shared this one with my friends -- we all :rotfl:

Late tonight, had to take DD to hospital in London, and one tube line is out re a derailment of eight carriage's.
Derek, I hope your dd is okay, and will be fine on the cruise.

What a mess on the tube, though. Major bummer.

For anyone planning on seeing a lot of art, particularly in Rome and Florence, there is a great book I could recommend. It is actually for children, although it is aimed at older children and all the information is perfectly good for adults. It is "Renaissance," by DK Eyewitness Books, and has terrific pictures and information. The list price is $15.99 in the US, but you also might find it at a library.
Thank you for sharing this. :)

TICKET STAKES!!

Who will be the first to get their cruise tickets and what state will it be,?

Who is going to have a guess, who will be the first person (honestly) to get there cruise tickets!

I punt for London, unless we have another Postal strike.

Me or DisneynutinLondon Izzy!

any other bets? Maybe New Yorkers??
We ARE getting close, huh. Do they send to the people in the higher Cats first? I'm way down the list in that case. Or do they send to guests in different regions? I figure I'll be reading a lot of "I GOT MY DOCS!" and I'll be sitting here waiting, then they'll go to the UPS office that is inconveniently located in Cerritos & I'll have to go there (too bad it's not FedEx - we have an office right here!).

Just thought I would share our plans. If anyone else has reserved the same trips, let me know! :woohoo:
Palermo - Village of Cefalu 8am-130pm :yay:
Naples - Amalfi Coast Drive and Ruins of Pompeii 8am-530pm:rolleyes1
Olbia - La Cinta Beach 915am-145pm:3dglasses
Rome - Ultimate Rome Experience 715am-545pm :cool2:
La Spezia - Wine Tasting and Sarzana 115pm - 615pm :cloud9:
Marseille - Calanques of Cassis 1245pm-515pm :goodvibes
Villefranche - Monaco, Monte Carlo and Eze 845am - 515pm :thumbsup2

Good night all
