Packing

I do hate packing - but what is even worse is letting dave anywhere near the cases!!!

What I do!

In one of the bedrooms I lay out the two cases.

In another one I lay out all the clothes I have bought for the cruise.

Then I realize I have bought way too much!

So I try to cut back - nightmare

I then go on the BA website and pay for extra baggage!

Then it comes to shoes - how many is too many? You've got to match and be comfortable. - Then do I take trainers - if I want to go to the gym I guess so

No, I won't do a trip report -- don't want to take the time while on the trip, too crazed when I first come back from the trip, and then I lose interest! You'll get a report of the highlights here on this thread when I get back, though.

Supposedly there are two rivals in the "best Naples pizza" contest: Antica Pizzaria da Michele, at the intersection of Via Pietro Colletta and Via Cesare Sersale, near Piazza Garibaldi, and Pizzaria Trianon, literally across the street. Michele supposedly attracts more locals (which appeals to me) but Trianon has air conditioning, better atmosphere, and higher prices to match.

I look forward to the highlights. I wonder if we'll have time to eat there, or if we'll still be full from lunch in Sorrento.

Had one of my most interesting train rides whilst travelling from Madrid to Hamburg one winter. (I think it was 32 hours, with a 9-hour layover in Paris - great experience for a 21-year old)

I'll be getting things along the way, but won't actually pack until July 20th... I know me too well. Our plane leaves at 6:30am on Tuesday the 24th.

Hi everyone, checking in for the afternoon.

And I've got some good news for us! I haven't said much on the boards, but I've been in a quiet panic mode because everyday I checked the online passport status for the kids, and everyday the passports were being "processed." I sent an email on Monday with my concerns, and I don't know if it was the email, or the natural timing for the Passport agency, but today when I checked online it said that the passports are being mailed & should be here by 7/10.

Keeping fingers crossed for you!

I admit it - I'm a lurker I don't have a computer at home so I can only check on your chats while I'm at work... Anyway I am SO excited I can barely stand it. I'm driving everyone I know crazy - all I talk about is getting ready for the cruise, shopping for the cruise, packing for the cruise etc etc etc. I'm driving my husband crazy because every day I come home from work with some new printed off info... packing list, travel tips, airline baggage limits. You guys have been chatty! I'm just checking in to get instructions for the fish extender. DW wants to go to the fabric store tonight.

Most everybody is gone from the office, so I'm actually getting something done today. Still feeling sore from having wisdom tooth pulled Tuesday. Been putting that off for some time. But didn't want to get on the boat and have problems (remember Tom Hanks in Castaway. ).

Then I burned my hand on the BBQ grill Wed. What a klutz. Geez! But no worries. It's just skin .

Too much other stuff to ketchup on now. I'll try later. But, Andrew, glad to hear your DD is doing well. Everybody take care.

PS - Finally watched the James Bond film, Casino Royale, last night. Good, but I wish the new Bond had a little more wit, like previous characters. I did like that much of it was set in Nassau and Italy. Given those locales I'm surprised there wasn't a cameo by DCL!

I'm with you Maryann- overpacking I'm definitely taking a tank top/no sleeve type of top for each day, plus 2 or 3 extra, so that makes about 20 tops!!!!
light weight shirt to put over skimpy/FLASH resistent tops for church
shorts for each day
2 bathing suits
cover- up for pool (so as not to scare the public with my large percentage of body fat)
4-5 capris
4 skorts
2 evening dresses
couple of sweaters
pirate top
wrap for formal night
pjs/undies
haven't found the right lightweight skirt to put over shorts for church
and probably more of the above

and finally the most important item.................come on........... you know..................did you guess??????????????????

Also, a tip that a cousin gave to me years ago is to wash unmentionables while you take your shower, or in the sink, wring as much as you can, & then just hang them in the closet w/your clothes (or over the bathtub on the clothesline) to keep them fresh and from accumulating. I do this w/mine & with my socks. If each member of the family did that, it would save a little in the dirty laundry bag.

We're going to be gone from July 24-August 17, and we're trying to not overpack. That same cousin came to California & stayed here for a month with one suitcase that was light enough to carry. I have sort of the same goal. (notice I said "goal" lol)

I'm debating on whether to get travel-sized toiletries & toss as we use them up, or the bigger toiletries & all three of us share. The kids like different shampoo/conditioner than I like, so I need to keep that in mind, too.

They just say, 'whatever you decide, Mom'

I did like Casino Royale. The new Bond grew on me by the end of the film. Great scenery shots. Hard to believe we'll be there soon..........

Reminds me of an incident on my second or third cruise....

I was doing a conference circuit and had flown into Orlando from Frankfurt. I had a tooth that on the flight was a bit sensitive to cold, so I decided to have it checked - just in case, so I wouldn't have trouble on the cruise. Found a dentist in Orlando who found two cavities that needed to be filled. Had him do it, but the bite wasn't quite right so it remained painful and sensitive.
I'd also been feeling under the weather on the trip, so I went to a doc in the box for a mild sore throat - again, just in case. Doc didn't think it was anything, but came back within minutes of doing a rapid strep test - yep, positive for that as well.
So I spent the entire cruise still on antibiotics and pain killers (for the teeth and sore throat - you know how it is after strep, you're not contagious after a few days on the meds, but it still hurts like crazy), chewing as carefully as I could.
I still had a great cruise, but remember feeling that the situation had crossed the line from annoying into ludicrous

Three weeks should be plenty of recovery time. If you want a laugh, remind me on the cruise to tell you my wisdom teeth story - another one that is very funny in hindsight, but not one you'd want to hear now

Dan, you can share that story with me over a frosty one!

Before I forget ... anybody rembers the last post with instructions for the fish extender?

I still look at it and feel like I'm right there again "hamming" it up! I've reshot this a few times but it has not come out as good as this FIRST time of doing it. And on another note - I wanted to thank everyone else who has contributed to this thread and kept it alive. I come here every now and then to get some fresh images of sailing with DCL - and it is often so entertaining and pleasant here. I've only posted a few dozen images on this thread - but eventually I'll get around to doing more. My extrenal HD failed and that is where a lot of my images are stored - especially my most recent sailing - an 11 nite southern last september with 6,700+ images. Yeah - I shot 600+ images a day ... I'm a nut! So just yesterday I bought some parts which may enable salvaging my data from the exteral HD. And all I have to say/share in closing is... never buy a Western Digital external hard drive!

OMG!!! THAT is hilarious!!!!!

My Mom taught me that trick when I was young. When traveling, wash your unmentionables while you're in the shower. Also when rinsing off after swimming - just wear your bathing suit into the shower and you can hand wash it in there. Shampoo's are very mild - no need for woolite!
