Hi everyone,

I wasn't on the boards much yesterday as I was suffering from a sinus headache & my eyes hurt too much to read. :headache: But, I feel better today -- off to watch PTOC III w/Nick & Kelly today once they get up. It's just 5:40am right now, and I realize I have a lot to catch up on. Kelly & I already saw it, but Nick hasn't so we're going to see it together again. I love that this year seems to be a good summer for movies coming out. Also, Nick just asked me when the latest Harry Potter book comes out & I think it does in July. We're going to get it & wait until vacation to read it (though I think I'll have HIM put it in his luggage since it's heavy ;) )

Laura, my sister who travels a lot swears by Airborne . . . she takes it before the flight, on the flight, and once or twice a day as a precaution. I prefer Emergen-C, which comes in little packets you mix in water. I usually drink one before bed while on vacation, more if I feel I am coming down with something.

Andrew, my oldest daughter gets motion sickness and uses the sea bands with success. She also uses chewable ginger (the ones here are called Chimes) which has immediate stomach soothing effects.
My ex-inlaws also swear by Airborne & I plan on taking that, as well as Sudafed, Excedrin... We haven't suffered from motion sickness, but I've seen those wrist bands and I am tempted to take them, just in case.

Ok so the weather is FANTASTIC right now in north London and my two boys have decided that it's a "fine day" to be Monorail Imagineers. So they've taken into the garden ALL the WDW Monorail that we've bought back over the years. If it gets built into anything interesting I'll post a photo
A photo would be fun to see.

Good Morning everyone- I cant believe we woke up to yet another terrorist threat here at JFK Airport- It is the major story on all news channels today this morning. Of course we delayed booking this cruise because of 9/11 and all the threats and warnings about overseas travel since. I must say living in NYC or very close to, is like living with a weight upon your shoulders, as I am sure is for all those living in "high risk" areas. Over 40 people alone were killed in my town from 9/11- including a mother of 4 children.

WE only live about 15-20 min from JFK, but due to a mistake by our TA, we are leaving out of Newark, which we were a little upset about since that airport is in New Jersey, about 70 min away. Well, there goes that fate thing again- what will be, will be.

Thank God for the FBI, and the National Security- What a world we live ..in:sad2: :guilty: :sad2:
Even in LA I worry about what could happen. I can only imagine how you feel in New York, and I know it doesn't come near what you all really are feeling.

Cold :- I was sitting next to a toddler on the plane back and that child had a bad cold and passed it on, I remember thinking, I am going to get it!!!!

8564, Spooky, that was my Stateroom for the 2005 Panama trip, last year I had 8566, this year two down form you at 8568, and next year, for Panama well the other side but 8064!

When I did the panama cruise, I went to Las Vegas and the number ended with 64, so did the Hollywood Hotel and so did the Grand Californian!
Okay, that would have been weird.

Well not to make you feel any more guilty but I have been here for 3 hours waiting and writing only to have it snatched away from me in the last final moment.....and now I can't Sleep. but don't give it a second thought.
Really.
How could someone just SNATCH it from you like that! We have some s n e a k y people on this thread. :lmao:

Penny - it happens to the best of us - this newly discovered disease AKA Helenitis. Right now I am suffering a MAJOR case of it. Well, ok - I already had it but I knew it as Laura-itis!
Lol - there has been a lot of this 'itis going on, especially with a certain two missing posters... uh huh... :rolleyes1

:rolleyes1 Oh No we've got another one!!!:rolleyes1
It was BLATANT!! lol

 Helen!

I think she got bested by the boards going down. Did anyone tell the newbies that the boards go down. For me its 12:22 PST. I noticed that we have A LOT of low posters so I'm wondering if they are that new they may not know what happens. Or else - she may have gotten frustrated. Gosh - can you recal her name?
That happens to me, too. That's usually my signal that it REALLY is time to go to bed.

Hi to everyone going on the Disney Magic 28th July, we have just booked yesterday and cant wait!!
Have just finished reading all your postings and its interesting to see how many holidays poeple go on!! espcially Andrew(do you ever have time for work)!! Fair play to you !!
We have never cruised with DCL before although we have stayed at Disney world Wilderness Lodges many times and are looking forward to the Disney cruise experience.
Question for Andrew
We have always had a fantastic time at Disney and find it difficult to see how this can be re created on a cruise ship, how does the quality of the entertainment and service compare to that of the parks and resorts?
If any one has any good tips( we have 2 chilren aged 11 and 8) or can recomend a good hotel in Barcelona as we fly out 2 days early it would be great to hear from you.

Paul.

Welcome Paul, Jane and family.

You will feel lot's of disney "magic" on the ship -

there is the character breakfast, the sailway party with the characters brings tears to my eyes. There will be characters if you want pictures before dinner, etc. They are around - yet not overbearing.

The shows are terrific and are disney themed (except for the comedy, dance themes 70s, 80s, etc.). There are disney activities for kids - tea w/wendy and bingo for adults (as an example). There is a whole lot of disney - and a whole lot of non- disney activities going on.

We love the fact that there are no casinos - very family oriented - no hard partying. We trust the name/quality and feel as safe as we can be considering you are not truly safe anywhere. The food we have found to be a bit better than good - we have had no problems with it. I did not have to cook so I say it was excellent ;)

Except for the excursions - you can make it as relaxing or as active as you want it to be.

Have you booked any excursions yet?

Late seating/early seating?

Ask away - :goodvibes

:welcome: to the DIS! and our July 28-August 8 ROME-ancing the Mouse cruise!

Hi everyone!!

It's Sun afternoon here.. I haven't had a chance to check the boards in a couple days and OMG I had a lot of reading to do :) I really appreciated reading the blog by Deb Wills (I think?) as it was positive and sounds like an amazing time. I cannot wait!!!!!!!!!!!

What'd you all do this weekend?!

I've been doing lots of house work/organizing but it's been pretty rainy. Poor Valerie (my soon to be 2 year old) was promised a trip to the swimming pool each day and she just sits in her bathing suit waiting for the rain to stop :sad1: She's so sweet.

I'll talk to you later!

Hello Paul nice to meet you. We've also got 2 kids both boys age 11 and 9.

On a personal note my kids and DH JUST LOVE    the cruises but I loke the parks better. That being said the DCL cruises really do have the Disney feeling. The ships are beaustifuly decorated, the service from the staff is second to none and all the characters and fun are most certainly onboard. On an even better note becuase of the FANTASTIC kids clubs it means even the adults can have some downtime alone and the kids enjoy their time as well. In fact on our last cruise in December when Paul and I went to Palo for dinner our 2 boys went to dinner in Lumiares on their own. The wait staff were just so good we knew that there would be no problems.

Hi Linda,

Where are you in Sicily? I was born in Carini (provence Palermo). My relatives will be meeting us at the Palermo port to go spend a few hours in my hometown.

I've been working my way backwards on these posts, but I am remiss.

Welcome back, Helen & Derek!! Hope you had a good time, but you've been missed!

ok post away

I did not mean to do this

Everyone this is Islandmoms pirate
So, you get a pirate --- even when you're not trying? :rotfl2:
Now I know what they mean by Helenitis. ;)

wow I just noticed my countdown
1 month 3 weeks and 4 days

:woohoo:

I'm still so excited!! :woohoo:

I FINALLY found out how to actually get a pirate.....now there's no stopping me.
Pssst... yes there is... you just didn't know it. :lmao: Keep trying, though, and you will get your pirate: or Jack - however you want to call it.

Sure we'll have to look at the navigators for the time before we leave so we can all book it
winotracy said she would post her navigators, so we'll be able to see what is being offered.

The Net Nanny program on our computer just blocked this site due to mention of alcohol....yikes again.
:rotfl:

Ok, since we're talking about pirates, which Pirates of the Caribbean movie did everyone like best? My vote is for the first one. My 12 year old son's is for the third one. My daughter is for any one with Capt. Barbosa, a bit worrying for future boyfriend choices.
My favorite is Number 1. It was just so original - loved it. I also like #3, though. There were so many twists and turns. My ds hasn't seen it yet, and we're planning on seeing it this afternoon before he starts getting spoilers so he can enjoy it. I'm thinking Downtown Disney. I love those theaters ... :)

Also, don't feel bad on the pirate: , many of us have stooped as low or lower to achieve one.
I've seen this -- just terrible. :rolleyes1

Next, whoever asked about the images. If you have photobucket then your hard work is almost done. My dd showed me how but I have since shortcutted it to this:

Once you open your account and posted pictures and have it saved in your album, you notice the 3 lines with the url addresses below it? The ones right below the picture?

One is: URL Link:
Next is: HTML Tag:
Next is: IMG Code:

Well you can click on either of the last 2 HTML or the IMG code - I use the last one - IMG code - right click on it or "copy" it then when you go to DIS and post - just insert it in the post by right-clicking and you already have it all copied and it is inserted and correctly written. It is the not the correct way of doing it but it works for me.
I think for the DIS you'll need to do the last one - Img Code because html tags don't work on the DIS - I think.

Don't worry about it! It will just remind everyone of someone else......Helen:confused3 :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:
You're so bad (true, but bad)

Well, I probably won't be back on again until tomorrow evening - will need to leave time for another 10 pages or so!!:surfweb:
We'll try & make it more. Have a good Sunday.

Hi,

I copied this from another thread incase anyone missed it

Barcelona Port Information (telephones, Taxis, Shipping, Etc.)

TAXIS-You can easily take taxis from the port to the airport, however, be aware that the taxis are SMALL and you get charged a surcharge for extra baggage. However, I would still recommend taking a taxi versus the bus because you get dropped right in front of the terminal. Buses were going to terminal B and Delta and Air France are in terminal A. There are no porters anywhere that I could see and you have to schlep your luggage all on your own and with the construction mess they have going on there, it is an eventful journey! Cost for the taxi was 20 Euros and then we got a 9 Euro surcharge for the extra baggage. Just remember-you will need to be patient at the curb because there were tons of people and it took 15 minutes or so for us to get to the front of the line. Also, our porter hauled the luggage out to the taxi line for us, but then while we were in line, I guess it was their break time, so all the porters just dumped everyone's luggage and left so you had to move it up in line yourselves! Taxi time to airport is no more than 15 minutes or so. Also, there were a few taxi vans, but they were few and far between. There were only 2 of us, so he put our excess luggage in the front seat with him and then we held out camera case and my carry on in the back seat with me.

This is the full thread
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1470805

Now I'm sorry I booked DCL return to the airport. I was thinking that it would be easier than a taxi since we're going that way to rent a car, but it looks like a taxi is the way to go.

OMG You guys. I'm so terribly embarrassed that I just want to curl up in a ball and cry. I totally forgot to pay something that I won on an auction site and today I just realized that I did this. I went to pay and offer my sincerest apologies but I got this very not so nice letter from the seller. I understand her point of view and am deeply deeply embarrassed that this happened. I also apologized and hoped that she would accept my payment. OMG! :sad1: I know that I did wrong but oh lordy! wish I could turn back time.

Please someone out there, tell me this has happened to others. I am sitting here in tears and can't stop it. I know this is silly but I hate the thought that people out there think I am not a person of my word.

Someone quick please tell me something nice so that I don't go all depressed and all. I have so much to look forward too and so much to be thankful for but these dark moments have been coming much too much lately.

OK - I will try and get off my soapbox for a while - maybe some fresh air will help. I will attempt to take the dogs for a walk in the hopes that this will help me rise out of this place. And hopefully I will come back to some encouraging words of wisdom from my friends here.

I'm sorry, but it seems to me that the seller was a jerk.
If you're a seller, and someone doesn't pay, you send out a friendly reminder before getting nasty (and nasty includes trying to guilt out the buyer).
And if you get a polite apology with payment, the correct response is "I understand, I sometimes forget things also - thanks for remembering and for your kind note".

Everyone blows it on occasion (and we tend to dwell on those failures far more than our successes - odd, isn't it?). In any relationship (business or otherwise) you have to assume that the other person is sometimes going to make mistakes. The measure of their character isn't in the mistakes, but in the way they handle them. If they apologize and try to make it right, and accept your apologies when it's your turn to screw up, they're the kind of people you want to keep around - and the kind of people whose opinion you might want to pay attention to.

But someone who sends an unpleasant note in response to an apology, or loads on the guilt - that's not someone whose opinon of you is worth caring about (though of course it's hard to avoid caring anyway - another odd thing, isn't it?).

Don't beat yourself up because you're dealing with someone who lacks decency.

Laura, I think Dan said it well. You were honorable in trying to fix a simple mistake. The other person simply wasn't. Maybe he/she was burned in the past, and doesn't recognize sincerity, but you can only be responsible for how you respond - not anyone else. :grouphug: We believe you.

Hi, I saw on page one that islandmom3, that's me, is listed as unknown for dinner time. We're on the early shift ( 3 hungry kids.) We're also staying on deck 5. If we could be put on the list for the early time I would be ever so thankful! Thanks for keeping us with all of us!
Penny:butterfly

Also added you to the excel list.

Andrew - if you would like, you can use the excel as a reference for updating your first page. Also, the special dinners and shows have been posted a few times - it would be great if you could add that info, too.

I've updated the cabin layout on powerpoint with the info I have so far.
http://www.maryjomellado.com/MedCabins.ppt

Also, here is the list in Excel of cruisers - we're up to 247 people, and I know that is not counting everyone.

Calendar in powerpoint if you'd find it useful

We are not going to the West Coast in 2008........it was our least favorite DCL trip, we would be up for a Caribbean in 2008 but now we only have Wonder trips as options...............I would book Panama but as a teacher, I can't go when the two trips are offered...............it's getting harder to book so far in advance!!

Oh well, at least we have this summer to look forward to!!!!:thumbsup2

This is in reply to a very old posting that I just read, better late than never, but if any or all of the group does come to the Western Caribbean I promise a great day in Grand Cayman:banana:

I loved the grand Cayman we did the DCL tour, Stingrays, Hell, beach and the turtle farm, DS Stephen was young held a turtle for a while and then... droped it, poor turtle had a headache.

Hi to everyone going on the Disney Magic 28th July, we have just booked yesterday and cant wait!!
Have just finished reading all your postings and its interesting to see how many holidays people go on!! especially Andrew(do you ever have time for work)!!

If any one has any good tips( we have 2 children aged 11 and 8) or can recommend a good hotel in Barcelona as we fly out 2 days early it would be great to hear from you.

Paul.

Paul, Firstly welcome.

Hotel, I searched a lot around many hotels but only one offered Family suites and I went for that, its the Hotel Crystal palace set in a very good location central just off La Rambla.

Cruise vs Parks, In my opinion they are completely two separate things.

Both are Disney so yes Disney service, like their deluxe resorts, and Disney Entertainment their shows, are in common great quality and the Characters.

But no rides, a strict schedule.

I have cruised many times before, DCL 's entertainment is better than most, its service is very very high, if there is something its average at, its the Food, its good and theres lots of it, but other Cruise lines are as good as if not better, however DCL's food is on par with the very best WDW restaurants

There is so much to do you will not be able to, 'not' enjoy it. Sea days the Navigators will show Lots of things going on, take a highlighter pen, maybe if more of you are going different colors, and as soon as you get the Navigator in the evening, highlight what you want to do or you will miss it.

I think on these port intensive Med cruises the sea days will be much needed rest days.

The shows are great, don't miss if they have speakers from Disney, such as Don Ducky Williams go he is great and can be missed if you are not looking at the Navigator.

My Kids the same ages as yours cannot be pulled out of the kids club or pools they love it and the flexibility of getting their own food etc.

Look for Med Navigators People will start posting them soon and look out for things.

The Crew talent show is often overlooked but is great, if you see it highlight it.

The fun will start automatically and you will not be able to not enjoy it, the best advice is to stay in control by planning in advance what you wish to do, I booked my private tours and made my plans well in advance to ensure I did not miss anything.

I will look out for Med Navigators and make plans from that, keep reading here as we can all share on these, and also go to the Dis meets Helen and others are organizing.
