July 26...who's coming with me???

Dawn,

Sorry to hear about MIL and grandmaw. I was really looking forward to meeting the parasailing grandmaw.

So your DH is also in IT. I'm sure its the IT humor. Sometimes we have to laugh at ourselves when it's 2 in the morning, your brain is fried and you just can't figure out what's wrong. And those calls never seem to come at a good time.

Dawn...so sorry to hear about your MIL. Guess you have a built in excuse to go on another DCL when she is feeling better!!

Soccemom...I plan on brining all my stuff clean but not ironed. As soon as I meet my Room Host I will ask for the stuff to be pressed. I heard it is 1/2 the price of dry cleaning. Then no ironing for me. I just remember last time the line was long and the room was hot!!

DD has already packed, I on the other hand am still shopping!!!

So much to do, so little time (THANK GOD!!!!!!!!!).

Anbody ever use that Downy wrinkle remover? It looks like a fabric softener too. I thought I saw a spray too. Anybody try any of these to reduce wrinkled clothes from the suitcase?
I use the Ziploc bags and they do prevent wrinkles in some clothes.
Kerri

I was also wondering about the Downey wrinkle remover, KerriL. Think I'll bring one to try. My SIL just lent me several bags that you pack & squeeze out all the air from (some type of 1-way valve system which allows for compressing the clothes). Anyone have experiences with these to save on the space in the suitcases?

Also, anyone use a car luggage carrier (if that is the correct name) on top of their vehicle for suitcases? DH & I think we'll never fit the 5 of us, plus suitcases for 2 weeks, comfortably into our van. If you have used these, do you use the soft-sided type or the hard shell type? And have you rented or do you own? thanks a lot for any advice--it's getting so close now, I need to have my arrangements all set!! ;) We leave on Wed. to drive to Florida--want lots of time for breaks from driving, site-seeing, etc. and arrive early on Friday at the Radisson.

Penny
Coleman makes those bags and they are available in the camping section of Target. They look like they would work well. They were just advertised on a commercial a few minutes ago. And they compress down to almost nothing.
I do fine with the 2 1/2 gal. Ziploc bags. Just need to buy a few more.
We still don't know how we're gonna fit all the suitcases in the rental car. The kids need to use regular size luggage now that their clothes are almost the same size as my husband's and mine!
We've got 4 large suitcases, a garment bag and various carry-ons.
Never used the carrier, so sorry I can't help. But we may need one!
Kerri

Penny,

We have have on of the soft-sided car top carriers. It's amazing how much stuff you can put in them. Just remember that they are water resistant NOT waterproof. So don' put anything in them that can't get wet. Also make sure you spray it with that waterproofing stuff.

Safe travels to everyone. Especially Hilltop family, coming all the way from Nebraska. You are much braver then me.

I know it's a long way off but I just saw the news that a tropical depression has formed in the Atlantic and is forecasted to be a minimal hurricane by Tuesday just south of the islands we are to visit next week. If it follows the forecast, we should be fine. If not, I don't even want to think about it. So, now it's time to say a few extra prayers that Mother Nature doesn't mess around with our plans - plans we have had for a year or more. And while you are at it, say a few extra prayers that the storm does not enter the Gulf of Mexico either. That would be quite a distraction for those of us on vacation with a storm approaching our area back home. Always something to worry about. So let's have a few reassuring posts that everything will be fine. Right?

VOLLEYBALL:

Everything is going to be great!!!!:smooth: :smooth: :smooth:
How can it not be? It's a DISNEY cruise for goodness sake and everyone knows that things always go smoothly at Disney, right?

Oh by the way, Downy Wrinkle Releaser Spray works pretty well. It doesn't take the place of ironing (darn it!), but for a 60%/40% cotton blend it makes a nice difference. 100% comes out well also depending on how bad the shirt looks to begin with.;) Did someone mention a pressing service?

KerriL:

OK, I'm stupid. How do you use the Zip-loc bags to prevent wrinkles?

:( Cheryl

Cheryl,
If the bags are filled to capacity, with the clothes folded very neatly and you press all the air out of them, they don't shift around in the suitcase and they stay pretty wrinkle free. I'm not talking about linen or dressy clothes here! I mean that would require a touch-up with an iron. But most of my clothes came out of the bags in pretty good shape. I'm not much of an ironer...I run down to the basement as soon as the dryer finishes and pluck the clothes out of there in a hurry!
Kerri

soccermom.....i was told that the prices for dry cleaning are about the same at the average dry cleaning store and that pressing is 1/2 the price of dry cleaning. I have a bunch of stuff to that need to be dry cleaned and thinking of just taking it dirty and having it done onboard, then I don't have to worry if it gets wrinkled. Are you in a suite that you get concerige service....you may get free pressing if you are. I know on holland america that is one of their perks.

If anybody is going to be in cocoa beach the thursday night before the cruise there is a stargazing festival there that night with live bands. Sounded fun...I can get more info out of the paper if anybody wants it.

REF TO THE HURRICANE: I hope it goes away...mostly because my DD is in Jamaica with her dad (my ex) this week and flys home on Friday. I will freak out if she can't fly home or is delayed. At this point I am trying to pretend it's not a threat!!!!!!!

Only five more miserable days in my office..........

I haven't been here in a while, but the cruise is so close, I had to see what was up! We are all so excited!! I will be REALLY excited when we arrive and the drive is behind us!!

I know the weather is going to cooperate! I don't want to jinks anything, but I have never been on vacation and not had grat weather!! Cross your fingers!

Hope to get to meet some of you next week, I guess we'll go around chanting our names until someone says, I KNOW YOU!!
(sort of) I don't have green mickeys or anything!! I do wear a black coverup and will probably have it n at the sail away!! It'd not like a black cover up is very common! lol

Everyone have a safe trip to the ship!!

MagicMouseketeers: thanks for the nice words about the drive BUT NO NEED TO WORRY! :p
We got the TV/VCR player 3 days ago via UPS (just when I was sweating the thought of it not arriving in time!) I was afraid some of us wouldn't arrive in Florida ALIVE after our long drive if TV/VCR didn't get here.

More about the luggage carrier--we have definately decided we want the "hard" shell style but can you believe our Walmart & Sears are both out of them!! Drat! I'll be searching high and low tomorrow in this town.

MBFergie: hope weather cooperates & doesn't keep you awake worrying about Elizabeth's safety in Jamaica.

Everyone else--so excited to get on that ship and take it all in. Eager to meet all you nice folks also. P.S. Got 3 boxes of Bonine ready to go! (and 1 box No-Doz for driving ;) )

If you wear the "I am the bald guy" t-shirt, we won't have any trouble meeting everyone...we'll just look for you!

Bald Guy T-shirts: I am sure that if such a t-shirt exists it will draw a crowd. I just hope it doesn't detract from the Sail Away Party. So let me get this straight. Are we now meeting around the Bald Guy or at the Deck Party?!? Take it from me - both should be lots of fun. The alcohol is packed buddy!

Tropical Weather: Thank you God! Things seem to be working out for the time being. Let's hope it keeps up and there are smooth seas and clear skies ahead - and that the Gulf Coast remains out of danger next week too.

My Relatives: Just wanted to say hello to my DSIL and DBIL (both of whom are, in fact, just-for-the-heck-of-it volleyball players). Just a few more days and you are stuck with me for a week on a boat. And this is for you my DSIL - :Pinkbounc

The Shirt is made and my DW just packed it. It has one of the ugliest pictures you have ever seen of me "The Bald Guy" and it says "I am the Bald Guy". I just hope I have the courage to wear it.

You should have seen my DS's face when he saw it. I hope the poor kid isn't scard for life after this.:jester:

Oh, and Joey, AKA VollleyballNDisney dosen't know it yet but he will be wearing a shirt that says "I am friends with the bald guy". Which he may not be after we make him wear this shirt.

Dawn,

It sounds like DH and VollleyballNDisney will be the symbols for the DIS meet.

BTW Matt was going to send one last e-mail to Christopher. However, he went off to 4H camp without sending it.

PS DW wants me to wear a T-shirt saying I'm the grey haired guy
