Looks like this group is going to be a true mixture of Disboards and FB....have to admit I prefer FB only because it is so much easier to check updates rather than reading through several pages, but we will go with the flow...and Deb, we do not envy you having to end the FB 1 v 2 debate, but hopefully, this will work itself out into one group (noting that since the other group is "open", a good portion of group 2 is also in group 1 anyway so there really is no need for multiple groups).

Seriously, as I mentioned before, we saw this happen a few years ago on Disboards where there were ultimately 3 threads for the same cruise and way too much venom between some members of each. If a group of friends/fellow cruisers want their own private FB group, that should be separate from the main one. I can say that we have been part of such a group for several years, but we keep it apart from any specific cruise. As can be seen from our signature, we did Thanksgiving 9 years in a row, and traveled multiple times with many of the same people. As a result we have become friends outside of the cruise world leading to the cruise related FB group, but we always join the thread/FB group of any cruise any of us take whether together or individually.

Thus, I will suggest just this one more time that those from Group 2 consider joining Group 1 for purposes of this cruise, and, perhaps create their own separate page for the group of friends.

Hello Baltic Cruisers!

We are booked on this cruise and would like to be added to roll call. It is myself Tricia, Keith DH, Ashley DD (16), Jamie DD (13), Kiley DD (10) (ages at cruise time). We are so excited and can't wait! I was up at 4am PST to get my spot!

I would like to do FE but no more than 20 people. Too much luggage!

Rick Steves' son is one of my clients. He has his own touring business that runs European tours for college students. He's agreed to work with me to come up with touring ideas for our ports of call. I'll be sure to share whatever I learn from him.

I agree with Kim. I like Rick Steves' walking tour podcasts. I used a few of them on our Med cruise.

I love Rick Steves, we were able to get free breakfast at a hotel we stayed at in Paris a few years ago, because of him.

I agree with one FB group. I belong to two secret FB groups, that use to be one, and it is pain deciding which one to post, since most people are in both, I usually just choose one.
I joined the first one FB group for the cruise since it was the first one that was posted in this thread. I really look forward to getting to know, and eventually meeting everyone, because so far we have a pretty cool group. :)

Wow! That is great! I have been using Rick Steves guides and tips for years. I am looking forward to hearing some of his personal recommendations!

Of course, his first recommendation was "buy my Dad's Northern Europe cruise guide book". :lmao:

Maybe we need a cruise nickname? it was Baltic Ballyhoo in 2010 and I organised the Baltic Ballyhoo Bus.....

Yes! Let's definitely make up a cruise nickname! :yay: I've seen some very clever names and graphics! :) Our 2010 Baltic cruise was called "From Pounds to Rubles" and our graphic was a row of each country's flag and then Mickey dressed like a Viking, sword in hand, standing on the bow of a Viking ship.

Paul, would you be willing to head this up? Maybe take suggestions and then a vote?

I'd love to have a nickname, but I'm not very good at thinking of them. Here's my suggestion:

Great idea! I am not usually very creative but I will put my thinking cap on... or ask DS. He can be creative and I know he will be motivated by the Cadbury bar :hyper:

Like many of you, we're planning to spend a couple of days in London before the cruise. Last time we were there, we rode the Hop-on-Hop-off bus for a few hours to get acclimated to the area, then we randomly walked all over town to sight-see. Does anyone know if there's a "Walking Tour of London" brochure or map that we could do this time?

To be honest there are maps everywhere but buy a good London book and pla, why not try our Boris bikes and cycle around!

Hi all! I'm relatively new to the DIS boards and FB group pages, so I thought I could ask you all how it works. I did one last year from the Med where I met people on here and then joined the FB group, but also met wonderful people that weren't on the DIS boards. Is it normal for the group to be Secret and not Closed? I'm just concerned that it is limiting the "main" FB Page to only DISers and not the other hundreds of people that may want to join a group on our cruise. Even if all the people from group 2 join group 1, there will still end up being another FB page from interested cruisers not familiar with DIS, as was I less than a year ago. I'm just trying to understand if the Secret FB page ("main") is only open to DISers because no one else will be able to find it? Thanks for any clarification!! :-)
