Please add us to the list DH, DW, and DD15 & DD12. We are currently planning our trip to be in London for 4 days and Dover for 2 days. Researching hotels vs. vacation rentals. We were in the UK last year on our way back from the MedCruise 2013 and found that the Tube was a great way to get around especially the double decker bus. Looking forward to seeing everyone!

Welcome.

We'd like to see the stonehenge, but does anyone know if it is far from London and whether they have anything else of interest in that vicinity?

Stonehenge is doable there are trips that can be booked but it's a long journey, Windsor for example is far closer.

We are Chuck, Lisa and Mason (15 at time of sailing). We booked this cruise while on board the Fantasy last week right at 8am when the desk opened for Platinum/Gold, and the rebooking lines were very long for the new itineraries. I have PM'd for FB access. We will also want to participate in FE . Chuck

Welcome.

We are joining you on this cruise.

Jon, Maria and Lauren (15)

We are staying on for the Dover to Barcelona 7 night just to make sure I get a tan!! :rotfl:

Jon.

JON,

As you know we are doing the same two cruises as you...Idea for travel that may work for you, drive to our house in Reading leave the car take the party coach to Dover then fly back to Heathrow from Barcelona (share our private Viano home) pick up car (25mins from LHR) and off home you go....just an idea:cool1:

Coach to Dover Update....

Have initial price, but I will squeeze more out of them, which I will use to buy drinks, nibbles & candy for the passengers. I am going to set the price at £20 (roughly $30) per person for the trip to Dover from London.

Let Celestine or I know by PM if you haven't already registered an interest.:thumbsup2

Thank you both for arranging this! But, do you mean London to Dover?

Just to add, that's a great price,

To all reading, Paul did this in 2010 and you can trust him to deliver on this, it's a great deal, lots of Baltic cruisers appreciated his help, And Dover is a funny place, the rail Stn isn't close and the pier is down a busy road.

Anyone staying in London pre cruise this is a massive help!

The only reason we didn't / will not use as I am nearly closer to Dover by road than Central London.

I second Bath and Avebury! I was in Melksham for work a few summers ago and people at the company I was working with highly recommended Avebury instead of Stonehenge. Not that you have to pick one or the other if the tour does both, but I didn't have time to do both since the primary focus of my visit was business. But Avebury was a closer drive and I was told I could get closer to the stones and touch them. On the way back from Avebury I stopped at Lacock which was a cute little village and used in some of the Harry Potter films. If I remember correctly, the Lacock Abbey was the the inspiration for Hogwarts and they filmed some shots there as well.

I also got to visit Bath on my journey from Manchester to Melksham. I really enjoyed Bath. It was nothing like I have seen before. The history is so interesting to me, especially growing up in a country whose history does not go back nearly as far. I am certainly not the expert as I am from the U.S., but that's the little bit I know :).

I am looking forward to more tips from the experts! The planning is almost as fun as the trip itself! :goodvibes

Hi Kim

Lacock is a great suggestion, we live just a few miles from there. Lacock Abbey was used for filming interior Hogwarts scenes, see if you recognise them on this site here Lacock_Abbey

In those pictures you can also see the tower which was an original location for the Doomsday book. The village is a real chocolate box village, unspoilt by modern development and often used in period filming. Here are some pictures of the village during filming Lacock pictures on BBC

We watched the filming of the snow scenes, which was odd in the Summer!

Working on Private transfer rates for to and from airports to hotels, to port or day trips etc... an idea that may work for Dissers is to work amongst yourselves for day trips etc...

For example if a few families want to merge: I can arrange a private Mercedes Viano (7 seater) vehicle with professional chauffeur for a day (8hrs) trip from London Hotel - Stonehenge - Bath - London Hotel for £400 ($660) or $94 per head. This will be far more enjoyable/faster than the train or tourist coach trip.

On Stonehenge..I spoke to my contact today and he said most American tourists he takes there spend about ten minutes and I quote say "gee, they are just tall rocks" I suppose that is better than the Windsor Castle statement "nice castle, shame they built it so close to the airport" :rotfl2:

Sounds like a plan Paul. :)

We have have flown Easyjet to Gatwick and BA to Heathrow. BA to T5 was the easiest but I guess it depends on price.

Should be reasonable as it's just one way.

If it's a really early start from yours we can book into a local hotel the night before.

Cheers
Jon

Is there no end to your talents! Day job, Logistics transfers, tourist trips, and now you have Tony Blackburn's joke book and think my jokes are bad.

I know some tourists that went to Windsor got lost and thought it was all made of Lego, last time I was working there I was stopped and asked when does the Queen come out, during the band playing in the high street at 11.

Uses less fact they block post boxes there for security!

I think those prices are good value, Windsor is easy to get to Paddington to Windsor changing at Slough for the shuttle takes about 40 mins if you time the shuttle right.

I can see how that can confuse some people:confused3...I said Dover from London, so yes London to Dover works as well:thumbsup2

Doh! So much for my critical reading skills. ;)

I'd be interested in the Stonehenge/Bath private tour. There are 3 of us, so a family of 4 with teen/tween kids would probably be a good match to share the tour.

Even easier from Waterloo straight there....

Even easier from Waterloo straight there....

True but a very very slow line via Staines and recently underwater.

Will add circa 30 mins from London.

I go to Windsor a couple of times a month and go via fast train non stop to Slough, do it's just two stops overall.

That's very kind, looks like we are trying to stretch it out to a 3 week break. ;)

I am sure our good ladies can sort out some of the finer details.. Everything will be organised by May. :rotfl:
