July 21, 2014 7 Night Alaska

My two daughters, my 13 year old grandson, and I are sailing on the 21st. We had planned our trip for last summer but had to postpone. We plan to fly to Seattle and take the train to Vancouver on Sat and sightsee for a couple of days. One excursion that we are hoping to do is the Neets Bay bear floatplane.

I would be interested in a Facebook group. Please let me know if one is set up. We have not decided on doing an FE yet.

First, Karrie, I'd like to extend my condolences to you on the loss of your father. My own dad passed away in June (had been dx with cancer but died rather suddenly 2 months after diagnosis), so I can relate. Actually, this trip is kind of in his and my mom's memory since they kept talking about doing an Alaska cruise but didn't ever get around to it.

This will be my family's 2nd Disney cruise, also on the Wonder. I have 3 children, Josh (14), Jessie (12) and Jacob (9). My brother is sailing with us and it is his family's first time with DCL.

We participated in the FE exchange on our last cruise and would like to participate again on this cruise -- I'm hoping it's not too late. I told my brother they need to join the group, too -- not sure if they'll participate or not. I'm going to send him the link to this group.

So excited!

Hello to all the new members of the group! So sorry to have not been around - unfortunately two days after I last posted my father died (after a long illness but very suddenly in the end) so it's been a difficult few months to say the least. :sad1:

Much better now and looking forward again. :)

We've actually just today booked a cruise before this one - Christmas on the Dream!! :woohoo: So we've now got 2 fantastic cruises to look forward to.

I don't think the FE planning has begun - so if you like I'm happy to organize it? Please either PM or email me your cabin number, names, ages of children and also if you have any food allergies in case anyone is planning food gifts. Oh and Castaway Cay level if you don't mind - I have an idea for FE gifts... My email address is karen@bracegirdle.uk.net . Speak soon! :thumbsup2

We live in Southern California and haven't booked our tickets yet for this cruise. I have several fare alerts going, but it seems like flying to Seattle is cheaper. We have two young kids though, so I'm not sure if it is worth the hassle of flying into Seattle and then taking the train (is it Amtrak?) Has anyone done this? How long is the train ride? Is the airport and train station in Seattle relatively close?

Thanks in advance for any info :)

Hello! Just joined disboards today. We are booked for the 7/21 Alaskan Cruise as well. My mom, husband, me, two kids (2,3), and my brother/wife and kids (17, 16, 14, and 8). Was there a fb group that got started? Also, how do I get on our specific group for this cruise? Thanks. Holly

We are thinking about taking the train up from Seattle, too. It looks like it would be much less expensive than renting a car and either dropping it off in Vancouver or parking for the week. I would check Amtrak's website -- I want to say that it is 3 1/2 - 4 hours.

Thanks, Terrich. I just checked Amtrak and it looks like it's 4 hours by train and about 3.5 by bus. The downside with the train is the times for the dates that we want (we wanted to spend a couple of days in Vancouver before the trip and we have hotel reservations for the 19th and 20th). The times are 7:40 a.m. arrive at 11:40, 6:50 p.m. arrive at 10:50, and 9:30 p.m. arrive 12:30 a.m.

The bust times seem much better, but there's a note saying "no checked baggage." I'm pretty sure we are going to have some large suitcases as we are traveling as a big group, so I don't think that will be an option either.

Looks like we are prob going to book flights straight to Vancouver which is going to eat up some of our excursion funds.

Hi! We are on the Disney Wonder Cruise for July 21st! We can't wait. If there is anyone starting an FE for this cruise our family would love to participate!
Thanks! :wave2:

Do you have a Facebook page started for the FE for the cruise? Our family wants to participate!

My husband and I are going on this cruise alone. We have been on two other Disney cruises with our girls (ages 20 and 25) but thought it would be nice to enjoy Alaska on our own. Can't wait-I need to pay attention to airfare and think about excursions.

We have a large group going on this cruise and were able to get Pan Pacific last night through Hotwire for $160 before tax. Pretty excited to have that hotel.

My family of 5(DS8,DD6,DD2), sister in law, brother in law , their three kids, and my mother and father in law are going on our first cruise to celebrate my in laws 50th wedding anniversary ! We are excited but being our first cruise I am just now finding out about this board and fun things to do like the fish extenders. How do I get involved with that? My kids would love to do that! Thanks for the info!

Hi to everyone that is new to our cruise!

For those who have mentioned the FE, I think there was a post on the previous page from Karriemouse who volunteered to organize it.

Karriemouse--I sent you my info via email several weeks ago--did you receive it? Let me know if you would like any help--I'm currently organizing the FE for our Bahamas cruise in March. If you didn't receive my email, please let me know and I will resend.

Thanks!

Hi everyone, just been updating the FE spreadsheet! So far we have seven families:
love280mickey
terrich
Apsychmommy
terrich's brother's family
Maxharl
karriemouse
One other whose Dis name I don't know - I will check on that

If you would like to join the FE please send me your details here or to karen@bracegirdle.uk.net. Similarly if I have missed anyone off, please let me know.

Several people have asked about a Facebook group, is this something we want to do?

It's only 5 months now!

I would love to have a facebook group.

Karen,

JoniC (a few comments above this) is my SIL. So you can replace "terrich's brother's family" with "JoniC"

Thanks!

I just sent an email for the FE and a Facebook page would be great! I'm on there much more than here. Thanks!!!

Hi, everyone,

I just went ahead and started a facebook group for our cruise. I made it a closed group to protect our privacy, but since people can see that it exists (they just can't see posts or pictures unless they are in the group), I did not put our sail dates in the name. (I know I don't like to advertise when I'm going to be out of town). If you would like to join, send me your email address and I will send you an invite.

My email address is hurst10@bellsouth.net.

Thanks!

Great, thank you, I will update the spreadsheet. It's always good to put 'real' names to Dis names!!
