Hi, Welcome to the boards.:goodvibes The FE is basically, gifts given from one cabin to another and placed in a pocket type holder, that hangs from the Fish outside your cabin. Gifts can be for the whole cabin, or individuals, it really is up to you. Personally, I usually give a gift for the adults between them and something for the children, which may be age appropriate. However, it is up to you and those in the other cabins.

If you do a search on the boards for Fish Extenders, you will find plenty of information on making one and the sorts of gifts that have been given. I will hold off adding you for the moment, so you can liaise with your party and have a think about it before committing. You may like to get to know everyone on this thread a little bit too. :thumbsup2

Hi all! I just wanted to pop in and introduce myself. My fiancé and I will be on the 7/20 sailing for our honeymoon! I may be back with a few (probably random) questions, but I thought it would be nice to make some friends who will be on our cruise, too. One thing we're discovering is that there are a couple of ports where he might be more content to sit by the pool while I go exploring, so I may be looking for some shore excursion buddies!

Anyone else out there from the Chicago area?

I'm a fairly experienced Disney cruiser, but this is my first foray onto the Disboards. My fiancé has never been on the Disney ships before so I can't wait to show him the magic of the Magic!

Oh, one question I do have right off the top regarding insurance. I purchased the Disney insurance because my (admittedly limited) research told me that no one covers pre-existing conditions. Does anyone know if there is "supplemental" travel insurance I can buy that would cover pre-existing conditions? Or am I too late since I've made my final payment?

Less than 90 days until we sail!!

~Amy :bride:

Welcome Amy and congratulations - what a honeymoon! Sorry I can't help you with insurance, I think things are different in the UK, we don't travel without insurance ever!!! However, my sister has a pre-existing heart condition and she seems to be able to get specialist insurance for that to cover her trips to WDW and other places, so I would suggest to do some searches on the internet. From my understanding, you can buy insurance at anytime, up until the date you travel.

Hi K8T:

We'd like to join the FE, if that's ok:

Let me know if you need more information. Thanks!

Cegs, I will add you to the list, I did get your message, but I have been a bit busy and not had chance to post much recently!

Kate - Just noticed that our cabin number is missing from the FE list - it's 6040. I need to get organized on the FE gifts shortly...

What is everyone doing for Palermo? We just can't seem to agree on anything, and don't know if we will book a Disney tour or go on our own.

Happily have joined up with Cathleen (Cegs27) for a private tour in Rome, and think we will do Herculaneum on our own. I'm also trying to convince the Hubs to wing it for La Spezia - I think after Rome and Naples, my kids will need a break.

Not too stressed about the other ports, think we will be fine on our own - it's just Palermo that I can't sort out!

Then again, my head is already spinning. Have my MIL coming at the end of this month, then we are moving 2 weeks after. Forcing myself to be completely unpacked by the end of July just so I can recover in time for the cruise!:rotfl:

Cabin number noted.:thumbsup2

We are not sure about Palermo either. Keep meanin to check out the cruise critic boards and see what goes, they are usually very informative.

Malta is really easy on your own, taxis in abundance if you don't fancy the buses (which are everwhere). We fancy the Schooner Trip, although we don't ever do ships tours, everyone said how fantastic it was last year and to be honest I just wanted to dive into the water when I saw it!. Not sure it will be available for our dates, I can't seem to find the information on the dates, yet I am sure I read somewhere that it wasn't available on our cruise!

Not too worried about being a target, we were on a huge Celebrity ship, moored outside Haifa on the way to Jerusalem several years ago. There had been a number of 'incidents' in the region and Madeline Albright (US Sec. of State at the time), was advising everyone not to travel to the area!! The situtaion was so bad that we had to moor in the industrial docks and divers were patrolling and checking the ship out continuously. I am sure that there are bigger targets than a bunch of Disers!!!!

What did make me laugh on the above situation, was that we were told not to do any independent travel, yet ended up on a tour around Bethlehem, with a huge group of US citizens and the tour guide holding a huge paddle with 'Celebrity Cruise Line' written on it. My other half said they should have just had a sign that said 'shoot here!'

Pleased to say that we made in in and out alright and now it has become a tale for the dinner table.

Anyone done any research on Cinque Terre. We are still thinking about that for Villefranche.

I promise I will update the list as soon as. Is everyone happy if we close it at the end of June, which gives everyone time to sort things out? Also, how large can people manage?, at what stage would everyone prefer to split it out?

Jill, I know you had a HUGE one on your Christmas cruise, was it horrendous?

Hi K8T - Thanks for adding us. I think closing it the end of June is fine, you could even make it June 20 to give a month before the cruise to get our gifts sorted out.

(Personally, my daughter's 5th birthday is June 20, I'm matron of honor in a wedding June 25, and we move from NYC to DC July 1 so that month before the cruise will be busy for me!)

Also, just to share a little information that a friend who lived in Villefranche sent me (more geared towards touring with a child, but may be helpful overall):

I can recommend two playgrounds to visit during your cruise. We lived in Villefranche in 2009-2010, our apartment overlooking the harbor where we saw the Disney ship regularly. If you want to see Monaco, the ultimate fairy-tale land, walk from the harbor to the main street where you will find the bus stop. For one euro you can ride to Monaco, generally about a 20 minute trip. Take the first stop in Monaco, Place des Armes, and follow the crowds uphill to the Palace. As you walk along the palace yard to take in the views, you will see a great little playground overlooking the Mediterranean. I don't recommend going to Nice with a five-year old. I love, love, love Nice, but there's lots more walking involved, the water at the beaches is much rougher, and the only playground that I could recommend (on the castle grounds) is a major uphill hike. If you want to stay in Villefranche, there's a cute playground right in the public gardens, just next to the bus stop. If it's a Saturday, you'll have the advantage of the fruit and vegetable market on site. You'll want to check out the Villefranche old town, which is precisely where the tender will leave you. Have a coke at one of the little restaurants on the harborside. (If you decide to go to the restaurant Trastavere, say hi to the waiters there for us!) The beach at Villefranche -- a quick walk to the right -- has water calm enough for little ones. You will have a ball!

Hello, I am looking at doing the hoho bus in palmero, maybe going to the cattacombs. Has anyone else any experience of this?

June 20th is ok with me. The only thing I am concerned about is our measly luggage allowance! My FE is being lovingly made at the moment. It all seems a lot sooner now 12 weeks today and we will be all aboard.

There have been a couple of changes on the FE list, so here is the updated version.

If anyone would like to be added, or have decided not to do it, then let me know. List will close on 20th June, which will give everyone time to get organised. If the list becomes too big, then a decision may be made to split it into two.

Hi all, here is a link from our last cruise. Also in the "Archives" June 2010, there are various posts from the Magic including all our goodies from the FE exchange Disney Dream Inaugural Cruise.

The FE dates and group look great. I think up to 20 cabins would be manageable. I'm a shopaholic, it is the packing that gets tough. On a 4 night preview cruise, we had 9 cabins. Which was fine for the short cruise. Christmas cruise was 63 cabins, ridiculous! I would have dropped out if it were not for the kids. Last European cruise, was 19 cabins, perfect.

As far as being nervous about safety with all the disarray happening right now, I'm not worried. My cousin is a Marine currently serving on the USS Mesa Verde off the north coast of Africa above Libya. He emailed a photo yesterday of them grilling steaks and playing soccer on deck. A much needed change from Afghanistan! He asked me to send him our itinerary, I'm guessing for amusement he'll be tracking us.

We enjoyed watching your royal wedding. Now it is on the cover of all the magazines here.

Hi Jill,
Good to know! I have purchased the DVC insurance as well as our own travel insurance so we are well covered now and I am really not worried, starting to get so excited! We have a dvc widget on the desktop counting down the days!

hi jill thanks for the link, it makes intersting reading.

As for security, there are so many US, UK and French Naval ships in the Med I think a cruise would be a fairly hard target to get. The French Navy are based in Toulon, not that far from Villefranche, so they'll be plenty of ships to see I would imagine.

I think we need extra luggage allowance for the FE - my wife can't stop buying things and coming up with alternatives (practically every idea she sees on these boards she wants to do!)

If customs open our bags I reckon they will think we are opening a shop on board!

Since I'm a first time cruiser I don't get to book excursions, Palo's, Flounder's Reef, etc until tomorrow.
Or May 6th.
Can anyone tell me what time? I'm in Los Angeles.
Thanks I'm super excited to go on this trip even if all the guidebooks I've been reading say to avoid the cities in July because of the heat.
Eh, it's been 90 here all week I can handle the heat.

Hi jennx, i am a first time cruiser too. With disney We have been on 5 Royal caribbean cruises thou and are hooked.mi am not sure what time we can book i guess either 9 your time or ours?

Hello Everyone,

I am sailing with you on the July 20th med cruise!! We are beyond excited! It will be myself, my husband, and my 5 year old. Now that we have made the final payment, booked transfers, Hotel, and excursions we are just waiting to set sail!!

For reasons beyond my control, we are flying in the morning of the cruise. So if anyone else is on the Aer Lingus/Spanair flight from IAD let me know.

Happy Planning!!!

DCL is based on Eastern time. Good luck making your bookings, I'm sure there are plenty of great things open. The website is not always the best, so do not think any delays are your computer's fault. :surfweb:

Hi, booking opens at midnight EST on the day of your window, hope you haven't missed it!

Hi, booking opens at midnight EST on the day of your window, hope you haven't missed it!

Good afternoon. I am finally in a push the computor off the desk way :rotfl2::rotfl2: booked for palo. Now just trying to book some excursions:surfweb:

Will be so glad when i can relax!

Also managed to swap someone elses dinner time last week in error - sorry andrea:sad2:

Anyway i will be glad when its All booked - off out for tea tonight to celebrate. Although hope to loose some weight before the cruise so not the best idea. Its always january when i plan a diet and may when i panic and july when i think ahh well theres next year:yay:

Thanks for the heads up everybody! My husband suggested last night that I just check to see if it was open and it was! So I booked a couple of excursions, A Day on the Farm and Nice and Eze with wine tasting.

We're going to do most ports on our own but those sounded good.

Also got a Palo Dinner reservation, although I still want to try for a brunch or high tea. And two evenings of babysitting.

Despite only being able to make our bookings today we managed to get our 2nd choice for Palo :cool1: and book the baby into the nusery. The system did crash a few times but we got there in the end. :surfweb:

Can we not book the kids club online?

We got our Palo reservation (2nd choice as well, yippee); I was able to book the kids into the kids club as well.
