July 20, 2012 -The MAGICAL BIG APPLE

12 nights are the best! We did a 12 night baltic cruise and it was fantastic. If I had to choose between NY and Med I'd drop NY and go to the Med, or try for a 5 day NY cruise and add the extra days to the Med. If you are going to spend all that money on airfare, you might as well get your money's worth.

Is DU your TA? They have really good OBC for this cruise.

$2000 in the scheme of your entire life is not that much. Perhaps you can look at your budget and find ways to economize for the next 18 months.

Yeah. I am trying to come up with a different summer vacation with the family. Might have to take another NCL or RCL. My daughter is looking at very expensive colleges so I get scared spending so much on 2 cruises a year apart.

I booked the 12 night. I keep looking at my husband saying OMG we are going to Greece ALONE. It really is a dream vacation.

Yes we use DU. Got a great OBC considering we booked an 11B. We will go day before and stay 1 extra night on the end. My oldest went to Barcelona 2 years ago and she fell in love with it.

Congrats! I look forward to meeting you. Not sure what we're going to do before or after. Families of 5 are hard to accomodate in Europe. Need to do some investigation.

Sorry to say I had to cancel this cruise :sad2:

So sad about it. Booked the 12 night Med for 2013 and just don't want to spend 10K this summer.

I booked a NCL out of NY to Bermuda instead.

See ya on the Med slg.

I hope you all have a magical time!!!!!!!!!!!

Is this thread still active?

OR is no one going on this cruise. I am so excited and wanted to see if there was any more info on a FE Group for this cruise.

This is the quietest thread I've ever been on. Maybe its a really empty boat and we'll all be upgraded for free:)

I'm still around.

slg - yeah - maybe we will all be upgraded to concierge. Whoo hoo! :rotfl:

I'm still around as well. Although, our cruise party might be down to 3 from 4. DS might fly home after the New York trip portion.

Will be full on New York in about a month. Too busy at work and spring break plans right now.

We're on board! I wonder if slow sales are why there are no Port of New York departures for 2013? I am SO excited about no airfare/airplanes for this!! I can't wait, thinking about this is all that gets me up in the morning.

Our alaska cruise was like that....no planes to catch, no jet lag, no restrictions on suitcase weight and liquids on my carryons. It was heaven. Love to go back just for that reason.

But, New York works for us this year as we live in Victoria BC but my in-laws are in the maritimes so its our year for visiting them and New York is close by and somewhere I've always wanted to go to, so this cruise fits in perfectly. I consider this a cruise to nowhere....5 days at sea, castaway cay, a free ticket to wdw. The only port we have to pay anything for is Nassau! Want to do Atlantis but haven't decided which excursion yet. Have to work on that one soon.

Plan to be on the first bus to WDW and the last bus back!

We did a Nick Jr cruise to the Bahamas 2 years ago and we did Atlantis then -- did the waterpark and swam with the dolphins. Glad we did it once, not sure I'd spend the money to do it twice.

Totally not interested in swimming with the dolphins, but might do the waterpark or the beach. Need to discuss it with family. The waterpark is expensive, but it looks fun, and since the rest of the cruise will be very cheap, we might spring for that one.

Worried it might be too hot though in July.

Welcome aboard Mrsmarilyn.

Understand totally about the no airfare / airport thing as we got to just do a ferry ride last year for Alaska.

We're basically considering it a cruise to nowhere as well. New York is the big excursion portion for us and the cruise is just an added bonus while we are there.

We going to do the Atlantis waterpark in Nassau and the full day WDW - first bus there last one back for us as well. Most likely starting our day at Animal Kingdom and then head over to the Magic Kingdom. We did a July cruise in 2009 - wasn't too bad - just have to be sure you use sun smarts - rash guards for everyone, lots of water, hats , plenty of sunscreen and get in the shade when you've had enough.

This really is the quietest thread! I hope things pick up--or if sales are slow, we all get a discount! :rotfl2:

They will probably make it half price after the paid in full date...just our luck.

I hope I can still go on this cruise. Its been such an up and down year for me. My mother was diagnosed with ovarian cancer last June and only a short time to live, but she survived her surgery and the chemo and is doing really well. Hurrah! However, she got tested for BRCA and guess what? We found out she is BRCA1, which means I have a 50/50 chance too! Now I'm sick and worried and I was tested as well but I won't find out until April.

My biggest fear is that I already have cancer. Apparently with this gene mutation you are likely to have breast cancer before 50 and I am 48.5. Sigh. So, I hope that I can still go. If I have the mutation but no cancer yet, I will have ovarian surgery, but I'll wait until AFTER the cruise because I really want to go.

Wish me luck fellow Disers.

Good luck SLG--that's the sort of year I'm having. There hasn't been one week I have not been in the ER since Christmas, either with my mother or for myself. (My gallbaldder & i broke up finally) Remind yourself that the gene simply means a mathmatical statistic, not a guarantee. You have just as good odds of there being nothing at all wrong. So try to stay focused on that! (Easier said than done, I know!) :thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Good luck with your mom. Mines in the hospital again....

Marilyn

On another topic...having never done a Disney Cruise before...what is the dress code? Do you dress for dinner? Are there costume or theme nights I need to worry about packing for?

We're still going! This is the quietest trip thread I've seen. We don't have very long until our magical cruise!!!

I know I can't believe how quiet it is. I hope things pick up.

So I am curious as to how many of us are going?

I am going with my DH, DD 10 and DS 4.
