My DD did the same, she actually came into hs with 4 credits since she also took PreAp World Geo between 8th and 9th grade summer. I'm not sure how your HS and jr high are, but here she did NOT get the same final the hs did - the jr high teacher wrote his own final. Might end up being a saving grace for you if DS teacher does the same?

The project the kids had to do was write a game in Java using gridworld (the AP case study code) Using that code, they had a major portion already worte. They worked in groups of 2. This group of 2 did more talking/goofing around in class then working for three weeks, so the father complained that his student worked at home for many days straight to get this done (where was the partner?), and yes, the father knew the game did not work properly (it was a game of snake, but the snake NEVER grew, or died correctly). His student had one excuse after the other as to why it did not work...... but the father was sure after hearing that his student worked so hard for several weeks at home, I would understand and raise the grade.

My DD got an 89 for a semester grade in an AP class that she took... I would no sooner think to write the teacher and ask her to bump it up one point... how fair is that to the kids who earned an A in the class....

What are parents thinking? What are they teaching their child?

Ah, see you are being rational - There's the difference between parents believing the kids are given grades rather than earned...

Unfortunately, it'll be at least a departmental final if not a district final - not sure which. Same with Pre-AP Spanish. If all goes well, he'll have 2 1/2 credits. The district has started on-line classes. He could take two classes this summer (Pre-AP World Geo and Health) but we'll be on the cruise during the scheduled on-site final exam. Anyway, with 6 weeks of marching band practice over the course of this summer, I really didn't want to saddle him with more school. Hopefully, he'll still earn the HS credit with a C...We're not sure how all this works...

We're frustrated with his other HS credit course, Career Connections - supposedly a career explorations class. 20% of his grade was to develop a business plan. The rubrix was so detailed, he could have submitted it to the nearest bank for a loan application. :scared1:

DH has an MBA, and he was complaining it was similar to what he put together in school. I have a BA in business, and I know we did the same for our senior project. Anyway, with both of us consulting, on initial read-through the teacher would have given Mike an 85...:lmao: On final submission, we earned a 98 :lmao: Neither of us can see how the 8th grade kids would have been able to complete it without parental involvement.

I took AP Chemistry as a hs sophomore. THe first semester I got an 89.5which translated into a B. No rounding up. :headache:

It was the only B I ever received and that .5% kept me from being valedictorian. :sad2:

But I earned the grade I got, and it really hasn't hurt me in the long run! :flower3: (although I was pretty devastated at the time. :sad1:)

:worship: I was an average student - thankfully, the kids got my husband's brains and love of math and science. DS is finally getting to the point where he can't sail through school and he's going to have to learn how to work. He tries to take the easy way out.

If you are in HISD, yes, it will transfer in as a 2.0 credit. If he can take several PreAP or AP classes, and get A's in them, he can slowly work on the GPA inching upward. It will be a slow process, but it can inch up....

DD does band also - flute.

DD has 4 more days, I have 5 days, then 1 week off, and summer school starts....

We're in Clear Creek ISD - We know the grades won't count(thankfully, if he ends up with a C); neither will anything during the summer or on-line. Just the credits count.. We weren't sure if a "C" will qualify to earn the HS credit as an 8th grader. He'll enter with a clean slate on the GPA...

He's not happy - he's in all Pre-AP/AP classes with the exception of Band and Health next year. He is smart enough to be successful, he just doesn't want to do the work. Or, in the case of Algebra - careless mistakes and really bombed an exam and a quiz...

It'll be a long summer if he earns a C - Dad is threatening to uphold the no electronics until grades are at least a B over the summer. :scared1: Which means, no chance to get them back until the 1st grade report. Pray for Mike that he earns a B in all his classes, otherwise, pray for me - it'll be a long summer!!!

DD does PreAp or AP for everything except English. PreAP had over 10 EXTRA books of reading required this year - with KatyISD seeming to want to play football longer than most districts, I say fine, you don't have to do all that extra reading. Out top two kids have 4.8 and 4.9 out of a 4.0 (yes, I did type 4.0) in the class of 2009 this year - so she will not even have a chance to be in the top 10, but.... I don't have to nag about reading a book....

maybe DarthVader and my DD should hold a mini marchng session while on the ship for all the incoming freshman LOL!

Is anyone else here doing a Back 2 Back on the Magic for this cruise? Our dates are July 18-25 and July 25- Aug 1

Thanks:goodvibes

I've updated the FE list in post #1 - there are now 32 cabins participating. Joann #2, you have 2 cabins listed, will you have 2 FE's or one?

Cinderella97, what's your name? and do you have a stateroom # yet?

I'm Jill. We don't have a our state room, a GTY category 10. Hopefully soon when our final paper work comes.

This is my first time so I'm still trying to figure this out. Is this 1 gift per room and child or just one per room?

I've had so much fun reading thru all these posts and trying to keep up on everyones adventurous lives. I can't wait to meet everyone.

Thanks Jill for your name! There are currently 32 staterooms signed up for the exchange. I think most are doing one gift per room but it really depends on what you are giving. Mine is one per stateroom. Since we are going to WDW prior to the cruise I want to minimize bulk as much as possible.

does anyone know how much and how many people we have to tip....and we are planning on visiting Disneyworld after the cruise....anyone with ticket connections or tips?

Thanks....just trying to be prepared and stretch my dollar as much as I can:cool1:

This is from another site:

You can charge them if you do not wish to use cash.

Gratuities listed below are for the whole cruise and the amounts are
PER PERSON, including any children in you party.

Position Tips for a 7 day cruise
Restaurant Server: $25.75
Restaurant Assistant Server: $18.75
Head Server: $6.50
Stateroom Host(ess): $25.25
Total PER PERSON: $76.25

Room Service: At your discretion

For room service, you will want to tip a couple of dollars, or more depending on the size of your order.
If you order drinks, a gratuity is automatically added. I add a bit more for exceptional service, like if they bring me my drink on the beach on Castaway Cay.
You will also want to tip the porters a dollar or two per bag, especially if they carry your bags all the way across the street to the parking lot.

Thanks for the updates.

Note to self to bring an empty suitcase just for the FEs. I think the last one we did only had 18 cabins involved and I remember how many different things we received. It does make coming home to the cabin fun.

Yes, we have two connecting cabins, but just one FE. I don't know which door I'll hang the FE on, but we'll decorate both. :cool1:
