Congrats on the pirate!!!

That explanation makes sense (really it doesn't, but as you said it's Texas) - but, it's been that way for the past three years...

We're fighting over the (non) use of a calculator to study for Algebra right now...

Don't mess with an engineering dad or a daughter of a math teacher who grew up in the olden days before graphing calculators ... You can solve for "x" and/or graph without a graphing calculator!

Okay, this should give you a cringe...

I have a student, who got an 85 on their final project - (its an AP class)...
really, they should have gotten a 70, but I was EXTRMEMLY generous..... The father of this student sent me email last night and asked me if I would please change the grade of this student to a 90 for the project, so this student will have an A in the class, so they can exempt the final. (They only wants to exempt if they have an A). OKAY--> this is one of OUR peers....
what ARE THEY THINKING!!!!!!!!! Will they send email to all the students college professors also??????????

Give her a slide rule - LOL!!!!

Don't give the parent any ideas... I'm sure they will if they could....:lmao:

We're hoping for some major grace from Mike's Algebra teacher - he has a 77 in Algebra and needs a 95 for a B...(He's earned whatever grade he gets - so, no e-mails from us.... ) It's a hs credit class, so he's taking the same final as the freshman algebra students... Not sure there's much grace to be had in math - hopefully, he'll show his work and not depend on the calculator...That's what got him into trouble in the first place.... Hopefully with all of my nagging, he'll show his work and hope for partial credit....

My DD did the same, she actually came into hs with 4 credits since she also took PreAp World Geo between 8th and 9th grade summer. I'm not sure how your HS and jr high are, but here she did NOT get the same final the hs did - the jr high teacher wrote his own final. Might end up being a saving grace for you if DS teacher does the same?

The project the kids had to do was write a game in Java using gridworld (the AP case study code) Using that code, they had a major portion already worte. They worked in groups of 2. This group of 2 did more talking/goofing around in class then working for three weeks, so the father complained that his student worked at home for many days straight to get this done (where was the partner?), and yes, the father knew the game did not work properly (it was a game of snake, but the snake NEVER grew, or died correctly). His student had one excuse after the other as to why it did not work...... but the father was sure after hearing that his student worked so hard for several weeks at home, I would understand and raise the grade.

My DD got an 89 for a semester grade in an AP class that she took... I would no sooner think to write the teacher and ask her to bump it up one point... how fair is that to the kids who earned an A in the class....

What are parents thinking? What are they teaching their child?

When my DD was in 4th grade, her first semester grade was an A. I told the teacher that the grade was incorrect since there was no way she should have gotten that grade. He explained how the grades were calculated and that she did get an A. It was still wrong. I wanted her grades to stand for something and her test grades did not reflect that grade. I bet that teacher never had that conversation before that day. :rotfl:

Friends from a previous cruise got off today - I can't wait to read their trip reports and see their photos.

I also know someone who got off today, I can't wait to hear about it!!!

I took AP Chemistry as a hs sophomore. THe first semester I got an 89.5which translated into a B. No rounding up. :headache:

It was the only B I ever received and that .5% kept me from being valedictorian. :sad2:

But I earned the grade I got, and it really hasn't hurt me in the long run! :flower3: (although I was pretty devastated at the time. :sad1:)
