July 18 2009 Tortola - Part 2!

We held our graduation tonight for our adult students getting their high school diplomas. It is always an interesting event. Very different from traditional graduations. You are happy for them to achieve something they couldn't get before. I'm glad to be turning them into tax payers. They are so happy and it's nice to know that you were able to help them along the way.

The interesting aspect each year is the dress of the guests. They are usually the kind of outfits that make you wonder what made them want to spend their money. They go from tacky to trashy.:scared: More towards the latter. I don't know where they think they are going? And the shoes are another wild story. :scared1: It was chilly tonight so the outfits were not as wild this year. I guess it was too cold to have all those cut-outs?

Our school doesn't get out for another month. Last day is 6/24. The last 2 days are 1/2 days.

I have to start cleaning everything out of the garage because we are having it redone and they are starting Saturday. Going to repair all the holes and paint. Rip out all the shelving there now and replace it with the Elfa shelving system from the Container Store. I can't wait to get it organized! Maybe I can actually fit the new car in there.

DD (17), DD (5) - CA - Room 2635

This is our first time cruising with Disney and we are so excited. Please pass along any tips you might have so that our trip can go smoother. We're also planning on staying in Florida for 4 days after the cruise so if anyone knows of any great hotel rates or maybe a timeshare that some wants to rent out, that would be great.

Thanks from DW and DH!

Welcome!

My DD's prom is next Friday and we're having the pre-prom party. I'm trying to get everything together- especially the menu. I don't want to serve anything messy that they could drop on their prom dresses. So I'm going with finger sandwiches, cheese and crackers, a veggie tray, chips and pretzels. For dessert I'm thinking of cookies( no chocolate), cuocakes, and something else. Does anyone have any other ideas?

After the prom the kids are all coming back here to sleep. We'll cook them a breakfast and then we'll barbecue in the back yard. I'd rather have them here than going to the somewhere down the shore.

OK today was a day of first. It was the first time I have actually questioned myself on whether or not this job is for me. I love the kids and the challenge but sometimes it is just too much. Today is also the first time we had to send a teacher to the ER. A child bite a chunk out of her arm and she ended up with stitches. Now I've got to go do school work. Is it July yet?

Until 2 years ago, I worked with special ed kids - I was right where you are at now, I just did not think I could go to work another day - I just did not think I had enough love left (I did, I was just burning out).

I moved out of special ed, but still teach one course that we put a lot of the higher functioning kids in (keyboarding).

Perhaps there is something that you can do where you do not have 100% of the challenges all day that you do now next school year?

The biggest issue is that by the time I step into this classroom in March they had already had three teachers in the year so there had been no stability and then I was out sick in April and the beginning of May which caused issues. My saving grace is that in a few weeks we will be graduating these kids and in August I'll get a whole new hopefully calmer group. I will say though those frozen drinks they serve on the ship are looking awfully tempting right now.

I believe we are on the same shuttle. Does this mean we have to trip each other to be the 1st in the door? :confused3

Don't worry, I'm not that competitive. I have to get my drinks through security - that's my priority!!

We are on the 10:00 shuttle from the Radisson too! Tia from TN is also... I won't trip you, but may gently push you out of my way!! :rotfl2:

I just want to send you a :grouphug:. I taught 3 year olds for 8 years in addition to adults in night school. Some years were really tough with the wee ones, and this was a regular preschool. Some years I had some special children in my class. I only taught in 2.5 hours per session 3 days a week. I would come home and crash. I hope your teacher friend in okay.

Ok, I just read this entire trip report.....whew, great details!! Thx so much for sharing your wonderful trip with all of us!!:hug::hug:

You want to come do mine after you get done? I'll even ask DH to BBQ after you get done LOL!

I just discovered a water leak above one of my cabinets in the kitchen. Now I have to wait for the plumber tomorrow and hope he doesn't have to tear the kitchen apart to find the source. .... and clean out more of the garage.l
