July 18 2009 Tortola - Part 2!

Welcome!

My DD's prom is next Friday and we're having the pre-prom party. I'm trying to get everything together- especially the menu. I don't want to serve anything messy that they could drop on their prom dresses. So I'm going with finger sandwiches, cheese and crackers, a veggie tray, chips and pretzels. For dessert I'm thinking of cookies( no chocolate), cuocakes, and something else. Does anyone have any other ideas?

After the prom the kids are all coming back here to sleep. We'll cook them a breakfast and then we'll barbecue in the back yard. I'd rather have them here than going to the somewhere down the shore.

Wendy, you are a very wise mom. I'm sure they'll have a great time. You, on the otherhand, will get NO sleep!!! :lmao:

The biggest issue is that by the time I step into this classroom in March they had already had three teachers in the year so there had been no stability and then I was out sick in April and the beginning of May which caused issues. My saving grace is that in a few weeks we will be graduating these kids and in August I'll get a whole new hopefully calmer group. I will say though those frozen drinks they serve on the ship are looking awfully tempting right now.

Lissa

When we all line up at the pearly gates, teachers like you get to cut the line. Bless you for what you do. :lovestruc

DD16 just got her very first job!!!! Go DD!!!!!

She will be working in the child care center in a upscale gym. She really wanted to work there, AND... it gives her and her immediate family a free membership to the gym... gotta love her getting that perk... LOL!

http://www.lifetimefitness.com/clubs/index.cfm?strWebAction=virtual_tour
is a tour of the gym....

I'm so very proud of her! Now, I get to share my car

Congrats to your daughter!!!!!

Hi, everybody!

My family and I are headed to Tortola with you all and would love to get in on the FE fun! It's me (Jamie), DH (Bill), DD 11 (Carrie) and DD 9 (Claire). We're in 8548 and our home state is Georgia (are we the only ones from Georgia???)

This will be our fourth cruise, but our first time participating in the FE exchange and it's really added to our pre-trip excitement. We LOVE planning and plotting little surprises like this! Only downside has been getting my girls to agree on what our FE will look like!

I need to go back and read all the posts in this thread, but have my fingers crossed that several of you will jump in with the good news that you've got a daughter (or daughters or nieces) about the same age as my two! Would be great for mine to make some connections before we even board!

We are looking forward to meeting everybody!

Jamie

Welcome Jamie! This is a very active group, if you read all of our posts I will be very impressed. :worship:

I have added you to the FE list found in the 1st post of this thread.

Jamie

Welcome! :cool1: I have a DS 10, so they will at least be in the same group at the club. We live in TN. This will be our first FE exchange as well... it has been really fun planning this! See you at Port! :)

This is so sweet! I just had to share!

So DD7 is getting sad about leaving her friends this summer and heading to a new school with new kids, etc. We had tried to find an e-mail penpal for her, but unlike with DD5 who has two girls her age also moving to Kampala this summer, there are no 7-year-old girls coming in.

So yesterday, I came home from work and checked my home e-mail. There was an e-mail - To Caitie from Grade 1W.

Turns out someone from the Embassy told one of the 1st grade teachers that Caitie was getting very nervous about not knowing anyone, so she had her class each write a sentence about what they thought a new student should know about the school and they all wrote a combined e-mail to welcome Caitie to her new school!!!! :thumbsup2

So now she knows there are kids just like her in Kampala who love their school and are looking forward to meeting her in August. :)

That is so nice, she is probably feeling so much better.:dance3:

Welcome Jamie!:cheer2:

I'm Lucy and I've been put in charge of FE....Lucy here knows NOTHING about FE's, been on 8 cruises and never done FE's.....one crazy JoAnn #1 (jlawall) thought it was very funny to put me in charge....it is not funny and she is NOT #1 Joann in my book:lmao::lmao::lmao:

OK, now i need suggestions to getting this organized. I've got my fish (beautiful) extender thanks to one very wonderful and kind person, I've got some of my FE gifts (no I do NOT get creative here)...but i have so many questions on organizing this. Could someone answer, who has done this before, :worship::worship::worship:

1) since most of us are flying, some from other countries, how do we determine if we should do 'adult' or "child" gifts?:confused3:confused3:
2) how do we get a list of the DISers doing the FE gifts (not everyone needs to do this), we are still going to like you:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:
3) does everyone PM Lucy with their names, cabin numbers and either adults in the room or children?????:confused3:confused3:confused3
4) do we set a day for each person to give the FE gift or do we 'wing' it and surprise everyone:confused3:confused3:confused3
5) does anyone know an easy way to organize????:confused3:confused3

6) and, finally, is JoAnn #1 one of my favorite people?:rolleyes1:rolleyes1

Welcome back Susan, haven't seen you around in awhile.:flower3:

Welcome back Susan, haven't seen you around in awhile.:flower3:

1) Just do family gifts?
2) I think there is already a list, does anyone know where it is?
3) see #2
4) I think we could "wing" it, what does everyone else think?
5) If anyone knows how to get the ship's picture and highlight the rooms with FEs, that works really well? Can anyone volunteer to do that once we find the FE list? Otherwise we could just look at the deck #s and figure it out that way.

Thanks, Lucy, you're doing a great job so far:cloud9::banana:.........your still one of my favorites!:worship::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

Thanks for the warm welcome!

You're right about there being A TON of posts in this thread - - not to mention the 1st one that closed!

After skimming through, I think I'm pretty much up to speed with the basics which are that a) you really ARE a fun and friendly bunch :goodvibes and b) this is gonna be a terrific cruise! :)

You are a very smart girl, Georgia Jamie!:rotfl2::rotfl2:

We have a DD13 and are in the cabin right next to you. WELCOME!!!

Hey there neighbor! Hmmm, I wonder . . . will this make it easier or tougher to sneak a gift into your fish extender??? :)

Looking forward to meeting you and your family!

I have been updating the FE list since we started thread part 2. It's on the 1st post. I do have a question about this though. I know some people are creating some gifts that sound fantastic and time consuming. Is there a point where we close the list? Is it one month prior to sailing, when we reach a certain number on the list? It may be difficult to add people the last few weeks and get more gifts completed. I hate to exclude people who want to participate - we certainly don't have to do that, just wondering what people think on this.:confused3
