I saw a show on Travel Channel or else the Food Network recently about pizza and one of the places it highlighted was Naples, Italy. While we were out of town last week, we happened into a California Pizza Kitchen and they had Neapolitan pizza -- so I ordered one, and mmmmm....

I told DH when we are in Naples that I want to try a pizza.

I don't want to spoil the pleasure, but Naples isn't the happiest place on earth for the moment...

Ever heard of what's happening there for the moment? Read this article....

CAPRI THE ISLAND DROWNING IN A SEA OF RUBBISH
Independent, The (London), Jul 7, 2005 by John Phillips

In one of W Somerset Maugham's most famous short stories, the anonymous narrator describes the joy of a visit to Capri: 'There is a terrace that overlooks the Bay of Naples and when the sun sinks slowly into the sea, the island of Ischia is silhouetted against a blaze of splendour. It is one of the most lovely sights in the world'.

'The Lotus Eater' was written in 1945. Sixty years later, a different scene awaits the tourist on arrival in Capri. Mountains of rotting refuse litter the otherwise picturesque streets and sun- drenched alleyways. Even the beautiful piazza is in danger of being overwhelmed by the tide of litter.

The mayor of Capri, Ciro Lembo, is at the point of despair: 'Over the past two days, our streets have been invaded by the rising piles of rubbish,' he told the Rome paper Il Messaggero this week.

Mario Staiano, mayor of AnaCapri, the other village on the island, is similarly exasperated: 'We just cannot manage to get rid of the waste generated by 13,500 residents and 3,500 guests,' he said. 'Imagine what it will be like when we have to deal with the rubbish produced by the tens of thousands of tourists who arrive at the heart of the summer.'

I imagine that any time an area becomes a tourist "hot spot" that there are all sorts of infrastructure issues that have to be addressed. Thank you for sharing this article... it serves as a reminder that we should all do our part to conserve, reduce, reuse ...

I still want a pizza (LOL)!

Hi To All!

Hard to believe that I haven't been on this thread in 5 months. So much to do, and the trip is so far away. I love hearing other's plans since I know that I need to start thinking about the details of our travels. Our plans are complicated by trying to visit two previous exchange students in Germany and Denmark.

Just returned from a fabulous 5 year old son's birthday celebration in WDW. Perfect weather and not too crowded.

I will probably be an infrequent visitor for the next few months, but once the excursions get posted things should really get fun. :cool1:

I am sorry to hear that but look similiar to me as i don't know if my holiday will be okay as I am waiting until November to hear if it is okay. I email to my boss but no confirm yet. :guilty:

I hope your holiday will be okay?

I know that's a big relief! I keep counting and calculating my annual leave (I earn 6 hours every other week) to make sure I don't end up using too much leave between now and July!

Well the excursion stuff should be coming up pretty soon so I'm excited about that! For months this cruise has just seemed ages away, but once we can read about excursions and port info (which I noticed online recently) I think it will seem much closer.

Nzdisneymom, I see that you'll be in WDW the same time as us this month-we'll be at the GF from the 18th-25th. We're doing a MVMCP on the 21st. Maybe we'll see you around!

Justthat - I was thinking by the first of the year the excursion info would be out... I can't wait to start that part of planning for the trip (and figure out what it's going to cost me).

We're doing MVMCP on the 22nd. I'd love to catch up with y'all for a chance to say "hey". PM me, ok?

Now you are makin' us curious... What is a MVMCP? :confused3

It's an abbreviation for Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party - an after hours, separate ticket event at the MK. Here's a link to more info about it: MVMCP

And since your username states that you're a DLP fan, how long would you say we'd need to visit it after the Med cruise with a 3.5yo and almost 1yo? We were thinking of 3 days of DLP-does that sound about right? Actually my son turns 1 on August 4th, so we'll just miss celebrating his birthday in DLP.

Wow, that seems to be a great Party! :stitch2:

So, You're planning a visit to DLRParis, after the cruise: very good idea! DLRP is celebrating it's 15th Birthday in 2007.
And I see You have planned 3 days: that is enough, even with small children. During the summer the park is open from 9 a.m. 'till 11 p.m.! And I think DLRP is the "smallest" Disneypark in the world, not to compare with the parks in the US. We visited the parks in Orlando, and Anaheim, so we can compare...

Hi Scottishwee,

Glad to hear you have booked your flights and apartment, lucky you, I bet you can not wait. Was it a lot cheaper to fly BA via London than to fly directly from Edinburgh with Globespan?

We would love to book flights just now but I have just had a change of boss and Iam not sure if i will even get the holiday dates i need :confused3 and i will not find out until end of November, so iam trying not to think about the cruise just now as it just makes me feel sad that i might not get to go :sad2: :sad2:.

If i dont get the right dates i will try and change cruises but i have checked and the prices have gone up quite a bit and there are not too may cabin types left, just my luck.

I wont be on again until i find out one way or another so keep posting and hopefully i'll be back in late November full of excitement at our trip (fingers crossed).

Andrea

Hi Andrea

What happen about your holiday? Did you get it okay? pixiedust:

Looking forward to hear from you.

Dear Scottishwee,

It is funny you should ask that question today, becasue I was only told today that my holidays have been approved, so I will be joining you on the cruise :cloud9: . I think I will book my flights and hotel this weekend. I am going to book Globespan from Edinburgh as this seems to be cheaper than BA via London. I am sooooooo pleased that I will be joining everyone on the cruise and my DD is over the moon at the good news.

Only 7 months 8 days to go :santa:

Oh, I am so happy to hear that news :cool1: More Scottish

And my boss confirm me that the holiday is okay phew!!

Yes, I think you better book with Globespan as I wish I did it at first place but I booked with BA few months ago cos cheaper but now we wish go with Globespan cos direct flight is better than stop in London :sad2: But expensive for 4 of us. Now BA price went right up same price as Globespan :sad2:

Never mind, we will meet up on the Cruise and that is wonderful news. Oh yes, your dd is over the moon and good for her.

Scottishwee35 :thumbsup2

So who's got some excursions in mind? I read through the whole list and some of them sound amazing, particularly if you don't have little kids!

Hi

at disneycruise.com that there are excursion now. The price is reasonable.

But four of us will be more expensive?

Lots of choice.

But at Rome 10 hours and I don't think I leave my two childrens at club as it is too long hours. Think take them with us to Rome.

Scottishwee35 :surfweb:

They all look fab. I guess we'll probably go with ones for Rome and Florence, but might do the other places on our own. Don't know yet... Gives me something to think about over Christmas :cool1:

Does anyone know how many people usually get to go on an excursion? We have to wait til the 75 day window to book cos it's our first cruise. Don't want to get all excited about doing a particular tour and then be disappointed when it's booked up...
