July 15, 2013- WONDER if a Mickey Bar will melt in Alaska?

We are hoping to do the Deadliest Catch tour too! We have early seating though and based on the time stated on their website, it seems like the tour DCL would be on is at 2:45. Ketchikan day was semi-formal day last year, so we are conflicted. Also, we would be leaving our kids in the nursery to do the tour and just not sure on the timing. We have to think about it. We might just not eat in the MDR that night. I also thought the Snorkel Alaska looked super fun, but I am for sure the only one in our group who would do that! We have all been to Ketchikan a few times in the past, but I do remember cute shopping and if the salmon are running up the creek, that would be awesome to see. I was there over the 4th of July like 7+ years ago (old boyfriend's hometown) and they were not there yet.

Cookie family. I'm interested in finding out what type travel plans you have so far or what your thinking of doing. I don't have enough posts yet to private message. If you would rather not post your plans you can find me at wes_myert at yahoo.com

I've been thinking about changing our early seating to late because I wanted to the deadliest catch also. We have a 7 yo grandchild with us but I think she would be ok with the later meal. And I was thinking if a accident happened during dinner (and with me they can happen) at least I wouldnt have to go to the show after dinner with a big spot of mustard or what ever on my shirt.

They have the dine and play for kids for the late seating for kids that are in the kids programs. They get served first and then picked up by the counselor about 9pm.

Broncobait - I sent you a message about our travel plans.

Hi all,
Closed the deal for the July 15th Alaska trip. Will be me, wife, daughter and soon to be 8Yr old grandson. This is our second Alaska cruise. First was with HA. Just got back from the Carib and oh do I miss the warm weather! Hope to get to know others before to long and maybe there will be a M&G sometime on the sea day. Will be on deck 6. This is our second Wonder trip. Good ship.
Will get back to normal after the Ravens win the super bowl or is it the bro bowl? For now all stay well.
Cheers,
Ducksquack

Welcome! As Cardinals fans (yes, yes, there are some... you can get off the floor from laughter) we support the Ravens in the Super Bowl!

This will be my 3rd cruise to Alaska so I will give my insight on at least Juneau and Skagway. Juneau the ship may or may not be in the downtown area and have to take a shuttle. It was $3 when we were on RCI. If you want to do Whale Watching use Orca Enterprises with Capt Larry. He is the best guy to go with it. Guarantee you will see a whale. He is like the Jack Hanna of whales. He also has a smaller boat so you can really see something. They are located right in the main shopping area. The train is just ok. It tells the story about Alaska but I would never do it again. For Skagway we are doing the mushers camp with sled dogs non snow experience. For Ketchican I am doing the deadliest catch tour. I am a huge fan of the show. You can also rent cars too and are much cheaper than the shire excursions.

When we sailed last year to Alaska with Disney we docked out of town in Juneau and they provided free shuttles to the Mount Roberts Tramway at the edge of town. Everything was a pretty easy walk from there.

some one said there was a fb page for the cruise. whats the name of the page on facebook

First a big thank you to AZMermaid for adding us to the roll call. Do I get the idea that your son is a railfan?. He and I may just hit it off even if there is a slight age difference. I'm an active volunteer at a great rail museum in Baltimore. No doubt he is a Thomas fan. me too.
Would like some info from those who are flying into Seattle and taking the train to Vancouver. Looks like it could be a really visual train ride. Any info in the Amtrak web site? Otherwise we can rent a car and zip up IS5. Thanks in advance for any info.
By the way if you really like senic railtrips do the Fairbanks to Anchorage trip on your next Alaska vacation with an overnight in Denali Natl Park.
Feels like Alaska in Baltimore now
Thanks for listening
Take care

Oh yes and by the way GO RAVENS!!!

To say my son is a rail fan is putting it mildly! He is in this stage where everything he sees is choo choo tracks or choo choo tunnels. The most frequently sighted tracks are rod iron fences, which I guess do look like tracks! We are going to a birthday party tomorrow at the Maricopa Live Steamers and he might go bezerk! There is another rail park near us that we go to frequently, but I didn't even know about this one! Yep, also a Thomas fan- Chuggington will do in a pinch, but really it is all about Thomas!

The Amtrak leaves early in the am before 8am I think around 730am and later in the day around 7 pm. The early one gets to Vancouver around 11am and the other one is about 11pm. The cost is about $39 for coach and around $60 for business class. You will clear customs once in Vancouver. The return does not leave until 530pm it is a very scenic ride. I would love to do the train but I am meeting family in Vancouver and can take the bus from the airport and will drop me at the hotel directly.

New to the boards and Disney Cruizing...

Grandma (my mom) just booked the 15th for the entire family, can't complain about that! In total we will have three rooms,
#1- Me (Brian), my wife, and 9yo son.
#2- My Brother, his wife, and their sons 7yo and 8yo.
#3- Grandma (is actually going to have one of the two boys bunking here to avoid fees for a single room)

All three boys will be excited to participate in the Fish extenders program as they have enjoyed pin trading at both Disneyland and Disney World.

This will be the 3rd Alaskan Cruise for Grandma and I, 2nd for my wife, and first for everyone else. Looking forward to it! Any suggestions, links, info would be appreciated.

Brian

I also saw mention of a FB page but missed the link, if someone could post that it would be great.

I had made it a secret group, because I had read reports of people outside DIS finding the FB page (which is fine by me) but joining the FE group and then not really participating. I just changed it to closed so people could find it. If we want, we could set it back to secret. Search Disney Wonder to Alaska July 15, 2013

I think a secret group is better, otherwise people can see you are going on a cruise, know the dates and know when your house will be vacant.

Talked to a tvl person in the Washington State tour office. Amtrak just isnt going to work out with the plane skeds. Their other options is take a bus. The advive i got was rent a car and drive from the Seattle apt to a hotel in Vancouver near where the ship docks and hope they offer van service. Tvl person said that if ur into airplanes Boeing has a tour of their plant in Everett, WA.

came home from the AAA tvl store with five lbs of maps and books looks like
I5 is the way to go. Really need to do so deep thinking about flying into Seattle or direct to Vancouver and spend a day there sightseeing. Understand it's a really nice city. We'll see.

Everyone take care
cheers from

oh and should i forget - GO RAVENS!!!

Please add Davebuck and my dw to the FE list. Really looking forward to the cruise...pixiedust:

Hi, we are booked for this cruise (me, DD 15, and my mom) and trying to figure out flights. Does anyone know if a 2:00 return flight on the day we get back (July 22) would be OK? I'm not sure what time the ship docks and what time Disney suggests for flights, etc.

Thanks for any info!

The Boeing tour is rally neat we did that about 7 years ago. The rental cars do come with a pretty big surcharge. I am flying into Seattle and will take the PM train or the late afternoon shuttle to Vancouver. I am flying SW so have to trek to Canada too.
