July 13, 2008 - Cruisin' the Mexican Riviera

How fun to see the ship off! We'll be there soon.:cool1:

On another note-can anyone help with a decorative magnetic door doodad? I have the magnetic paper. I have found lots of info on the boards with scanned images. Would love a primer on how to put it on the paper. I have mac and I am a novice at this sort of thing, but willing to try. It would be fun to make one for our door and my in-laws'.

We are getting closer and closer! Bought two dresses for evening wear today. Maybe new shoes will be next.:lovestruc

Last time I simply printed on paper and had it laminated. Then I put a couple of stick on magnets on the back.

Mulan's Ma
Funny-mine were even more primitive on our 2005 DCL Mexican cruise. I had the kids use sharpies on the magnetic paper directly. No computer at all!:goodvibes

Thought I'd graduate to something more flashy.

In the past, I've just printed graphics onto regular paper, laminated them, and then put them on adhesive-backed magnetic paper.

This time, I plan to buy magnetic paper from an office supply store (like Office Max or Office Depot) that comes in regular 8-1/2 x 11" sheets and just run it through my printer. I don't have any kind of fancy photo software, so I just cut & paste what I like into a Word document before printing.

A friend of mine has also had great success with printing onto photo paper and then sticking her graphics onto adhesive-backed magnet paper. The colors turn out really good using the photo paper and this also skips the need for laminating.

7 of us went to see the ship off today. There was something so magical (pun intended) about being there and knowing that it is just a matter of time.

Oh my goodness! How cool!!! :goodvibes I can't wait until we're all boarding that great big beautiful ship!!! :lovestruc

So, lets all start planning some mmet at greet type thing for the cruise for all of us to meet, who else likes that idea?

I was looking over the first day's schedule, and it looks like the best time to do a DIS Meet & Greet would be between the 3pm Lifeboat Drill and the 4pm Sail Away Party. Since there could be 30 or more families meeting, I would suggest gathering at Topsider's outdoor tables at the very back of the ship. You can easily get there without going through the inside of Topsiders by walking around the starboard side of the ship, past Goofy's Galley and Scoops. It would have to be a quick meet - starting immediately after the Lifeboat Drill, so that everyone could be back to Goofy's Pool by the 4pm Sail Away Party. I think that would give us all enough time to put faces with names. :)

I'll be happy to be the one to organize a Fish Extender Gift Exchange unless there is someone else who would like to. On my last cruise, everyone just posted (or sent me a PM with) their cabin number, names, and ages of the kids. I kept the list current and would notify participants whenever another person joined in. A week prior to sailing, I sent out the final list so participants could print off the cabin numbers and would know just how many surprises to bring. We left it up to each participant when to deliver their gifts. Actual Fish Extenders ranged from simple paper gift bags to beautiful elaborate cloth "letter holder" hangars. I just used a small cloth navy blue nautical bag I found at the Dollar Tree. For the most part, it worked out well, but it was a little small to hold some of the booty I received pirate: so I'm currently on the lookout for something with a little more depth to use this time. If I find some time this summer, I might even try making a real FE. ;)

that's a great idea, never even thought of at the back of topsiders. that's basically what I've done on other cruises a quick meet to put faces with names, so we know who is a DISer

also would anybody like any Leis, I ordered some for the last cruise for DISers who wanted them they are green

Deb T-
Count us in for the meet! There are 4 of us. Thanks for organizing it.

Regarding fish extender gifts. How does that work? Do you purchase a gift for each child for each day? Or just one gift per child for the week? A Disney Character Warehouse just opened near us. Perfect place for getting little gifts. :goodvibes

Hi BeachyGirl - Thanks for joining in! I'll need you to either post here or send me a PM with your cabin number, everyone's names, and the ages of your kids.

The FE Exchange is for both adults and for children. :) Some people give one gift per cabin and some like to give a little gift for everyone in each cabin. It's totally up to you on what you'd like to do. Here are some links to ideas on what others have done:

I know what you mean. DW and I went on an Alaskan cruise on the Celebrity Mercury. It docked in San Diego (our home town) about 6 months before our cruise. We went down to the docks to check it out. It definitely added to the excitement and anticipation of our cruise!

so for everyone who wants a Leis for the sailaway party I'd give them away before that at the little Dis Meet, PM me and let me know how many each of you would like, my friend works at a party store so he gets them free all the time, so they won't cost a thing to get

We are taking our twin grandsons. One of my New Years resolutions was to spoil them or so they keep reminding me. We will be right next door to Ocean Quest so that will be easy for them. Yes they love to play games on people, especially at school but Grandma can always tell them apart but not always Grandpa. I'm going to let them sign them self in and out of the club.
