All day episodes of "Baking With Julia" today on PBS...still on.
but not on my comcast basic cable!! I live near Chicago and PBS advertised it, I got all comfy to watch Julia on Sunday - to be denied!!
suzzanen Thanks for posting that! ITA - I even think Julie Powell's attitude comes out that way in the movie too -
however, you will ache for both Julie and Julia, there are so many life parellels that the movie was able to bring out - and yet - I wanted more Julia Child!! I know if not for Julie - we wouldnt have the movie with Julia Child - and this movie leaves you wanting more Julia!! I was grateful for the scenes of Julia, but wanted more! The suttle scenes were so poignant - for instance when Julia reads her sister's letter announcing (the sister) pregnancy - the touching moment between Paul and Julia - oh it did bring tears to my eyes - and it was such a brief moment in the movie - but was done with such emotions! There were several other great moments in Julia's life that you just wanted to know more - esp with Meryl Streep portraying Julia so spot on!!
Also, I have to admit - I make a good Beef Burgundy - at least I thought I did until I went online and made Julia's - OMG! and I'll admit I made it just like Julie -

I fell asleep and it burned!! well almost - but it got all dried up!! I channeled Julia and just "Fixed it" and served it! (no burnt taste - but I have to do it again - without overcooking it!!)
(also, the bookstore was out of Mastering the art Cookbook - but had another one - and it had pictures, and was really set up unique - and she went into more detail for instance on the cut of beef - instead of buying precooked chopped meat - you can buy a top roast etc and chop it down!)

(has pictures and descriptions of the process)
Julia's recipe, from her book, from the publishers - a PDF file!! Awesome!

(I did have to google how to cook the mushrooms and onions - WOW - really worth it!)
Oh and the worst part? French Butter! Honestly we went to Garden Fresh - a huge cheaper store with more international foods than any other grocery stores! But French butter has 23% fat - American 11%!!
(they also had rolled bacon- omg - what a difference!)
