We returned Sat. from 5 nighst at SSR. We had a 2 bedroom in the Congress Park area(1821), fourth floor with a pretty good view of most of DTD. Overall we had a very nice time. The weather was good considering the time of year. It misted on us a couple of times and rained on us towards the end of MVMCP we went to on the 26th but still had a great time that night. I do think the word is out about this time of year. We have gone several times at this time and it just seemed more crowded this time. The one minor complaint I have is the room layout of the two bedrooms at SSR. Having stayed many times at OKW and also stayed in a two bedroom there, you can compare the layout and size and realize just how much more room you have at OKW. We had our son and his two kids just like last time at OKW and we all felt the room size and layout was not as nice as OKW. The balcony at OKW was much larger and had a full size table on it for early morning and late night sitting. The SSR one is barely large enough for two people. We did enjoy the parks and have no complaints at all there. My wife and I are back in Feb. and this time we are staying in a studio at WLV. With just the two of us I am sure we will not mind these differences. Overall, we enjoyed our trip very much and thought SSR is a nice resort, we are just glad we have OKW as our home resort..smjj

Glad you had a great trip and liked SSR....

From what I hear you can't compare OKW room sizes with any other DVC in
WDW....
OKW rooms are much bigger....Can't wait to try OKW.

Saratoga Springs, Wilderness Lodge, Beach Club Villas and BoardWalk Villas all pretty much share the same room designs. There are a few minor tweaks, but the basic layout is the same.

None of them really have adequate dining space--the dining table seats a maximum of 4 (and that can be tight), plus there's a little bar area with two chairs just behind the kitchen.

Glad you enjoyed SSR! Yeah, DVC broke the mold after they made OKW...

This is so true! There is not adequate seating for 8 at a meal. We made it work at a family celebration but it wasn't easy!

Ironic that the two bedroom sleeps 8, but has dining for 6. And its only 6 if you count the counter stools.

There's a nice big table in front of the sofa. The number of vacationers that would need to seat 8 would hardly justify the extra sqaure footage and cost involved. To put a bigger table would crowd the room. Hotel rooms are not the place for formal gatherings, besides most kids I know would rather have dinner while sitting on the sofa or floor with the TV on, something they probably don't get to do at home. That's what makes vacations special. I do agree the balconies are cramped, although we usually only use ours late at night or for morning coffee. AKV is the only other resort with large balconies and this is just a result of combining rooms from the lodge, not sure how the new section will be.
The biggest advantage the other resorts have over OKW is if you have several rooms booked you must use the parking lot to get from one room to the next. Nice to know little ones can go next door or down the hall without going outside. All in All every resort has one or two quirks but I would have no problem staying at any.

Aren't there only 4 chairs including the ones at the counter?

We stayed in a 2 BR with 4 adults at VWL a few years back. Crowded is the word that comes to mind.:sad2:

I think it is a bench against the wall (seats about 2) then 2 chairs plus 2 counter stool/chairs. So it basically seats 6 in the 1 or 2br-units. But you are right- it is just 4 chairs.

VWL doesn't even have a bench!!! So a villa for 8 seats 4!!!

You're right--even the VWL floorplan shows just a round table with two chairs in the dining area.

The others have an oval table with a bench against the wall and two chairs on the other side.

I have mixed feelings about the setup. No, it isn't dining space for 8 at any of them. But then I have to acknowledge that a lot of guests don't even dine in their room, making it a somewhat reasonable compromise.

The only time we even came close to putting 8 in a 2B we knowingly chose OKW for our trip due to the larger rooms.

Pitiful, isn't it? If I remember correctly, BWV is the same way.

It is fine for 2 (the 1 BR) which is what we usually do, but we go to OKW for larger groups.

Glad you enjoyed your trip. My family and I leave in 4 days for our trip and we can not wait!!! Our 2 daughters do not know about the trip so this will be a great surprise for them!!! We will be staying at the BCV until 12/17/07. I am very excited to go the the MVMCP.

I am new to this website and this is my first reply to a post so I hope I did it correctly.

Hi there, fellow Marylander and Welcome Home!

Our table becomes comand central. Thats where all our our "park junk" goes. We have never eaten a meal in the rooms, yet. We keep saying we may one day, but it hasn't happened yet.

The only time we even came close to putting 8 in a 2B we knowingly chose OKW for our trip due to the larger rooms.

Most we ever have is five.

besides most kids I know would rather have dinner while sitting on the sofa or floor with the TV on, something they probably don't get to do at home.

And people wonder why the carpets and furniture get so dirty. :scared1:

Unfortunately, the dinky tables are the one thing I loathe about DVC (sans OKW) when compared to my Marriott resorts. Having another vacation condo I own outright, I know the headache caused when people, especially kids, eat outside the designated areas. Kids are never clean and never quite seem to know how to pick up crumbs.

But having said that, in a two bedroom at SSR you actually get three eating areas: the bench table (seats 4), bar counter (seats 2) and 2nd bedroom round table (seats 2). If you wanted to, I suppose you could always pull that round table into the living room and have a mini-banquet there. In a HA room, you lose the counter but keep the chairs (go figure).

Glad you had a good time! I have always wondered why the dining area is so small. I have not stayed in larger unit yet at OKW, but I have at VB. I think the layout of those two is similar. Love all the extra room!

You must be ready to burst! We had our kids' first trip to WDW as a surprise. I was a mess. The morning of, I got up at 2am, threw up until about 4am when I got to wake everyone up. I cried like a baby when my DH read the poem I wrote telling the kids what they were doing that day (going to Disney World!!)... heck, I still tear up thinking about it and it was exactly 1 year ago!

Have a GREAT trip you guys!

I hope you share when you get home!
