Now up on the member website

Thanks!! It's great to start planning for next year!!

Just thought I would share this. I went onto the dvc site and they must read these boards, because this was posted:

Maybe they heard the cries of three year planners, like me, whose plans they were screwing up???:scared:

What was incorrectly posted? The charts or the timing..? Let's see what the "updated" version looks like

I've always heard that 1 bedrooms are the easiest to book. Many families of 4 would rather book a studio than pay double points for a 1 bedroom for the same number of occupants.I always thought the yearly points total for a "unit" had to remain the same. I didn't think they could spread the points among the room sizes.

I thought this as well. Seemed the 1BR's were the "worst" deal....you can sleep 4 more people for only 70 pts more in a 2br....or at least you could in 08;)
I'm wondering if in this economy people will "downsize" to a studio and through the whole "occupancy" thing into a "new" tizzy.

That is probably true....

But keep into consideration that many "units" can be a 2BR or 1BR + studio.

So for all the Lock-offs 1Br/studios, raise the 1BR (which is what they did at a lot of resorts, we can differ on the reasons why, IMO if they raised the points on 1-br for most resorts at most times that means the demand was higher) and decrease the studio 'section' accordingly, hence the "unit" is still net neutral.

Thanks for the charts, squidmo. I saw the statement on the dvc website and it was eating at me that I didn't know what the numbers were. And now that I see them....yikes! I was not expecting such an increase. For example, Sun-Thurs during Easter break (our usual travel time) for a 2br at BCV jumps from 50 pts/night to 60 ?!?!? Thats 50 more points I'll need for a 5 night stay. That does sound like dvc is luring folks to add on....

Unfortunately for how you travel, you may/will be affected a lot. The reallocation negatively affects the many Sun-Thurs travelers. And since there were so few Fri and Sat nights being used, that's why they had to do this.

This isn't about getting folks to add-on, esp in the sold-out resorts like BCV (yes, you can buy resales, but all points are sold and "out there somewhere"). They can't start churning out more points for any of the resorts to be bought.

I feel for you and not trying to make light of the situation, just trying to help you understand why.:goodvibes

I hope they don't change it. We have 150 points, which is exactly what we need for a 2BR at most resorts, with the view we want. The new charts would screw us.

Thanks for pointing this out to me - I now went back and checked the charts and I see that the Fri Sat points are less than they were before - from 102 down to 85 - it never occured to me to even look at that. I never liked that there was such a huge difference between the FriSat points and the Sun-Thurs points - I just didn't understand why it seemed like we were being penalized for wanting to stay in WDW on a weekend. So maybe (if these numbers all stay true) we'll change our usual plans because now it won't be as much of a difference to stay on a Fri or Sat night. I'll keep waiting for the charts to reappear on the dvc site....

I would really like to see the logic behind this change, other than to improve my member experience! I don't see how this will get sunday to thursday travelers to use their points on the weekend. After all, if you didn't have enough points to stay during the weekend before the change, you certainly will not have enough points on the weekend now that weekday points have increased...unless you stay one fewer night. Even with the change, weekend points are still not a very good value on your membership. This move will benefit those with large point contracts who already stay over the weekend (which must be a minority if it is true about occupancy being low over the weekend) and those who live close enough to take 3 day weekend trips. If DVC members take more weekend trips might this backfire on Disney once park attendance and guest patterns (weekday v. weekend levels) begin to normalize?

We've always done Sun - Friday because of the point issue. We live in SC and it takes about 7 hours to get there. We leave on Friday, stay with friends for 2 nights and then check-in.

If this point system is really what they'll be moving too, it might work for us because my DD (8) has lots of long weekends with school - teacher in service days, holidays), so we could go from a Thursday night to a Sunday and we wouldn't have to take so much time off from work.

You can look at it many different ways but I know that I'd like to stay the weekend sometimes but the points would eat them all up for a Fri or Sat.

Let's see what happens - Di;)

For examples on how it might change stays read the posts directly above and below yours.

Plus cousins of ours have good amount of points at OKW and BWV, they usually take extended weekend trips (Wed-sun or Thurs-Sun sometimes just Fri-Sun) due to kids in school, work, etc since they get to fly on US Air for free, they will be taking more trips to WDW.

On the flipside, their parents are retired have points at OKW are usually Sun-Thurs travellers and take a lot of trips using the old system......Not so much now, and talking to them, they are going to be more inclined to do a few more weekends when their grandkids are there (from the previous example I mentioned)

Thanks, squidmo! :)

Here is a link to the 2009 BLT chart ... and yes, they made changes there too which is pretty unbelievable IMO.

I find that unbelievable too :sad2: we bought an exact number of points to allow us 5 nights in a 1 bed MK view ever other year but now I find that we're 5 points short. Also with the minimum add on gone up to 100 points there's no chance of doing a small add on

It really stinks that they messed with the point charts right after raising the minimum add on at BLT. Especially since they had to have some idea when they started selling BLT that they were going to do this. (Does Disney do anything without tons of planning?) It doesn't really affect me, but it does make me wary of buying (I had just won over DH when this happened and we were planning on buying in the next couple of months).

It may be legal, but I think it's a crummy way to treat members. :sad2:
