I thought I was told that when I bought that the points values would always be the same. They raise the annual dues which is supposed to cover the price increase and not the point charts.
A 2 BR in AKV at the lowest total is 270 in 2009 to 272 in 2010.
The total points owned at a resort cannot be changed, but DVC does have the right to reallocate the point charts to better balance usage at the resorts. In practice, they had only done this once - in 1996 at OKW - and many (myself included) have speculated that it would not happen in the near future. The wording giving DVC this ability is spelled out in your documents. There is even a discussion about what the point charts would be for each resort if they went to a balanced charts where all days for the year were the same for each room type.
The apparent changes are for stays starting January 1, 2010 and will not affect stays in 2009.
I honestly can't say I'm surprised at the changes at OKW, VB, HH, BWV, VWL and BWV - but I am truly shocked that they have apparently changed the points for SSR, AKV and BLT however.
Except for OKW, the earlier resorts have never been changed and were all similar from BWV on. With SSR they did change the "standard"
point chart used by the other onsite resorts and similarr revisions have occurred as AKV and BLT began sales and came online. My observation was that DVC was modifing the point charts to better reflect usage and that more reallocation would not be needed. With the apparent changes at BLT I know there are members who have purchased at BLT using the point charts released by the sales staff to provide guidance regarding the size of their purchase. Now, with the changed point chart, there are some who might want to purchase a few more points to maintain the same travel plans and they can now only buy 100 or more points.
I am really surprised at these changes overall.
