Josh Powell killed his sons. Oh, and himself.

Pure evil does exist in our world. It walks around on two legs just like the rest of us. One went back where he came from yesterday, sadly he sent two sweet little boys to Heaven to be with their moma before he left.

:littleangel: I agree.

I live in Utah and the news just came on with a breaking report about this tragic tragic situation. They reported that: the boys died from carbon monoxide poisoning, had neck injuries, and there was a hatchet at the scene. I feel ill.

I keep wondering why, if one of the children had said, "Mommy was in the trunk," and this was on file, he wasn't denied visitation immediately? Who did the child say that to? And why wasn't it seen as a huge red flag?

Hindsight is 20/20, I guess. Those poor babies. At least they are with their mom, now.

Obviously, the night your mom disappears is a huge deal.

But the boys were young, and younger when it happened. My guy is 7 just like the older boy. DS has a good memory, but I'm not sure I would want someone blindly trusting whatever he might say about something that happened in 2009. I think I would rather go slowly and carefully in making sure I wasn't hearing something different from what he's saying, and making sure I know exactly what he's saying as well, before going forward.

Obviously, in this case, the guy has shown himself to be the sort of person who would do such a horrid thing....but he might have not been, and I'm more comfortable with the assumption of innocence, though of course I feel just awful about this particular sad sad sad outcome.

Yes, it appears that Josh took a hatchet to the boys first.

From the Salt Lake Tribune:

Charlie, 7, suffered chop wounds to the neck. Braden, 5, suffered chop wounds to the head and neck. Troyer said a hatchet believed to have been used on the boys was recovered from the scene, according to the Tacoma News Tribune.

IMO, Josh Powell was a man consumed by anger and rage. Once the judge denied him custody, his fury knew no bounds. He wanted to strike out at his in-laws, making it clear how angry he was. What better way to crush their hearts and destroy them than to take away their grandsons.

It is easy to see how Powell's overwhelming rage could earlier have been turned against his wife.

They had her parents on the Today show so sad. It said the reason that he killed the boys is that the boys had started talking about the night that Susan went missing. :( The parents were more together then I could ever be.

Incredible. Heart and gut wrenching. :sad1:

I wonder if anything from his past will rise to the surface now? I wonder if former friends, co-workers, and relations will come forward. There had to be some cracks in the facade. Such a sick and twisted mind.

Yes, indeed it does. I cannot believe it my heart that any human being could do this to their own children. Every time I read a story like this, it makes me believe even more that true evil really does exist.

My prayers to the family, and the children.

I was really hoping that they died instantly and didn't know anything. The thought that their last moment was the realization that their dad was going to hurt them just tears me up. And to think one of them had to watch it happen to his brother is even more devastating. What a horrific thing to do to a child. That man is a monster.

The newest details are making me physically ill. :sad1: Those poor, sweet babies.

What an evil, evil monster.

Burn in Hell, you *******.

The children may have started talking, but I really do not think they ever would have been considered credible witnesses whose testimony could be relied upon. They were very young, they were awakened in the middle of the night and driven somewhere in the dark.

If the statements from the boys -- including the latest ones about mommy being in the trunk -- were all the West Valley City, Utah, police had, I do not think they could have made an arrest.

The parents may think that is why Powell killed the boys. I still say that an act as utterly treacherous and horrifyingly violent as this could not result simply from fear the boys would say something that could possibly be incriminating.

This is the act of a man in a fury of rage and violence who feels powerless -- and is going to prove to the world he's not.

I really really wish I wouldn't have read the new details out. An eternity in hell is not long enough for this man.

That's why I didn't post them here. I figured if people truly want to know, they can find them on their own. :(

I just read the latest details and really wish I hadn't. What a sad reminder that pure evil exists. If the POS didn't want to live without his boys, why not just kill himself.

Awful, sad story.

Made me hug my boys just a little bit tighter today. And every day from now on.
