Jon & Kate plus 8 budget?

I feel like I am stepping on a fire ant nest on PURPOSE here, but I just must say... I've been following this thread from the beginning because I was hoping it WOULD'T go the way that the J&K thread went over on the Community Board... but it did and I should not be surprised.

I just have to say this...... to all of you who are overly critical of J&K, who claim that they "hate" the show and/or they "hate" what J&K are doing to their kids, I have news for you. Your TV remote control has a button marked "OFF". When you come to a show that offends you or that you disagree with you can push that button and that offensive show disappears. Isn't that great technology??? Why would you waste your time and energy watching a show by/about people you don't like and then come over here and spend your time and energy bashing those same people???? I just don't get it. The OP was just questioning some budget choices that J&K may have. Now we are getting into a whole theological discussion about where babies come from, who has the right to "make" them, who has the right to decide how many, etc. WAAAAAY off topic.

There is another show on TLC about a family that I watched for a season or two. When I decided that I no longer cared for how they were raising their children and that I disagreed with choices they made, I STOPPED WATCHING! Easy peasy, lemon squeezie! Now I don't waste my time and electricity watching a show that I don't like and I don't waste my time on the DIS bashing them.

It's entertaining, maybe even more so if you disagree with their parenting, etc. I also find the whole fame-seeker phenomenom amazing. I wouldn't want to watch a show with a family like mine where the parenting is perfect . It would be boring.

I live in the UK and have just watch my first episode of Jon & Kate. This was the one where she is talking about budgeting and Christmas.....the one where she treats Jon like he is one of the kids in Toys r us....How dos he put up with her, she talked to him really bad at one point I thought she had forgot that he was her husband and that he was the family pet instead!

So with eight kids to provide for, save for college, weddings, health issues-all on one income, in a failing economy with a house you are rapidly outgrowing you wouldn't take the extra check from J&J or Fisher Price? I would so I could sleep at night. Its not like they are promoting global warming or alcohol.

It would be one thing this this were the truth about J&K. They are making in the millions per year now, going on free trips, having a house built for free, etc. People are still buying that they are a struggling family, and they are not!

I am not against the offers they receive, but at some point Kate should act more grateful...this is what I do not see. She just rubs me the wrong way.

I don't think of them as struggling, I think of them as smart. Having a budget, no matter what their income is smart. And who knows how long their money train will be rolling in. They do have 8 kids to provide for, over the next 18+ years, and that includes college. And where did you get this information that they are having a home built for them for free? Plus, they have only had their series for a year and a half. I don't think they have as much money as people think they do.

The house in North Carolina with the pool that someone mentioned was a beach house they stayed at for a couple of weeks while down there. I've not heard anywhere on the show they actually have bought one, just that they are looking at property.

Yes, we used IUI, which is very different from IVF. IUI is intrauterine insemination where you take meds, are monitored via ultrasound and then your husband’s contribution is placed via catheter. There are no eggs “removed” or “put back” as with IVF. So, we were truly unaware that there were 7 possible babies in there on the day that our procedure was done…or I can assure you, we would not have gone through with it!! (We were told that there were 3 with a possibility of 4 which was, by my doctor, considered excellent to proceed.)

It's one thing to take the check because you are in dire needs. It is another to sell out your kids. Historically, child stars do not look fondly on their childhoods and have problems as adults. And I believe these kids are now child stars. I couldn't sleep at night thinking about that.

You also don't mention all the wierdo's out there that are now exposed to your children once you put them on TV.

I watched for a bit.
Thought the kids were cute.
But I don't like the way she treats or talks to Jon.
He has no spine.
What are they teaching their children about how to treat the one you love.
As for their extended family (parents, bothers, sisters) only they know the real problems.
They are teaching their children to run when things get tough.
I am a woman who met the love of my life 14 years ago.
My family will not accept him.
I have 2 children with this man.
He is a wonderful man who has bent over backwards to help them.
I have always maintained that they deserve to be rasied in a loving happy home with 2 parents that love them.
My family cannot get this.
So all communitcation has ceased.
I felt that after trying for so long it was time to put DH first along with my boys.

Tee hee hee, I got a giggle because I was thinking "It isn't my DH that my family does not like.. it's me!"

You never know what happens in families, I happen not to speak to my father and his wife because of the way they treated me when I was growing up. He is now mad at me because they think I was trying to ruin their marriage...I was to busy just trying to survive the verbal and emotional abuse to be concerned with that! I don't want my kids seeing thier distain for me, and many have told me I should let it go (there would be money involved if I could), but I have certain standards, and maybe Jon and Kate do as well.

That being said, she does bounce on my last nerve with her need for perfection and his inability to stand up to her.. actually they remind me of my father and stepmother! Here is hoping they don't alienate their kids.

I didn't read this whole thread, just the few few pages, but I must say:

- On a couple shows it was mentioned that Kate is back working as a nurse on weekends. At first she picked up like two shifts per month I think and then (the reason it was mentioned again on another episode) she moved to three or four, I think.

- They have mentioned having a tight budget on the show many times. Just because the show doesn't give you every detail of their budget and doesn't show her grocery shopping (why would they, since they have already done that? Old news!) doesn't mean it doesn't happen or isn't still with coupons and all.

- They get freebies because they put their private lives on international TV. Sometimes, like with the hotel in California they were just at, the items are in exchange for mentioning the item on TV, which is why they mention the name of the Cali. hotel, show the sign for it, and show its amenities. They paid for the hotel with air time of their show.

- There is SOOOOOO much that we all don't see go on that NONE of us, myself included, can say how anything is - and certainly none of us can judge them or have "feelings" one way or another about things they do/did/say/said.

- While how Kate treats Jon might not be everybody's personality, it IS some folks' personality and style and there is nothing wrong with it. They have fun and play and joke around. I have friends who are like that and it is great seeing them love each other this way (I'm like that myself).

- Kate seems to have a mental condition called Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. If you don't have it or know somebody with it, you may very well not understand it and how things like using other people's used items, getting messy/germy, being unorganized, etc. actually can be terrifying, painful, true anxiety-provoking/panic attack-provoking, etc. While there are some things one can do to get some treatment, it is a lifelong brain disorder. So, if you wouldn't get mad for a paraplegic not standing up out of his wheelchair, don't throw a hissy fit over people like Kate with OCD.

I don't think Kate has gone back to work as a nurse. I haven't watched the show lately, but I'm pretty sure her salary as a reality star covers her expenses so that she doesn't have to work another job.

there are 3 completed seasons, the episodes showing now are season 4. The first episode (that wasn't a special) aired in April 2007. There was roughly 4 months between seasons one and two, but after that the seasons pretty much ran one into the other.

And the comment by a PP about JK8 "having a house built for free" ... according to some other Gosselin-related websites, it looks as though a house has been purchased in Berks County, Pennsylvania and they're moving to that house, not to North Carolina.

I really don't care at this point as I rarely watch the show anymore. I hope they are happy.
