Jon & Kate plus 8 budget?

You stole my answer!! Damage control seems to be the catch-all for everything nice, loving, giving the Gosselins do. The naysayers whined when they weren't giving to charity then accused them of "damage control" when they did.

I do believe the one yard sale - the one that was mentioned on the website after it had been reinvented - was PR. There have been a lot of things mentioned on the internet, and these newer shows seem to address them. Coincidence or damage control? That's up to the individual to decide .. and another one of those things about JK8 that we will never know for sure. I would like to think they've been giving back all this time - they're faithful church attenders. That leads me to believe they tithe, either financially or through spiritual gifts.

I've said all along that I would like to see them donate some of their clothes to a local women/children shelter. I would like to see an episode focused on gratitude. To much has been given, much is expected. That family has received untold amounts of Gap & Gymboree clothing, some probably very gently worn.

I get snarky about some of the other stuff that goes on with the show, but the clothes thing really bothers me. Thy may donate some of the clothes for all I know. But I'd like to see it for myself. And I wouldn't even care at this point if it's damage control.

Have you seen the episode with the family mission statement? They spend a long time talking about how grateful they are for all they've been blessed with, both the kids and the tangible things. Kate always gushes about how everyone goes out of their way for their family and how nice they all are (at special events, trips, etc.). And I often hear "We are just so blessed," etc., etc from both parents. They may not always come out and say "Thank you, ______," but I'd consider that gratitude.

I've missed that. I have heard Jon speak graciously, specifically in the Phillies episode ... but Kate? I'll have to start paying closer attention.

I did see the mission statement episode. I hope they review that statement, as a family, with regularity.

I have stayed quiet reading through this but the amount of bashing has really gotten to me. If half of you could take your passion agaainst Kate and put it towards better things, well then our world would be better. There are far worse mothers out there. The kids may have some things to work through as adults but all of us do. No parent is perfect.

You all seem to feel you are "entitled" to bash Kate. I love my kids and do the best I can but I know there are areas I fall very short in. We all do.

What they do with their belongings is not/should not be anything we need to waste our time on. Turn of your tv if you can't stand them!

If you DVRed last night's episode, she says that several times.

The beauty of living in a free world is that the people that love them are free to defend them all they want and the people that cannot stand them are free to bash all they like. If people are going to give opinions, you had better be prepared for people with opposing opinions.

It is a beauty, doesn't make it right but it is America and it is a beautiful right -and sure have opposing views but really what a waste of time to hate and talk down people.

But you know they are CHOOSING to be broadcasted on national tv what do they expect? sure i might be a waste but only in the eyes of the beholder :goodvibes anyway i do think Kate freaks out over needless things and it does take a toll on the kiddos - i have an aunt that was the same way now two if her kids have nothing to with her at all and one bearly speaks to her - and yes so is very much like Kate and when i yes is I mean still is in her late 50's! just a comperison not suggesting that Kates will grow up and have nothing to do with her just possibility....

Back to the extended family issues: ironically after finding this thread today I see TLC is running a marathon. I was just watching a cutting room floor episode from 12/17/07 that I haven't seen before, and Jon's aunt & uncle who live in FL are in it. Jon mentions that after Disney they went to Venice Beach to visit his aunt & uncle and it showed them at the beach with the Gosselins. And someone already mentioned that they went to see Jon's family while in Hawaii. Just thought some of you might be interested. It's on right now, actually. ;)

haven't seen it yet...

There are episodes where I see a very ungrateful Kate. The Disney episode comes to mind. As does cupcakegate.

I think that there's quite a difference in the Jon & Kate of seasons 1 & 2 and the newer episodes, though. Why that is, I don't know. I have a feeling that it's a combination of them (Jon & Kate) getting older, having professional representation (as opposed to handling everything themselves, which had to be stressful), the kids being older, it's not so new anymore, realizing how they're benefiting from the show, etc. In short, they've all grown up and matured a little bit, I think.
