JON and KATE plus EIGHT

so nice to read a thread by posters who actually like the show
it's a family friendly show, whether or not we agree w/ every single thing the parents say/do, it's still fun to watch & relaxing after a long day... it's like "whew! at least I didn't put 8 kids to bed!"

funny how people jump to judge & throw nasty comments when they don't know the family

one thread on the budget board states as fact that J&K are completely alientated from "everyone" including Kate's "former" BFF Beth - hello! How do they know that? Kate & Beth wrote the new book together!

PP that saw the family on vacation at WDW - just J&K? Or the whole family? Hope they do another "trip to WDW" show!!! Show the Disney!!!! LOL.

We just saw j and k and the twins...I think the twins birthday was around that time so maybe it was a birthday trip.

I didn't see any cameras, but they had about 6 people in suits around Kate and the girls as they walked through the lobby. Jon came by alone and my husband (being the smart a** that he is) said "Having a magical time?" and Jon said "Absolutely."

Anyway, they weren't filming when we saw them, but that doesn't mean that it won't be mentioned on the show.

what? do they think that they will get mobbe with fans or something? that's weird!

There is definitely some issue with Kate and her family, they do address that on one show where they are answering viewer's questions. I can not even imagine being Grandma to those sweet kiddos and not being involved.

It doesn't bother me when they bicker. Yes, Kate is a control freak. But if they never bickered and the kids never cried or hit or whatever they would seem like ROBOTS, much like that other huge family that has a show now (won't get into it, just my opinion!)

I think J&K love each other, they have a lot of passion. I think they will stay together;)

We saw them on our recent trip at WL. Kate seemed a little stressed, but it is WDW they may have been in hurry or something.

I have a love hate relationship with the show. I love the kids but Kate drives me crazy. She's too controling and obsessive. And the most recent episodes are getting away from what I like: how their life is day to day.

I do think the life of the show is getting short. Once the "little kids" start school it seems like there will be less and less to film. I just hope that they've planned for when it's over. I wish them the best, but I think I'm done watching.

We saw them too at the Orlando airport on 10/12. We were flying in for our honeymoon and saw Jon buying water. It was actually DH who pointed it out "That looks like the guy from so and so and so and so plus eight?" To which I said "That doesn't just look like him, it was him!" So we stalked him a bit in the terminal and there he was with Kate and the twins.

Yes, Jon's dad did pass away, and apparently the family was close to him. I don't think they have any issues with Jon's mom, but I think she lives far away. There do seem to be some type of issues between Kate and her parents. Her brother lives just down the street from them, and the two families seemed to have a fine relationship (he and his family were seen in a lot of the earlier episoded,) but yes I think there are definetly issues between at least Kate and her parents. As far as I know, she's never specifically addressed the issues, but hints at them often. She often says how she didn't have a lot of "experiences" when she was a child, and Jon did, and that's why they want to give their kids as many as possible, and from what she's said on her most previous show, there seemed to be some issues with their wedding ect. I would love to know the whole story, just because I'm curious, but that's their personal life, and I'm guessing still some pain there, so I completely understand that they wouldn't want the world to get involved. I also kinda thought it was weird that there friends/family (Beth, Kate's brother and family ect.) haven't been seen on the show in quite a while, however they do have the younger girl who goes on a lot of trips with them, and I could be completely wrong, but I thought she was Beth's daughter?? Not totally sure, but they had also said how they were trying to concentrate on spending a lot of family time together, plus Jon I think only works from home now, so I'm sure they don't need as much help. -I also thought Jon started working for Beth's husband?? Again could be totally wrong. -Can you tell I'm totally addicted to the show:) Either way, I think they do a great job raising 8 kids.

My understand is there was a falling out between beth and kate. which possibly had to do with money. the rumor mill has it that beth wanted to get paid from the show as she was starting to be on it more and more. Kate then cut her out basically. Of course I don't know for sure that this is true, but it is odd that all of the sudden she was gone.
I've also noticed that her brother and his wife are suddenly gone, not sure why they live down the street.
there was an episode where they took the kids to sesame place. The girl that went with them is not beths daughter, she was hired help.

DH and I were at WDW starting on 10/5/2008, and while we were there we saw Jon, Kate, Kara and Maddie! We were staying a All Star Sports with free dining, so we thought we would drive over to Wilderness Lodge to have lunch at Whispering Canyon. We were standing in the lobby, when a guy got off the elevator, and walked right between us. We instantly looked at each other, and I said" OMG! Was that Jon, from Jon and Kate Plus 8?!?!". My DH had the same look on his face, and we turned around, and sure enough it was. We watched him walk into a back entrance for Whispering Canyon. We walked back toward the restaurant, and noticed that there is a very small seating area, with only one table and a fireplace (I guess it's for celebs), and there sat Jon, Kate and the twins, with a Disney VIP guide! We love the show, so we were so excited. We were called to our table, and while we ate, we noticed that the VIP guide would go back and forth getting brochures for them. They finished their meal just before us, and we watched them walk right out the front door of the lobby.

We thought it was really cool to see them! They were not being followed by cameras, and we didn't see any of the little kids. So, maybe this was a private vacation. No one in the lobby seemed to notice them except us.

I think that is too weird.. I mean, why do they need a private table and a guide? I've heard people talk about how they have alienated themselves from family and the community where they live and it seems like doing all this "celeb" type stuff is just more alienation. Why can't they just go down to dinner like a normal family and eat? Like you said in your post, no one really even recognized them so it's not like they would be mobbed by people bothering them while they eat. :confused3

I can say this, since I'm from Los Angeles and it happens all the time at Disneyland - they really are celebrities in a sense. People will come up to any person with a television show and be very inappropriate. The guide is there as a deterrent. If the poster didn't see folks coming up to them, then it worked.

If it were you, would you want someone you didn't know coming up and hassling you during your private time? Especially with how many comments were made during this thread about how people don't like them?

Often the people who dislike something are the most vocal and ballsy.

My husband is an editor who has done some of their show promos/commercials, so he's seen a lot of footage most people haven't. He became a fan.

Here's the big thread located on the community board

(and that's just part 2, the first one reached 250 pages)

TLC offered Beth and Jodi to get paid for helping with the kids and allowing some filming being done at their house, but Kate said, No way!!

I like the show btw.

and of course I wouldn't want people bothering me while eating dinner.. and I wouldn't want it to happen to anyone else. I guess because I wouldn't bother them I just can't imagine people actually a) going up to them and either telling them how much they like the show while eating dinner or b) telling them what terrible parents they are etc...etc.

I dunno.. I guess I can understand one hand of it and not wanting to be bothered.. I just feel like they are only alienating themselves even more...

I guess to me they are not really celebrities, that's all. :confused3

Seems like kind of a contradiction. You're here on a thread talking about people you only know from tv. The country, possibly the world, knows who this family is. I'd say that qualifies them as celebs.

People are weird. I have no doubt that some crazed fan or anti-fan would run up to them and let them know what was on their minds, good or bad (twins or no twins present). Some people probably feel like they "know" the family, so they wouldn't think twice.

lol, I knew someone would bring that up. "If they aren't celebrities, why are you so interested in them and talking about them on a message board"

I guess by all practical terms of the word celebrity, they are .... but what I mean is, while I enjoy their show, I am not so interested that I would feel the need to talk to them, to want to hang out with them..etc... and I guess I feel like Kate is always trying to say how the show is who they are.. they are just a normal, everyday family..... so it's funny to me that they get special treatment at disneyworld. but then again, they get special treatment in everyday life... having a tv show... getting free trips here and there.. free clothes and products... so no matter what, they will never be "normal" .. or it's just that their version of "normal" is different than 99.9% of everyone else's.

anyway...
