Jon and Kate Plus 8. Official Thread!!

Sorry to be dumb here, but I've missed some of the shows & have no idea what all the flap is about for Aunt Jodi. Would someone clue me in? Thanks.

Short form. Jodi's sister started writing a blog saying that Jodi is no longer on the show because TLC or the producers offered her money to be on the show - paid for what she already does. Kate said "no way" b/c she didn't want anyone to make money off the children. They supposedly disagreed.

Jodi's not on the show anymore - hasn't beeen on the show. And therefore not seen looking after the children. They have a young nanny now - J and K.

No one knew if all this talk was true. The sister's blog. Then Jodi came on in a video last week to say "yes, it's all true" and to thank everyone for the support during a difficult time.

But Jon was equally involved in each girls' activity. He didn't just drive them, he was actively participating. The girls got both parents, the boys only got Daddy.
This bugged me too. I understand the reasoning, because Jodi would have to watch them all each time. This way it was only half the time.

I just hope that the next "days out" Kate goes with the boy and maybe Jon takes the girls alone.

Oh and also on the church/castle/icecream repeat they said the septs have been going to the church nursery every week since they were released from being home bound. That blows away the false claims that that are never around any other children their own age.
.
I am not sure how it normally is but in this episode the 6 were in their own group, not in a group with the other kids. This is just an observation.

As already pointed out by another poster

I agree with you on the crab thing. I'm a teacher and one of our science units is animal studies. We have fiddler crabs and when they start to die their legs fall off too :crazy2: Plus they stink. I don't think the painting has anything to do with them dying though because they "move" into new shells when their old one gets too cramped. I liked Kate's comment about the animal right's activists emailing them :lmao:

I watched more carefully this time and I also noticed that in the church classroom there were indeed other kids in the class with the sextuplets.

Some thoughts on last nights show:
*I wanted to grab Joel and give him a big hug when Kate said "he's not helping" when they were doing the cake. He looked soooo sad going down those stairs

*The hair braiding looked adorable on the little girls. I don't think Kate is a horrible mother for having it done. I cruise a lot and especially when cruising in the Caribbean, tons of parents have it done for their kids. Hannah cries more when Kate brushes her hair, so a little bit of tears for braiding seems like nothing and they didn't seem to mind it after it was done.

*Jenny's interaction with the kids is nice. Her coin trick even got a smile out of Cara and Collin trying to repeat it was priceless.

*Cara's nails. WOW! I have never seen nails like that on a 7 year old before.

*The morgue and J&K explaining to the little kids that it was a note to Marge the house cleaner :rotfl2:

*Leah's prayer before dinner. How cute was she?

*Regarding the fireworks, it was funny that they actually drive through the area and warn people about setting them off. I wish my town did that. Jon made a comment about bringing them home and doing them, but Kate told Mady and Cara that they are also illegal in Pennsylvania.

As far as the hair braiding, I didn't realize it hurts that much. DD, 8, and I were talking about getting her hair braided like that next summer at Disney. I hate when her hair hangs in her face. When she saw the girls crying, she said I don't care if it hurts I still want to get it done.

My DD had her hair braided at the GF salon during our last trip to Disney this past June. She loved it and said it didn't hurt - just felt a little tight while it was being done. My DD is 12 though; I think with the Gosselin girls being as young as they are, they were being a little "over-dramatic."

I highly recommend that hairdo for your vacation though. It was easy-peasy and a joy to not have to worry about DD's hair at all! And those freakin' braids lasted over three weeks!:thumbsup2

I thought someone mentioned a few pages back that it was deceptive to assume that Kate had no help, since there were people doing her wash, cleaning women, assorted nannies, etc.

I was watching the beach episode and only saw Jenny with the kids. Are there other nannies as well that don't appear on camera? It struck me as odd that maybe there were "invisible" people hovering around (except for the filming crew, obviously).

I've wondered about that, Donna ... specifically the nannies. I never got the impression that Jenny's primary job was childcare. I thought she had the title "family" helper ... which means she does whatever they say. (I was a family helper way back in the day .. LOL)

To the best of my knowledge, Kate still has help with the laundry. There's been no evidence to the contrary. There was an episode devoted to the hiring of a cleaning service, and I haven't seen where that has changed, either.

My question was specifically about the nannies as well. I could have sworn someone said that there were several nannies.

Personally, I could not raise 8 kids without a lot of help. Six 4-year-olds alone would do me in!

Don't know if it is true or not but I read somewhere (here?) that the neighbor that helped with laundry moved away and that that the other person wasn't helping anymore because they lived too far away.

I think verifying (such a technical word, LOL...) some of this information is going to be difficult. Most of the new shows are focusing on trips & outings, and less on the everyday life of the family. I don't think we're going to see many of the outside helpers - if there are any left - other than Jenny.

My DD was 8 when she got her hair braided on Castaway Cay on a Disney Cruise. She is tough, but I did see tears in her eyes for a lot of the braiding. I think it can really hurt, so depending on their tolerance level, the little Gosselin girls might not necessarily been over-dramatic. I do agree that the braids are awesome for vacation! They are adorable and so easy for hair maintanance and they are a long-lasting fun reminder of a trip!

I really enjoyed all the beach episodes, my family was in Corolla at the very same time and we obviously had no idea until we watched the episodes. We did a lot of the same activities that they did and had a blast. It was defiantely my kids' fav. vacation and our first time in the Outer Banks. The episodes were fun for my kids to watch.

We even had the same fireworks discusssion and did not use ours either.

Now, as for the crab and shrimp......I think it is really great that J and K expose the kids to all different kinds of foods as we see in the show, but man, they worked hard shelling all that crab...I know they said it was a special treat, but I'd be doing hot dogs for the kids and saving the crab and shrimp for me and my DH! ;) I'm a little bit of a crab-hog-aholic! Yum, yum! :flower3:

I have also read in more than one place (through googling) that Kate has a cook/chef, in addition to the nannies and the laundresses that fold and put away their laundry.

So honestly, I don't think she works quite as hard as she wants everyone to believe. ;)

IMHO I really think they were just referring to the Chef that came in for the one episode. Her name makes me think of Snow White, Sarah Snow I think.

Any consideration of deception on the TV show aside, wouldn't that be a fantastic way to raise kids? :goodvibes To have someone else doing laundry, cooking and cleaning so Mom can focus full time on the kids? That would be SO nice!

i think people may also be referring to some info. on jodi's sister's blog. she talks of j&k having (unseen or spoken of in the episodes or interviews) a personal organic chef who prepares meals for them. she tells of her parents eating it when they babysat jodi's kids (when jodi traveled to help j&k).

makes sense to me-i've always been struck by what seems to be a lack of what i perceive as food storage on the show. they have 10 people in the household but they have just the one fridge with a small upper freezer. i have'nt noticed any freezer in the garage or laundry room which would seem the norm if you are buying 1/2 a cow and other items in bulk to cost cut. just the amount of organic produce and dairy products alone for a family that size would seem to necessitate an additional fridge (unless you are running to the store every couple of days to stock up, and i seem to remember at some point kate saying she disliked shopping and it was such a hassle to take the kids along or leave them alone with jon so she did larger shopping trips as much as she could). the time alone to prepare meals for a family that size would be pretty time consuming and would'nt lend itself to the amount of time during production periods (and don't they say it's pretty much ongoing? that they don't do it all in in one chunk to air later?) dedicated to all the outings let alone the 'couch talk' filming or the post production (they do allot of voice overs that have to been done after the fact). that schedual combined with their travel for speaking engagements would make it difficult at best.

They have a large freezer somewhere. They showed it when Kate was getting ready for her tummy tuck. She cooked ahead and froze enough meals for 2 week.

some of my fondest memories as a kid are of being in the kitchen helping mom with cooking, and some of my greatest enjoyment now is having my kids in there participating. i can't say i 'enjoy' folding laundry but it's never been unusual for my kiddos to be in the room while i'm sitting and folding laundry and having great interaction with them (and when they were little they loved to help out and we would practice counting the number of washrags or talking about what shapes and colors were in a particular item of clothing).

cooking esp. seems to be an activity kids love to help out with. when my kids attended one small school each of us moms would come in one day a week to cook lunch from scratch for everyone (around 30-and while not always organic it was always vegetarian so lots of prep work) and we were never in short supply of kids (esp the little pre-k set) who begged to give up recess and come help:love: they loved feeling like they were being 'helpers' and were so proud that they contributed to the final product.

it might be a nice break once in awhile but i think i would prefer to have my kids raised with a sense of all that goes into raising a family and the personal satisfaction that can come with doing on your own.

I dunno. There is such a difference to me between, "Kids, let's make a chocolate cake!" and the day to day chore of putting dinner on the table. If you had someone to make the rest of the meal, you could, for example, concentrate on making the perfect homemade bread.
