Jon and Kate Plus 8. Official Thread!!

I saw the Crayola Factory episode for the first time last night. Surely Kate has heard of washable markers? I think she is getting worse as time goes on. Geez! Let them be kids and get messy now and then. Wear old clothes! Way back when on this thread, I used to defend her..LOL! I still enjoy the show. Kids are always cute :)

The funny thing is, I was watching the Jon cooks dinner episode last night and when he went out with Joel and Alexis, Kate did a project with the other kids where they were using what looked like Bingo markers to write their names. You know those things with ink in them and the sponge on the end that makes the dots. She didn't seem stessed out while they were doing that.

A lot of people seem to get worked up over the "stuff" that the family gets. The free stuff is not limited to the Jon and Kate crew. It makes for better TV when the families are actually out doing things than sitting in their homes on the computer or playing outside. The families they spotlight obviously have appeal to the viewing public, so why not spice up their lives a little by sending them on vacation or letting them go on a local jaunt.

The Duggars went to Disneyland on one of their specials and had a CM escort through the park. They presented them all with gold ears with their names on them and they had a private meeting with the characters.

The Roloffs have been on many trips. They talk about their financial woes, but rented a private yacht in the Caribbean for a week, which I'm sure TLC provided. They also had an awesome experience in Hawaii and stayed in a beautiful resort. They also get free stuff just like the Gosselins to promote on the show. There was a whole episode where the kids and parents were playing with their new Wii and every family member must have said Wii 20 times. It was obvious that they were a new sponsor.

That's how the network makes their money. We can't blame Jon and Kate for that.

Snow White - I hope your treatment is successful for PCOS. I have two daughters who are PCOS success stories! I was treated with Metformin for #1 and got PG right away. Then I must have become Fertile Myrtle, because without any meds, while still nursing and not having gotten my period, I got PG with #2 when #1 was less than 4 months old.

I think I need a show on TLC! :)

Denae

I'm just undergoing testing, not sure I have it yet, but thanks!! Fertile Myrtle...:lmao:

Hmmm, what can I do to get a TLC show...:upsidedow

I have always had the impression that daddy Duggar can squeeze $1 out of a penny. He just seems smarmy to me. :rotfl: He may be a perfectly nice man ... but the preacher/politician personality gives me the willies. LOLOL.

There used to be a HUGE thread about the Duggars on the DIS. I have no doubt there are many blogs and boards about them as well. Because let me tell you, people feel as strongly about them as they do about the Gosselins.

Hey! I thought you were out for a few days. Just can't stay away from the DIS, huh? :rotfl:

I had unexpected internet access ... I love it when that happens!

and now I'm home. :cool1:

This thread stopped cold yesterday. It will pick back up on Monday, though ... isn't there a new JK8 episode?

Yes - they go on another outing - to the Strasburg RailRoad and a visit with Thomas The TankEngine. Guess we should be prepared for more criticism about the "special" treatment they'll get there.;)

Oooh!! We went to the Oklahoma Railway Museum when Thomas came. It was lots of fun (and budget friendly!!).

I will hold off on making any judgements until I actually see the episode. I also pledge to formulate my own opinion before visiting GWoP. :)

Oh - I wasn't referring to you. I find your posts quite reasonable (most of the time!;) )

Looking forward to tomorrow's episode. I did notice that the lineup has changed though....next week (8/11) was supposed to be the "looking for property" episode and now it is a two part episode about taking the kids to the beach when they head down south for a speaking engagement.

I can't wait to see that! We love the Strasburg railroad and have been there many times.

I have to stick up for Kate here a little even if it means I'm going to get flamed. She has gotten a lot of slack for how she acted at the Crayola Factory. For those of you who didn't like how she acted, have you ever been to the Crayola Factory? Seriously, that place is a nightmare!LOL It's big, not well laid out and it gets really crowded in there. BTW, when I took my kids there, all the hands on/play stations didn't have any washable markers or crayons, just the regular kind. Yes I know kids should be allowed to be kids, but I don't blame Kate for not wanting her kids with marker all over them and their clothing, then having to get the stains out of 8 outfits!LOL;) Yeah, I am a little like her. For example I agreed with her when she didn't want her kids rolling down the hill when they were at the ice cream place(the ice cream for dinner episode) I maybe anal, but I don't let my kids do that in their nice clothes, especially when that hill is so close to a parking lot!

I have no problem with them getting things free and getting special treatment when going places. Good for them!

I really enjoy the show and my 5yo DS loves watching it too. He gets a kick out of watching the kids.

My girls love watching it with me, and for the most part I let them because it's a nice family-friendly show. But I didn't realize how much they pick up from it. I heard my girls talking about the show to their friends, and my younger one said, "The reason Kate had twins and then sextuplets was because she couldn't get pregnant on her own, so she turned to fraternity treatments." ROTFL, but also, OMG!! She was quoting the old beginning of the show. She doesn't even know yet that she and her sister are also the result of "fraternity" treatments.

This is a family board, so I'm refraining from making any fraternity jokes. :rolleyes1

:rotfl2: Fraternity boys have been known to be helpful in that area, so what she said does make sense.

You won't seen any criticism here. Personally, I think it's a great marketing plan for places like Sesame Place and Strasburg railroad. I'm willing to bet that they get a lot of business because of it.

Did you notice how none of Kate's kids wanted to sit with her on the train ride?? Gosh,, I wonder why??

She would not even fix the daughters pants that were falling down!!!!!! Well,, why does she have pants on that are too big then??

yeah ... I'm not loving it tonight.

The shorts thing was not good. How long does it take to adjust shorts? I know it's frustrating, but kids are in much better moods if their clothes fit. I've found that out the hard way myself. LOL

I expected (and am ok with ;) ) that they'd get to go for free. But, they got a whole train to themselves ... which was nice, I guess. Not necessarily fair to those that paid to go, and who had to wait because the Gosselin entourage took up a whole train. But I get that that's how things are.

BUT. But. OMG. The smaller train tour. The one that Kate complained about? She complained about the man explaining about the train they were on? For FREE? She complained on national TV? (And yes, yes she did complain. I watched it. I know what I saw)

Oh she was clearly complaining.. Hello,, it was FREE!!!!!!!!! She just seems so ungreatful for the freebies, like they owe her. Oh, did you see next week??

They are going on a trip...!!!!!!!!
