I just googled wholoesomewear. OMG:scared1: Gotta show those pictures to my DDs!

As far as them giving back - well I agree that would be a great example for their children but honestly if I were in their shoes I would be socking away every dime I was earning from the show, endorsements and even the sale of the outgrown kid's stuff because they have to know that their extended "15 minutes of fame" will end as suddenly as it began and if they aren't smart with their $$ now then they will be struggling in the future.
I also agree with this statement. The other thing I was thinking is that somewhere in the Bible it says to not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing. In other words, when you do good, don't go around bragging about it. Keep it between you and God.

We don't go around bragging about any volunteering/donations we do, and I'm sure the Gosselins don't either.

Just my take on the situation. :confused3

Definitely wholesome! There's no disputing that! :rotfl:

Donating is always a touchy subject. Just like the Gosselins, when word comes out that a celebrity (i.e., actor/actress) have made a donation, people are like, "Yeah! They should! And they should do more! But they're probably just doing this for the publicity!" Conversely, if the celebrities lie low about it (I'm thinking Katrina here), people get all upset that they're not "giving back." ;)

Also, the chores episode was on last night. Did anyone notice that when the kids put their dirty clothes in the hamper the sign Kate made for it had the blurred censor thing over it?

I'm thinking it may have been because the stickers were not from a sponsor (like, maybe they were Spiderman stickers). Does that make sense? Like sometimes people's t-shirts are blurred because they're advertisments for companies that haven't paid to advertise.

But. But. The part I can't get past is that SO much (if not all) of what the Gosselins have has been given to them. They are making $$$ on the show and the speaking engagements ... they are more than just regular folk, now. It really sticks with me that they have a garage FULL of shoes - and I wonder what they do with them when they're outgrown.

Haha!! DS probably has the same amount of shoes as all the 8! :lmao: For some reason, he ends up getting shoes constantly. As a matter of fact, I just bought four pays of Target clearance shoes! The barely worn, I donate, the unworn I consign and the overly-loved, I burn! Not really, but I'm willing to bet that those kids are as harsh on their clothes as DS, so it's not like they have a surplus of mint condition clothes to sell/donate. The sale we do, all clothes are inspected for wear and tear, so I'll bet they do just donate the not-so-new items. Someone did mention that Jon donated his ugly sweater to Goodwill. I remember that episode.

Unfortunately, J&K are in a damned-if-you-do, damned-if-you-don't situation now. If the next episode showed them donating all their old clothes, shoes, linens, dishware, etc., in preparation of the move we're all anticipating, what would happen? Would people throw up their hands in relief and admit that J&K are giving back to their community? Prolly not. Prolly people would roll their eyes and say they were *only* doing it for the publicity. Even if J&K donate stuff all the time and just aren't ever filmed, no one would believe them, y'know?

Yeah, that was my first thought, too.

I just had a revelation. LOL. I can't remember if I read it here ... or if it was over at GWoP. I'm thinking it was GWoP because it was nastiness that I hadn't seen here. LOL. Anyway ... there was discussion about Sesame Place and how the kids were in SS bathing suits, had the towels, etc. and that they were probably freebies. In the discussion, there was someone really hung up on the fact that the girls were wearing leather sandals in the water park and how awful that was.

That episode is on now. And Kate just said something about how they aren't water park people ... and I'm wondering if the plan for the day did not include the water play area. None of the adults had bathing suits. Jenny went on some raft ride in her clothes. If they didn't plan on being there, that would explain the leather sandals on the kids. I don't know that Kate intentionally set out to have the girls in leather sandals in the water park. There must have been some other issue with the shoes, though because the girls were wearing flip flops after they left the play area.

Anyway. Just an interesting observation. LOL.

The girls (at least the little ones) had on SS suits too. They had Elmo on the front. I figured that they weren't expecting to use the water park, but because of the heat decided that they needed to. The suits and towels, which were also from Sesame Place were probably given to them. When Kate folded the towels in the strollers she did it so that the characters were visable.

What do you have difficulty understanding? That she shouldn't have kept all the babies if she knew it was going to be hardship financially?

Do you apply your logic to couples that have prenatal testing and find that the child they are carrying may have birth defects and complicated medical issues? Should those parents be left high and dry by the state if they decide to continue the pregnancy and have a child with long-term special needs? Due to advances in medical technology, not only are special-needs children living longer lives; their families are now able to care for them in their own home rather than having them "institutionalized" as was done years ago. But caring for these children at home takes alot of money, and believe me, private insurance doesn't even cover HALF of what it takes. But, based on your logic, these families knew what they were getting into and therefore the taxpayer's money shouldn't go to their children's care either.

I understand where Kate was coming from with her arguement; but like a pp said, she may not have said it the right way.

i see the two situations in an entirely different ways.

in one the parents likely did'nt know what they were getting into prior to conception-they did'nt know what they were getting into until it occured or was revealed in pre-natal testing. in the other the parents chose a course of treatment that came with full disclosure regarding the instance of multiple births, and had experienced a multiple birth previously through the procedure-they knew full well that there was a probability of multiple births.

that aside, the medicaid issue with the gosselins was'nt based on medical need (they received what they were eligible to when the children had medical issues). their appeal was based on kate's statement that she could not manage 8 small children and preferred to use the nurse over other caregivers available to them. to me that is a care issue wherein a personal preference exists regarding selection of a caregiver.

Regarding the "love offerings" do we know, as a fact, that this is something the Gosslin's require and not something the chruch's are doing on their own. It seem that when one church (business) does something others want to follow suit.
I think that's part of the problem - we don't know anything for sure. Maybe when a "plate is passed" it helps to cover their traveling expenses? Nobody really knows but people are pretty quick to assume.

I missed anything about a sign in the front yard. What does it say exactly?
I can honestly say I would freak out as a mother too if strangers came into my yard and talked to my children.

The sign apparently said "Do not stop in front of the house, do not take pictures and do not stop to talk to us"

while a simple "No Trespassing" sign would have been more appropriate, I think they are annoyed with people invading their space. Hopefully, when they move to their new house they don't show the front on TV.

Now, I know people are going to say that they make their lives public, so they shouldn't complain about people stopping by the house. I agreed with that too until I've read some things on different sites about people going up to their door and knocking because they want to say hi or want to meet them, people driving to their neighborhood (some from far away) just to see the house. One lady even posted pictures of herself in front of their house. She claimed that they weren't home so it was okay, but their big van was in the driveway so who knows? It's just really freaky how close some people try to get. There is one blog where the woman who writes it speaks like she would make a better mother than Kate and she calls the kids "my friend". :scared1:

The Gosselins have difficulty with wording things, as evidenced on their website too, but I don't blame them for wanting to keep the freaks away.

I am not sure which medication she took, but Clomid results in only a 5% chance of multiples - mostly twins, uncommonly triplets, very rarely more than that. Gonadotropin results in a 20% chance of multiples - mostly twins, uncommonly triplets, very rarely more than that.

I would probably play those odds to have a child, and I would be thrilled with twins.

Really, no one who takes fertiltiy drugs believes there is a snowball's chance in hell that they will have sextuplets.

Here's the thing: NORMAL people are offended by the sign, but they aren't the ones who do stupid stuff like that. It's the weirdos who wouldn't think twice about going past a No Tresspassing sign to talk to the kids. It's the weirdos you have to worry about.
The weirdos probably aren't offended at all. But they are the ones you have to be mean/blunt with.

If I found myself in their neighborhood, I'd probably want to drive by too, just to see for myself, but would I stop and talk to them? ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!

I agree with all of this. These people are dammed if they do and dammed if they don't. I know they brought it on themselves by having a TV show. But people are just cruel. But I think a lot of it has to do with jealousy. The poor woman even gets ripped apart for the earrings she wore to SP. Honestly, I would have dressed the same way, I'm not a water park person either and I didn't ruin my kids lives because of it.

I did some reading at GWOP and some of those people, while nasty, and just plain funny! I bet they could tear Kate to shreds while she slept! :lmao:

Denae

I had no idea something like that existed. Wow.

I didn't either!

and you know, when it's all said and done... at the end of the day, there are far worse people out there than Jon & Kate Gosselin. Maybe worse isn't the right word. Pick whatever word you'd like: creepy, abusive, scary, backwards, nutbuckets ... whatever. This country is full of them. Lifestyles and cultures we know little to nothing about. And I have no doubt I would be horrified, surprised, or shocked (again, pick your favorite adjective) about some of the things that go on out there.

Through reading this thread, I've learned there are more than one way to see something ... and there are still things that bug me about JK8. ;) I've (sort of) enjoyed the conversations.

I'll be away from the computer for a couple of days - I look forward to catching up when I get back. :cool1:

I saw the Crayola Factory episode for the first time last night. Surely Kate has heard of washable markers? I think she is getting worse as time goes on. Geez! Let them be kids and get messy now and then. Wear old clothes! Way back when on this thread, I used to defend her..LOL! I still enjoy the show. Kids are always cute :)

From what I heard....friend of a friend type of thing....she was on injectibles...the doc wanted to cancel the cycle due to too may follicles being produced (resulting in a much higher chance in multiples) but she moved forward with it.

To be honest...having been in her shoes (still am) when dealing with infertility and all the craziness that goes with it...I probably would have pushed ahead as well. They tell you that multiple follicles increase your odds of success in an IUI....I am sure she didn't think that all of them would take.

I enjoy the show...I find it fairly entertaining...I must be shallow because I am not looking for anything from the show except a little entertainment.

I just watched the Korean dinner episode and even before that I have been amazed that those kids will eat ANYTHING! I mean, not a picky one of the bunch. In this episode they ate Wasabi Peas -- very spicy for a child and adults as well.

I see that they will eat anything that Kate puts in front of them. Are they always hungry or what? Never met a kid like that before. Makes it easy to feed them, that's for sure!

ITA!:thumbsup2 And Kate shouldn't be "blamed" for now having 8 kids to care for!

You're so right, and I don't think anyone can say that Jon and Kate don't love their kids and want to do what's best for them. I wouldn't doubt that for a minute, and after all that's what's important.

I know! Isn't it crazy? My niece would not even attempt to eat half the foods they eat. That's good though. Kate has made mention many times that she is not a "short order chef" so she makes what she makes and they either eat or don't eat. That rationale has probably made them try more foods and realize that they like most of them.

ITA - if I am ever in the infertility boat (knock on wood) I would also try many routes and many attempts as my body and budget would allow. I really do not think Kate should be faulted for wanting a family.
