Are they actually still passing the plate? I think some of the information we are seeing on the internet is old, so we may not know the current situation.

exactly - I have no idea, either. I really can't see where they would, now that they have agents/representation. And there's no way to know how long ago the last time they gave a talk where they passed the plate. It could be a year ago, 2 years, 6 months .. not a clue.

Whether they made the right choice to do the show, I don't know -it remains to be seen. I, too hope that Jon and Kate respect the kids' desires not to do the show anymore, should that day come. I can't help but think they are getting all they can out of the show while the kids are small.
I sort of think the same thing.

exactly! on all points. :)

There's no way for me to say what I want to say without someone twisting it, but I don't mean it to sound bad if it does. But here goes, anyway ;)

The Sesame Place trip was what I thought it would be - in that I assume they got in free, had private visits with characters, no waits, lots of help, etc. It was also an adorable episode with the children. I also assume that it was largely done for production value - not a trip where they decided to go, and the Figure8 folks tagged along. That may be an incorrect assumption ... but I think we all agree that the trip was done for the show. I haven't seen otherwise. And that's fine. That's what I expect of the show in the coming episodes. More outings/trips and less days at home.

The real reality is we only see a snippet of what happens. An edited version of the Gosselins reality. No one on this board (that I'm aware of) has any idea really and truly what happens on the show or in their private life. We are all forming our own conclusions based on what we see and how we live our own lives. It's easy to sit in front of a computer and question & criticize people we don't know ... to people we don't know. It's easy for it to get out of control.

:thumbsup2 Absolutely agree! I think both sides of the debate need to realize that. I think it was you who mentioned some of the supporters are just as bad a the bashers. I certainly don't put Jon and Kate on a pedestal, but I don't think they're the horrid, money-grubbing parents some of the (anti) fanatics make them out to be.

Personally for me I don't care one way or the other about the family trips to theme parks and activities that they are getting for free. What bugs me and was a huge turning point in how I felt about Kate and Jon were the hair plugs, teeth whitening, and parental shopping sprees. To me that is selling out your children for your own gain.

As far as the Banana Republic Outlet (which I totally called the minute I saw the fixtures...haha!! Shopaholic here!) spree that was on the other night, they mentioned saving up for that and it was a huge deal for them to actually go out and buy clothes. BRO is also quite a bit cheaper than BR, which isn't that expensive to begin with. That was initiated by Jon as a gift to Kate (and I believe they said just early Christmas presents to each other in general). Now, I'm just going off of their comments/the show, but I don't think anyone else can go off anything different.

My biggest hope is that someone listens & respects the wishes of those children. If a time comes where they ask not to be involved, I hope Jon & Kate respect that.

I have a DS3 at home, and if he is dead set against something, it's just not gonna happen (at least not without a fight). For example, his gramma on the other side of the family calls almost nightly to talk with him (another thread completely on this craziness!!), and refuses to hang up if he doesn't say he loves her, talks to her, kisses the phone, etc. We've had to hang up on her several times because, well, we have lives!! When he was younger, it wasn't an issue, but now he's usually playing, resting, watching a movie, etc., etc., etc. and doesn't want to talk. Can't make him do it. I can hold the phone out to him, but I can't make him "perform."
If the kids suddenly wanted to not be involved, there's not a lot anyone can do to make them. Sure, they can film them, but they can't make them do anything. Would make for a boring show.

P.S. I hate when that happens! Years and years ago when I had a Livejournal (whoa!! Olden days!), I started typing entries in Word because I would write loooong entries or answer those ridiculously loooong surveys and it would be erased.

 I just turned on the TV, and the shopping episode is on!

I just had a revelation. LOL. I can't remember if I read it here ... or if it was over at GWoP. I'm thinking it was GWoP because it was nastiness that I hadn't seen here. LOL. Anyway ... there was discussion about Sesame Place and how the kids were in SS bathing suits, had the towels, etc. and that they were probably freebies. In the discussion, there was someone really hung up on the fact that the girls were wearing leather sandals in the water park and how awful that was.

That episode is on now. And Kate just said something about how they aren't water park people ... and I'm wondering if the plan for the day did not include the water play area. None of the adults had bathing suits. Jenny went on some raft ride in her clothes. If they didn't plan on being there, that would explain the leather sandals on the kids. I don't know that Kate intentionally set out to have the girls in leather sandals in the water park. There must have been some other issue with the shoes, though because the girls were wearing flip flops after they left the play area.

Anyway. Just an interesting observation. LOL.

Interesting observation and would definitely make sense as to why they have sesame street everything on....

Although, and I'd have to watch the episode again more closely, it looked like the boys were putting on swimsuits while jon was getting them dressed that morning. But they totally could have been a material that looked like swimsuit material.

I should also add ... that I was actually siding on the side of Kate, LOL. That there was quite possibly a reasonable explanation for the whole thing ;)

And my obsessive Gymboree self would say that the boys were wearing these navy shorts ... or something like them:

Oooh those are on sale for $5.59 a pair! Time to stock up.

I know the boys were wearing Elmo swim trunks at Sesame Place but didn't pay attention to what they were wearing when they left the house.

Gymboree is actually having a pretty good sale right now! extra 20% off sale prices, and if you get Parenting magazine there is a coupon for another 20% off. ;)

Really?? Which issue?

I love seeing Gymbo on the Gosselin kids. We have all the same winter Gymmies that the boys do!

I had to catch up on the posts today...been out of town at a meeting. A few pages back someone mentioned that the perks J&K get are no different than other reality shows get and wondered why J&K get so much crap for it...I wonder how much is related to the fertility drugs. I mean there seems to be an attitude on some of the other boards that essentially J&K took fertility drugs so they don't "deserve" help/special treatment. I've wondered if people would be a bit more kind if these had been "natural" conceptions.

I can't believe the number of STRANGERS who ask me if I had fertility treatments with my twins. It is almost like they are waiting to decided how they want to comment based on my answer...I don't know it's weird.

I personally have no problems with them (or anyone else) using fertility drugs to have a baby(ies). I am single, without children but when that time comes, if I am unable to conceive naturally I would hope that I would have the option/ability to use fertility drugs.

I think what makes J&K unique (not necessarily "deserving" of the attention, freebies, tv show, etc.) is that they are one of the few surviving sextuplets/high multiples. Fertility drugs appear to be more and more popular - the difference is that many may use selective reduction, or don't work, produce smaller multiples or single children or (sadly) don't survive to term. The fact that J&K are getting the attention they are is probably a result of the rarity that they gave birth to healthy twins and then healthy sextuplets. Perhaps, the other multiples out there (whose name I can't remember but did have specials on 20/20 and the like) were approached about tv shows but did not want to do it. Or perhaps in today's world of reality tv craziness, J&K just happened to give birth to their kids at a really good time (as opposed to 10 years ago when reality tv was much smaller).

Just some observations and ramblings...:cutie:

we touched on it briefly pages and pages ago :rotfl: The Dilleys and the McCaugheys each do yearly TV show/print media updates. The Dilley parents have MySpace pages and the mom blogs a little bit - the kids are teenagers now. Other than what's in Good Housekeeping and the NBC specials, I don't think there's much known about the McCaughey family. They live in rural Iowa, I think.

There is at least one other family with multiples that has a special or TV show on TLC. I can't remember the name of it, but it used to be on Monday nights after JK8.

I think I saw the blog the PP was talking about. It started out as some interesting reading (it was one of the local paper - people much more aware of J&K situation at that time, around 2005) and quickly spiraled out of control. I quit reading, it was really ridic, some of the comments were quite harsh.

Yes that was their names - I remember watching their specials on tv.

The point to all my ramblings I guess was more in response to people who didn't really see why J&K got the tv show, all the attention, freebies, etc. And my response was what I just wrote 1 or 2 posts ago. It still seems the other "popular" multiples out there really stay out of the limelight compared to J&K. Of course I remember hearing all about those septuplets the first year or two they were born and that was a long time ago. This confirms to me that the Gosselins are the McCaugheys of the 21st century  If those septs had been born in the past couple years, you better bet that they would have been approached for the same opportunities that the Gosselins are getting now.

ETA: I really think the "love offering" should not be going on. Maybe they could collect money for charities and organizations that help families with multiples (or any charity for that matter). Do they really still pass a plate around the room coming right out and saying that it is going to the gosselins?

that link I posted didn't work, but this one should:
http://www.ccf-ag.org/

there is a picture of JK8 on the right hand side of the page. this is what is says about the event:

We are excited to be hosting the cast of "Jon and Kate Plus 8" on Sunday, September 14 at 10:00 am. Completing the requested information below will pre-register you for this event. We are asking only those within a 15 mile radius of the church to pre-register and attend, as there is limited seating available. Thank you for understanding. This event is free, but please come prepared to give in a love offering toward the Gosselin’s.

It also says this event is free.

ETA: so either J&K are speaking for free other than the love offering
or the church is paying the speaking fee and is passing the plate to off set their cost

I don't think I understand the second part of your ETA. The church is paying the fee and passing the plate to offset whose costs? Jon & Kate? Do you mean travel expenses or something?
