I find it sad that some people are falling for TLC's position. My knowledge of all this comes from prior experience with a regulatory agency auditing (investigating) Nursing Facilities. You would not believe what unbelievably gross things we find, and what big companies try to argue for the sake of saving a few dollars.

Unless you were a part of this investigation you would not know why they did what they did.

I'm not 'falling' for anything. I'm pretty good at reading this stuff (and I did read the paper work on this just like you did) and my comprehension is good. We have differing opinions. That's just the way it is, not some big mystery about not understanding or 'falling' for something. It is what it is, and all the supposing isn't going to change it. You and I really have no idea what would have happened if they fined them, because they didn't. TLC wasn't ignoring the law in their opinion, they said they felt it didn't apply to them. And in this country they would have had the right to follow up this case with that contention, if they wished. My opinion (and your mileage may vary) is that they would have, and while it's just supposing, it's also my opinion that PA wasn't sure how that would have turned out.

So, they did clear it up for the future and that's good for the kids. That's what I'll concentrate on.

Walden--thanks for the dataon Coogan's law. Had no idea that was just a Cali law.

The quote about the 15% was found on CNN--and it did say 15% of the children's income. I am not privvy if they misquoted or not and were instead of referrring to the show's proceeds.

In any case--does the paperwork command individual paychecks for the kids?

My other comments were just in regards to equity rates which in relation to past income suggested per episode--isn't all that much. But added together it could be a big chunk. As with any show--even if it is kid focused/parent focues (i.e. Cosby Show)--I'm not of the opinion that just b/c the kids make the show, that they deserve to make more individually than the parent. I don't really wish to engage in debate on that matter. I just don't share the reasoning that it is exploitive if the kids don't make as much if not more than mom and dad. (I am not meaning to imply that you or anyone else does...but I've seen that mentioned elsewhere in the controversy.)

I too do not "fall for TLC's" position either.

I find the whole thing interesting and the fact that PA DOL was silent for years...doesn't make them absent of any responsibility IMHO. I feel that combined--that is why things turn out the way that they did.

Also--since filming ended...that contributed to the outcome.

I am not of the opinion that PA is doing this out of the kindness and goodness of their heart if there wasn't some underlying *we goofed* on all parties going on. They'd have no incentive to give in so easily.

there's been the suggestion that the state of PA kept quiet, in part, due to the revenue the Gosselins created .. I have no idea if that's a plausible idea or not, but it's something I've seen floated out there.

Yeah, that too. Although I wonder just how much they would have benefitted from the shooting.

Who knows what the real reasons are. I've seen indepth explanations, and simple ones. It's prob somewhere in between.

So from the new photos, the dogs are indeed back. Also Kate was interviewed out shopping (it looked like outside the toysrus), said she's suffering from post-traumatic dwts syndrome. She couldn't watch last night so she made lunches. I enjoyed last night and I'm sorry I'll miss tonight but dh got me tickets to see Carrie Underwood for my birthday.

So, she's "too sad to watch?" Does that mean she wishes she was still on the show, or thinks she should still be on the show? Either way...very weird imo. She seemed to be embarrassed to have packed her kids' lunches? Lowly me, caring for my offsping! :lmao: I don't get her (duh!).

On the Coogan Law, don't feel bad. Many people have assumed that the CA law is Federal. Unfortunately it is not, and even the Coogan Law does not cover the children of Reality TV. PA is breaking ground here.

Honestly, I have no idea on the compensation. I don't even have much of an opinion. I would think that sensible parents would be happy to set aside a lot more than 15% in a trust for the children -- however divided by 8 or perhaps 19 in the Duggars' case. Sadly, many parents have resisted that -- which is why regulations for minimal compensation for kids are appropriate. Just ask "Arnold" AKA Gary Coleman.

I haven't seen it floated in the blogosphere, but I'm sure you are correct. Sadly, it is a possibility. One of Rep Murt's sub-committee named the elephant when he asked the DOL during the hearing whether pressure had been brought on the DOL by the Governor. The DOL guy denied it, but who knows?

LOL. I'm glad that some people are denying falling for TLC's story, but sometimes my mind goes to two favorite sayings of my British grandmother's:

"You can lead a horse to water."
http://www.phrases.org.uk/meanings/you-can-lead-a-horse-to-water.html
And,
"Don't teach your grandmother to suck eggs." http://www.usingenglish.com/reference/idioms/teach+your+grandmother+to+suck+eggs.html

No, not aimed at anyone in particular, so don't bother to take it personally, but these phrases crossed my mind and gave me a quiet chuckle.

Even though you always say these little tidbits are not personal that you often stick in your posts, I just have trouble trying to figure out why you even post them, if you aren't trying to poke at someone. :confused3
What's the point of this? I really don't get it. Glad you get a chuckle out of these little pokes.

You posted this link:

"When people say 'don't teach your grandmother to suck eggs', they mean that people shouldn't try to teach someone who has experience or is an expert in that area."

Maybe she's just sad, because she isn't on it anymore? Like I am that I'm not on a cruise when it started to hail this afternoon lol? So she left the room and found something else to do? I went grocery shopping instead. Poor substitute for me.

Took time out from work and the Dis tonight to head up north a bit, to pick up some tiny kittens (maybe 4 weeks, not done assessing them because they are so scared and piled in a bunch) whose feral mama brought them to the deck of someone's house and then disappeared. She must have sensed that it was going to snow in her area tonight, so she got them safe.

So back to being up to feed every four hours or so.

I'll be looking for names, once I figure out the boys from the girls, so I'm hoping you guys will help (I try not to repeat and it's getting harder and harder to come up with names that will get them adopted). No Disney names though, and I like them to have a connection to each other.

Yay, kittens! Have you already used the Gosselin names? The Duggar names'll get you through a few litters :)

I haven't, because the name starts the adoption process, and if they don't like Kate, their chances go down.

Really? People don't change the names of little kittens they adopt? I would never let a name influence my decision. How weird!

We took in a feral cat recently. I was taking a good look at her yesterday and her belly appears to be distended. I'm thinking she's pregnant. Of course I'm the only one that can even go near her without her running. Yesterday she did let me run a hand down her side. I really think we'll be having kittens soon. :sad2: I'll have to find a rescue group to take them if I can't find homes. She's beautiful so hopefully the kittens will be too and they will find good homes. And then she gets fixed!
No good deed goes unpunished. My DH is taking this all in stride thank goodness since rescuing her from the abandoned house across the street was my idea. :rolleyes1

Oh sure, they often change the names after they adopt, but we try to be creative, to draw them in. They see our cats/kittens on petfinder and call, and then come to the clinics to adopt. It amazes me when people tell me their reasons for not looking at a certain kitten or cat, and often the name can be a turn off to them.
Good luck with your up and coming kittens. The ferals are going crazy this year as usual. Kittens kittens everywhere.
And to keep this on topic, seldom do the mama's have as many babies as Kate!

The thread is winding down again, because the "cat" or "kitten" talk is back.:rotfl: I'd name the kittens Wally, Beaver, Lumpy, what is the annoying guys name?

Just trying to lighten it up LOL.

I have to figure out the boys from the girls before I name them..not always easy when this young and this furry LOL. But yes, those are the kinds of matched names I love. I think you are looking for Eddie. Lumpy? Hmm..not so sure about that one LOL.

I just read a Nora Roberts tri-series and the dogs name was Lumpy. It really fit the dogs nature. Glad I am done with the books, they scared the bejeezees out of me.--The Sign of Seven Trilogy.

Okay just saw on radaronline that Jon has been living with his brother but moved out and has rented an apartment in Reading, PA with several bedrooms. Could he actually by using common sense??
