Is Maksim, Russian?

I'm only asking as from what I understand, Russian dance teachers are quite different from American dance teachers. While it may be true she wouldn't have lasted 5 minutes, his statement is a perfect demonstration of why.

There are other dancers on this show not respecting their dance teachers and having bickering moments.

I don't feel it is their place to issue public statements that condemn any dancer in any way. It is unprofessional.

I think she does get the point and realizes she sucks at it.

Remember the celeb who put the coin in his butt cheeks (weird, but effective) to train for one dance and when Emmitt Smith was given a broom stick to learn proper carriage---

Those are things you do for people who do not have dancing skills in order to make the dancing real to them so that they can understand in terms and ways that make sense.

I have no dance skills. I have taken a dance class. We ladies were just chatting about it today--all of us recognize Kate's lack of skill and "mean streak" that she seems to have.

But we also recognize that when we were learning hip hop and tap--especially when we, in our 30s were learning the tap routine of my 8yo dd at the time....

It is very very very very very difficult to teach someone with no rhythmn, no training to get teh steps right.

We did have fun and we enjoyed it--but there were moments where teh teacher breezed through a seemingly simple combination and we looked at her like a monkey looking at a math problem.

Slower tempos and breaking things down to the most simplest of steps was critical if teacher expected us to get it. I'm not sure I see Tony doing that a whole lot since he hates Kate so much.

Reminds me of when I tutored my brother in math. I got it, but failed to understand why he could not. I insisted on teaching him the way I understood it. He opted to fire me and struggle through it alone.

I'm not saying this to defend Kate--but more to condemn the supposed "professionals" or are taking to the airwaves or who have loquacious friends who dish to the tabloids. It isn't professional, and if you have to defend yourself that much--perhaps it is time to learn some new tricks to deal with the grasshopper. B/c it is clear she ain't getting it. So teacher must find a new way.

Do you think Kate is putting forth the same effort and time to learn as the other stars, alleged bad coaching aside?

Yes. Maks is Russian. He is my favorite. Those abs; dang. Tony is Albanian. That smile; whoowhee.

Kate looks normal and not like a clown or prostitute. She looks pretty.

I do feel she is genuinely trying. I also feel she is genuinely sucking.:lmao:

Given her personality--it seems she has a particular way that she learns and her dance partner has too much of an ego to find that way to teach her.

(one of our hip hop dance moves--was described as putting a pizza in the oven, for example.:rotfl: I don't see Tony using such a description to help make a dance move relatable to Kate.)

I also think she has 2 left feet, no rhythm and too much stiffness going on b/c she is such a rigid person.

When a professional gets ticked off at that--the problem isn't the student. We all know the student is bad. But with Kate's personality, it is an easy scapegoat.

I had a suggestion last week that (seriously) she needs to get a full body massage prior to learning the dance and on performance day. I strongly feel that if she is assisted in getting her muscle tension released, that she could let go more. She's just too stiff for even the most rigid of dances.

ETA: Sad to say--that Tony was one of my favorite dance partners on this show. Was. He no longer is and I do feel that he isn't coming close to bringing out the best in Kate. It is a tough task for sure. And he is sucking miserabley

I'm a little skeptical about all the comments being made from the other dancers about Kate. Not that they're not genuine .. because they may very well be.

I'm skeptical because who, in their right mind, would say anything bad? It would reflect poorly on who made the comments. And also, whoever mentions Kate gets mentioned in the media. Easy and free PR.

That really puts one in a pickle! Talk about not being able to win for losing!

Are we judging Tony's technique from the little bit of footage shown even with his past record/reputation? I don't know.

I agree with you. It all smell fishy to me even if the commentary is realistic and truthful.

What if her idea of 'trying' is 2 or 3 hours a few times a week, since she is so busy being to mom to 8 kids? I don't think she is putting in the time, and Tony is not a miracle worker.

Speaking as someone who has danced from age 4 through college and whose DD is a dancer: Tony and his teaching methods and technique are not the problem here. Kate CANNOT take direction. Period. She cannot handle not being able to run the show here. The concept that anyone knows more than she does about anything bothers her so much that she cannot cope. She tried to correct Tony's technique in the practice footage in week 2. She told he he was teaching it wrong! She is in no position to give anyone pointers, least of all a professional. If she wants to learn she is going to have to relinquish control to someone who knows what they are doing, and put in a solid effort. She has to stop injecting drama and just learn.

Wow...she did good tonight (well, she danced!) and Tony - bless his heart, he did good!

Ok, Kate did so much better than last week. She actually looked like she was enjoying herself. Tony is a miracle worker! Still lots of drama and I wasn't crazy about the fact she mentioned on camera that she is dealing with custody issues but I thought she did much better tonight. My prediction is that she'll still be here next week.

She looked so much better. Her expressions were "normal", she danced a little, and smiled a lot. Good for her. Tony is something else.

according to the tweets, her score was 6-6-6... which, while I'm sure it was unintentional, is FUNNY! :happytv:

I don't see that as the case.

The professionals that were contending with their own careers were no different. (Niecy Nash today was filming a 12 hour day and then did her dance rehearsal.)

I think she is on a level playing field practice wise.

Bringing out the "best" in someone is much different than having them perform a miracle.

She seems to have had a breakthrough tonight, though. Still low scoring as expected....but much more "plausible" dance than last week and it seems that whatever is going on behind the scenes has either been remedied--or again, the show is taking advantage of showing us her worst to get us riled for ratings.

Respectfully--someone viewing this with dance experience is going to not see it the same way as someone with ZERO experience.

I have zero and was in the shoes of trying to learn as an adult--it is difficult and it isn't as cut and dired as you convey it. A good teacher, finds a way to reach the student. A bad teacher gives up and blames the student.

Tony changed his attitude and voila, Kate was able to figure some stuff out.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DIDN"T!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

She dragged the whole custody battle and the personal issues (which is all she has to offer in the way of entertainment) into the show!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Shameless!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

She is white trash tabloid garbage!

At the beginning of the show she is saying "I love you" to the camera, very dramatically while drawing a heart with her fingers, presumably to the kids?

SO if they are watching - which I'm sure they are! and if they aren't- they will see it somewhere.....eventually.

And she drags the custody battle into the show for entertainment purposes!!!!!!!!! and the then Tony says," if you don't dance well, he (Jon) wins!!!!!!!!!!!" If I was a family court judge, I would side with Jon right there. I'm sure the kids enjoyed that.

She was better this week, which is all I can say, but better than HORRIBLE is just a little less horrible.

Bleh.

Personally--I think they "stage" all that stuff.

Jon is making her life hell--awarding him custody b/c she mentioned it is ridiculous.

And yes--she was better than horrible. I think she got a point or two more than Niecy--but I don't see the problems with Niecy that the judges see.

I disagree that she is white trash and find that statement troublesome.

I didn't see the miraculous change the judges seemed to this week. I thought she was very wooden and flat on her feet. They moved way to slow and the technique was VERY watered down. What I see is him doing everything he can to teach her and Kate using her personal problems as an excuse. I get that she has no training at all and it is going to take more for her to learn, but she really seems to be resistant and making excuses. It is not so much that she is having a hard time that i have pbjection to, it is the fact that she is making excuses for dong poorly. She did it again tonight by bringing in the custody thing. I have worked with first time adult students, and it is hard to get them to a point of a natural rhythm and musicality, but that is not the issue at all here, as I see it. She is having control issues and making it very hard for him to teach her.

I'm pretty Jon isn't so fond of her, getting paid extra and all as long as HE doesn't get paid, and maybe letting him see the kids if she feels like it.
