I think J & K set out to do the show after they had the 6 but I do not think she was an "Octomom"

I have only seen table of 12 once I think....last year. They have a few set of twins?

according to TLC they have 2 sets of twins and one set of sextuplets.

Wow... I find it hard to believe the mother never had help taking care of all those babies at one time. Are you sure she did it without help?

I just Googled the Hayes they did the same thing J & K did with asking for money & help.

Table for 12 seems like a much more normal family. I think people can relate to the parents and kids can relate to the kids. The sextuplets seem so much more mature than the Gossling 6.
And yes, I believe the parents have done most , if not all, by themselves. I love the way the older boy is with the sextuplet in the wheelchair.
I see "normal" with the Table for 12 crew and i see "control" by the Gosslin crew.

They may have, but let me ask you this, Have you EVER with all of the high order mulitples that have been born over the years, seen anybody change like Kate Gosselin, She has gone form mom, to an overrated B list personality. YOu may like them and you may be able to dispute everything anyones says about the Gosselins, but I can't think of any other family that has changed and acted the was that this family has. To borrow one of Kate phrases, "It is just plain rediculous"

I'd be pretty crazy too. I really wonder how marketable the videos or pictures would be of a mom trying to keep strangers from taking shots of her kids playing -- I'd think those paparazzi would soon find greener pastures. They left Debbie Rohe alone pretty quickly after MJ's death and her being recorded on camera begging them to go away.

And I agree -- we learned a lot about reality TV from knowing what went on behind the scenes of J & K. The only other TLC show that I watch is Cake Boss, and I know he can actually decorate cakes. I find it hard to believe most of the shows they do now.

Oh I know! SOOOO fake! It is all built up fake drama! He is the WORST actor in the world. "Lets test the fireworks on this cake - oh, and lets just happen to do it outside ??? oh - look at that! who knew the cake would explode?" The painting of the bakery the wrong color? Come on.

it's not unusual to see large families set up websites and such to facilitate donations, keep people updated on their progress, etc. (although I don't see a site for the Hayes, they used to have one and now it's down?)

now, if the Hayes mom starts giving interviews about how it's society's responsibility to help care for the children ... :rotfl:

at the surface, I don't see any difference at all between the Duggars, Hayes, Gosselins, and that family on the other channel. they're all putting their family in the public eye for financial gain. how they behave after that fact is what individualizes each of them... for better or for worse.

This is the only family I've ever known of that was able to get a regular, high rated TV show that lasted 3-4 years that was followed so closely (Duggars, Hayes, Roloffs, so far hasn't had the audience that the Gosselins did). I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens with the Haye's and the other familys, such as the Roloffs. I think being on TV itself is wearing, and I do think we are seeing that already with the Roloffs. Apparently TLC thought Kate and Jon were personable, as did the places that had them and later her come for talks.
The Dilly's had the movie, but at the time that came out, it was discussed about perhaps doing more with them, but I remember at the time, they weren't considered very good TV material (although even then, I remember when she had her teeth fixed, comments were made that she was trying to be more appealing). They did have a lot of help when the kids were born...material and physical. I remember at the time they had hoped to capitalize more on the size of the family, but it just didn't happen. There wasn't a TV station that wanted to pick up on it. Maybe there just wasn't interest back then among viewers. They too had family problems.
I see all of these families in the same light. They are all on TV to make money. Kate may have been more pushy about it, but you call it potatoe, I call it potato. The kids (in the case of the Roloff's it's their dwarfism) are all the only reason all of these parents are on TV, so they are all using the kids for fame.

Do the Haye's get any social medical help with their daughter, such as Physical Therapy, etc? I know in our area, there are things set up for speech therapy, physical therapy, etc, that is under a social program, since many times insurance doesn't cover the one on one. Not that I don't think they shouldn't be able to get it, if others can, but I am curious about that.

I don't remember a lot about when Kate said that (except I know she did), but wasn't that when she was trying to get the nursing for the tups help extended? Was she looking for more of society's help at the time she files to get the nurse extended, or just the continued medical help? Was it more than that one time? It's brought up so often, I am curious if that was an ongoing topic with Kate. Did she talk about it in her speeches?

I TOTALLY agree! I have a brother that this happened to and Steves wife needs to open up her eyes. Same exact situation. His wife worked for the same boss for about 13 years. They were always close, probably closer than a boss and employee should be, but he had a great wife, and we all didn't think much about it. In the last 5 years or so...things started just getting weird. He started doing things like picking her up for work so they could drive together. Of course they travel alot together. My brother wasn't likeing it, and felt uncomfortable about the way the boss looked at her, but he didn't know what to do. These two sort of hid their relationship by acting like the families were so close, that it was nothing unnatural. She would have him and wife for dinner. He would stop by on Saturdays to see the kids. He started coming to ALL of the kids baseball games on Sat. Acting like the grandfatherly type (he is MUCH older than my sister-in-law)that was enjoying watching the kids grow up. All the while patting my brother on the back and acting all palsie with him. What they were doing was putting him in to the kids lives to the degree that when they both finally left their spouses, my brother kids already loved him and were ok with him as a stepfather. Sick. Sick stuff.

This is why it is just inappropriate to have certain types of relationships out of the workplace. It isn't professional or right to have your boss or employee in your families life. It's just not. He needs to go home at the end of a work day and have a seperate life from Kate and her family. Not have holidays and days off together too.

I can totally see Kate doing this. Just putting Steve in her kids lives even at holidays and things even if it means brings his wife and family over. This way when he finally leaves his wife, her kids will already know the step brothers and sisters and know their mom. It is all just a waiting game. Slyly placing people in each others lives waiting and planning for her future. Just wait. This is what is up.

Yep, exactly!

Did anyone see Barbara Walters interview Kate last evening? We were watching a movie on the Hallmark Channel till 9:30 p.m. and I missed it.

Anything is possible...but there really is nothing to support this theory. It would mean they are both very sick or evil.

If he were single, I'd hope Kate would end up with him..he seems to be kind around her and the kids. But he's not, and I'd hate to think either of them were conniving to do this. Even Jon said he made that up, that he didn't really think they were 'together'. I have no idea what kind of marriage the bodyguard has, but his wife has said Kate has become a friend. I hope they aren't doing this behind her back.

I have no idea. I know very little about the Hayes family. I heard mom say in an interview that part of why they chose to do the show was because of the special needs child, that they may have more opportunities ...

that was when they were trying to get the nurse extended. IIRC, the children had been cleared medically and there was no reason for the nurse to stay. it said once (that I'm aware of) in a newspaper or TV interview in 2005 and has been repeated over and over since.

It is not part of her speech.

Thanks..so Kate prob tried for it once, and that was that, and she has to live with it being repeated over and over. I'm sure she isn't the only person who felt that she wanted as much help for her kids as she could get. And prob not the first person trying to get something she really wasn't supposed to have.

I don't remember if it was extended, because that was way before the show and the money started to come in.

OT, this is about the Hayes:

I don't know a lot about the Hayes either. I was suprised that they had used fertility drugs after having two sets of twins. Apparently Mrs Hayes didn't want her daughter to grow up like she did without a sister.

I wish the medical people would offer more info on what the chances are that you may have many kids. I did find this whch tells me at one time (although this was very recent) they too were looking for donations:

Donations for the Hayes Family can be sent to (I blanked it out):
XXXXXXXXX Church
XXXXXXXXXXX
Hoboken, N.J., 07030

100% of your donation will go to the Hayes Family. Make checks payable to "Our Lady of Grace Church" and please write "Hayes Family" in the notation. A tax statement will be sent to all donors of $250 or more.

I think they've had a TLC trip to Niagara Falls and an aquarium and mom a trip to the spa (although she didn't want to try some of the spa things) as well as a trip to the beach. And here start the free trips they prob couldn't have afforded otherwise. They do seem to be a nice family. I hope they don't go the way of the Gosselins. They started off slow too.
On another board, they said their house was inherited..I hadn't read that anywhere else so I don't know if it's true.

But be careful Hayes family. It's just a small jump to be like the Gosselins. You have a great family, and a great relationship. But it's not that far away from TLC owning you.

bingo.

My friends got married at that church. :happytv:

You know what they say about being a cops or ministers kid:laughing:

Or that they are like my ex-sister-in-law and are just extremely self-centered, egotistical and selfish. I'm telling you, some people think it is ok as long as they are getting something they want. Their ends justify their means. It is a form of sickness to be this self-centered, but to meet my ex-SIL, you wouldn't think she was evil.
