Jon and Kate Plus 8 Official Thread - Part 6

It was so sad when Kate said she hoped that she and Jon could spend holidays together for the sake of filming episodes; she didn't mention the kids...

I thought she did say, that she would film together for the sake of the kids to be with the kids on all holidays? Maybe it's two different times. Mine was on a show, I think it was a voiceover, during the mother's day show.

I was referring to her answer when Regis asked how the show would change. Would it be her and the kids then Jon and the kids. She said,"yes but hopefully we'll get some episodes filmed together like holidays..."

But honestly how would the kids benefit from the two of them being together with all the tension we saw on the first day of school?

I was flipping through the channels just now and tlc is showing the episode around sept. 11 of last year. Jon has the kids all by himself for 3 days while Kate goes on her book/speaking tour. Funny how things can go sooo terrible in one year. They actually look like they love each other. It was sad watching it. Maybe Jon and Kate need to watch the rerun.

If the tension doesn't ease, maybe they'll get to do half days so they can both be with the kids on the holidays.

I agree WhitneyNC, Kate is talentless. I have heard her and Jon described as nobody's who became somebody's because they were on tv with their 8 kids. I have never heard of another multiple child family that could compare to there lifestyle. People think because they have 8 kids that they should get everything for free. Here is a family who lived off peoples donations and shopped at the Salvation Army to living in a million dollar house and go on countless vacations, besides house and kitchen makeovers.

There marriage was in trouble from October (according to reports) and yet Kate walked around doing her book signings and appearances like there was no problem. She will do whatever it takes to stay in the public eye. She doesn't care who gets hurt (kids) as long as she benefits in the end.
Jon is history to her--you can tell by the way the TLC filming is going that he is not long for the picture. The next big announcement will be when the divorce is final. Of course, this is all IMO.

I don't believe they should get everything for free. I believe that a lot of the things you keep saying they are getting for free, they are actually working for.. just not in a traditional way. Also, I don't see anything wrong with how they went from needing donations to living in a million dollar house. Would it be better if they needed donations for the rest of the life? If they used donations to buy a million dollar house, then I would see the problem but they went from needing help to finding a way to provide for themselves. Everyone wants to improve their circumstances and I'm happy for them that they found a way to.

There are lots of people with marriages who are in trouble that pretend everything is fine. Until divorce is the only option, why should a couple be obligated to tell anyone they are having problems? They might find a way to work it out.

I disagree with your statement about Kate not caring if she hurt her kids. I think she and Jon love and care about their children very much.

This family did not get from rags to riches without stepping on toes and burning bridges. They gave up their kids most private moments, they took advantage of peoples donations and now they are airing their divorce out for the whole world to see. As past posters have said, the show sponsors pay for a lot of freebies and trips for them. Its amazing what a company will do to try and get their business out there. Those houses on Bald Head Island rent for thousands of dollars a week. Are the Gosselin's that needy that they needed to stay there for free?? I think it would of been nice for the owner of that house to rent it to a "Make a Wish" kid's family or someone who would really appreciate it.
As I stated before, its really nice that this is a discussion board and everyone can give their opinion and what they have heard about this family. Not everyone will agree and thats fine.
I feel sorry for these kids. They don't have a choice and never did if they wanted to be photographed and filmed. That's just IMO.

You know, it really never bothered me about the freebies. Companies needed advertising and the Gosselins paid a very high price for that advertising to be shown UNTIL they went to Hawaii and the hotel responded by saying "this family deserves a vacation with 8 kids, they deserve a break". That pushed me over the edge for some reason.

And while we are on the topic, another thing that really irked me was when viewers sent the kids gifts because "they had to really stretch this Christmas" and Kate said "who are we to say no?" That rubbed me the wrong way because at that point it was very obvious that they were not living paycheck to paycheck and being in that situation before you would think they would have kindly asked them to donate the gifts or just said no. I don't know, again, rubbed me the wrong way.

dmrick- I have heard Rachel Ray is pleasant and gracious. Good to hear a first hand account. Probably why she remains popular, non controversial and not over exposed. I thought the food network suited her better than a talk show.

I've heard she has a potty mouth. :lmao:

and I agree with Doris in that I'm not a fan of the talk show. My favorite show of hers was the $40/day travel show.

Good note :thumbsup2. I think we sometimes forget that these freebees are part of the show for filming and payment.

I was glad when I saw a lot of the free toys they had been given at the garage sale (and at that time they said they had them yearly with the proceeds going to a charity) still new. And the money from that went to children's cancer. At least they were not tossed. I'm sure not all of them did, but some. The personalized clothing that people sent would have been a tougher giveaway.

I agree. Nicely worded post too!:goodvibes

Oh, I loved, loved, loved $40/day! DH and I would watch it all the time. Of course the only drawback was that it made us hungry!

I agree with the others...I don't care for Rachael's talk show and 30 minute meals has been over done IMO. I have her cookbook and haven't made a single thing in it, ever!

As far as Kate not having any talent, I always thought she was rather funny on J&K+8. I realize I'm in the minority here. I think she might do well on a talk show, she has witty things to say at times. As long as she doesn't say 'we can't go back, we can only move forward', then she'll be fine!:lmao:

That they SOLD at the garage sale. I would certainly hope that if they were given something for free they wouldn't then sell it and keep the money. That would be tacky IMO.

Why not give the toys away to needy families and donate *in private* their own money?

I believe it all went to charity, the Pediatric Cancer something or other. I remember because the sign was spelled wrong! I think it's nice to have a garage sale and give the proceeds to charity. Weren't Cara & Mady also helping out by selling drinks for charity too?

I can understand that. At that time, they were making enough money to pay for a vacation on their own and it would have been great for them to give back by asking people to donate gifts instead. But I think the Hawaii hotel thought if they said something like, "We're hoping that by giving the Gosselins this trip, it will convince a few viewers to spend their money with us".. they would drive away business instead of attracting. I see the "freebies" like the "freebies" I get from businesses but on a MUCH bigger scale (J&K* freebies). For example, all the tote bags my mom uses is from a bank or a different business that has their logo on it. They gave the bags to her for free so that when she walks around with it, she's advertising their business. The only difference is that my mom doesn't have a contract saying she has to be seen with it for x amount of time to get it for free.

Yup, Cara & Mady sold drinks for charity. They also had a sign about taking pictures with the family for a donation but TLC only showed people taking a picture with Kate. If I remember correctly, some of the things that weren't sold were also given to Goodwill or Salvation Army.

I think she's funny too. I'm not sure how to describe it but she has that type of humor that can be misunderstood easily.

Yes, it's like a blend of quirky and sarcasm! I have an enormous family and sarcasm is our middle name!

Reminds me of a medical fundraiser that my girlfriend (through her brother) donated a NFL team football signed by all the players. It was suppose to be for an auction. Medical fundraiser happens and no football. Turns out a "family member" who was on the fundraiser committee decided he wanted t the football and felt donating $100 was enough to cover it.
My girlfriend was so angry along with other friends who were hoping that they would make over $1,000 on that prize.
I know at one of Kate's appearances in Michigan that a planner of the event wrote a letter to Kate stating how she felt about the event. She pointed out "graciouness, the lesson you left out". Apparently Kate was telling a story about how she wrote a check to a family in need only to open her mail box and find several gift cards sent to "her family in need" so it made up for the check she wrote.
