I caught that as well and had to shake my head. Then I thought, well if this is around the time when the cheating started then I would have been barking at him as well.

I didn't see that comment any different then the other comments she gave him before....even before the "troubles" started.

:confused3

I found the episode hard to watch due to the divorce in progress...even if it was filmed before. I fast forwarded through most of what I watched on DVR this morning. I just didn't feel it this time.

Jon & Kate Plus 8 returned last night with two new episodes after a brief hiatus. The show was put on hold following the June 22 announcement that Jon and Kate Gosselin were separating after 10 years of marriage. While TLC had said that nearly 50 episodes were in store for the fifth season of the show, production went on break while the family worked out the logistics of their separation--no easy task given the family's 8-year-old twins and 5-year-old sextuplets. Packing them all up every other weekend to go to dad's house simply isn't an option, so the kids will remain in the family's enormous $1.3 million home in Berk's County, PA while Jon and Kate take turns living with them.

In the second new episode last night we got our first glimpse at a post-separation Kate as she took her "first official turn" with the kids. And while we may have expected a whole new format for Jon & Kate Plus 8 (or more like Kate Plus 8 since Jon Gosselin barely had any screen time) the show was filled with the things that made their fans fall in love with the pre-scandal Gosselins in the first place: a unique family going through the everyday events of life. Gone were the product placement-filled outings (like the staged vow renewal in Hawaii) and celebrity cameos (like Chef Emeril Lagasse and the cast of American Chopper) and back were a charmingly frazzled mom with her eight quirky, funny and lovable kids.

The saying goes that a person has to be broken down before they can build themselves back up again, but Kate Gosselin never appeared so resilient or relaxed than she did while attempting to camp out in the yard with her eight children. In previous seasons we watched a tightly-wound Alpha Mom struggle with organizing pine cones in the garage and losing it when Aunt Jodie let the sextuplets have gum. We'd already seen a terrified Kate dart back and forth between the kids while they roasted marshmallows in Season 4, but in last night's episode she carefully yet casually monitored her brood while they enjoyed s'mores over a campfire she single-handedly started.

"My new attitude is that I'm going to do things that I have never done before" said Kate as the episode began. "I just put a screen in the window for the first time in my life." Even though the mom of eight has continually said that everything she does is for her kids we finally got to see her walk the walk. What self-proclaimed "indoor girl" wouldn't feel overwhelmed when their kids ask to sleep in a tent in the back yard? Even as her children noted that Daddy knows "everything about a tent" and Mommy couldn't set up a tent because "she didn't know what she was doing and she's a girl" she ignored their cat calls and did it anyway. Hearing Kate say that she has "lost her ability to plan" was refreshing. Watching her emerge from her normally strict and organized shell allowed us to see the truly caring and loving mother underneath; an element that was previously overshadowed by barked orders and patronizing remarks.

It's tough to go through a separation, even with one child, let alone eight, but the Gosselins are going through what so many families deal with every day. What will future episodes reveal? Will we get to see Jon have his own time with the kids? How will Jon and Kate adjust to living in their own space while taking turns living with the children? Will we get to see the Gosselin parents living the single life? Will we get to hear what Cara, Mady, Alexis, Aaden, Hannah, Colin, Leah and Joel think about the divorce? Somehow, Jon & Kate Plus 8 has suddenly become one of the most real reality shows out there.

Was it whirlpool? It's possible she kept those appliances with the remodel, someone will have to let us know, otherwise, oops too bad for Whirlpool!

no, the episode I'm thinking of was at the other house. I'm almost certain it was the one with the wii. or maybe the vtech toy thing.

Ooooh, what a dream job that would be!!:cloud9: Sign me up with Kate!

As far as the Hershey bar thing...seriously, what other chocolate does anyone use besides Hershey for smores? It doesn't bother me in the least that they showed a commercial for it or the one for Coleman's camping supplies either. That's just the way it rolls...advertisers want to plug their products in so they pay their fee and J&K+8 get some of the benefits. I was seriously clueless that any of that stuff was product placement till I read it here!

I agree what else can they use? When you are opening a Hershey bar with kids you are talking it up...it is a big treat. I hate watching shows when they tape over the product name.

Kate is in HERSHEY country talking it up is good for the whole area.

Water wings don't bother me, in a small home pool, with people watchng. All the kids have had swimming lessons, and I find the arm wings just give a little confidence. Helmets, or the lack of them is a no brainer to me. I've been there when a little one fell without one..it's pretty scary. Just have to hit the edge of a curb, or a decorative stone to cause some real brain damage.

Ok my DS5 walks around with his finger in his belly....so much so that we've actually put a band aid over it to keep him from doing it. Can't someone teach Jon to cover his belly up too??

EWWW! :scared1:

I would even say it was less harsh than many of her comments from previous seasons.

Well, we spend our summer in a campground (yes, I'm "smored out" for the summer already), and people here rarely use Hershey chocolate. A lot of people use the individually wrapped squares of Belgian chocolate, but our favourite is Celebration cookies -- I prefer the dark chocolate to go with the sweet marshmallows.

as a general rule, water wings/floaties aren't really safe .. vests like the ones at WDW are a better choice. Especially with so many children to keep up with at once.

I'm sure that Hershey just didn't want to be a paid sponser so that is why you didn't see the name any more.

When companies and sponsors give away free products, trips or money it just raises the prices of the items for the rest of us that have to pay for it. That is why their was a big change in the way drug sales people can market their products. Gone are the free lunches, trips, endless supply of products and dinners for doctors and their staff.
You don't think that the cabinet company that is redoing the kitchen isn't going to make up the freebie on other consumers?? I don't have a problem when stuff is donated for shows like Extreme Home Makeovers that benefit needy or ill people, but this greedy Gosselin family?? A poster a while back said she wouldn't support sponsors who supported this show and I think she is right on!!!!

It's called advertising. it promotes sales of the product, which makes money for the company and then they don't have to lay off their employees.

I"m not sure I understand what you are saying. The name Hershey was clearly shown, and they also had a commercial during the show.

I don't think you'll see this going away anytime soon. That is how businesses advertise and sell items. Of course the price of your items will reflect the 'giveaways'. The price of your item already has the advertising built in. I do it myself. I give lots of stuff away, but you better believe my name is nice and clear on the front, and there is a business card inside. That's my best way of advertising.
Most all TV shows have placement ads, and certainly the reality ones like survivor, J & K, and Amazing Race are on TV just because of that..that's where the winning money comes from and the crew's salaries.

Was it just me, or did the whole "Kate goes to the beach while Jon stays and helps 'fix' the house" thing seem like something that would have happened had they been going through the divorce or not?

Also, I enjoyed when the girl from the Kitchen planning group told Kate that Jon's idea of under the counter fridges was actually a tangible idea that was frequently used in their experiences. While her reaction wasn't big to it (a bit more astonished by his actual thoughtfulness, really), I nearly expected her head to spin.

I almsot felt as though they were treating each other more decently now that they've spent some time away from each other and "away from the spotlight." I don't expect them to patch up the marriage, but i'm glad they can at least behave decently toward one another while in front of the kids.

Interesting article but a little on the anti-female side. I agree there is a stereotype that divorced women hold things together for the kids. But stereotypes often have there roots in reality--that is why they are stereotypes. I think the article is correct that TLC is probably going to play up the Kate side for a couple of reasons 1) women make up the majority of there demographics 2) Kate is more willing to work with the good and bad aspects of doing the show (call it greed, ambition, drive, whatever) but most importantly--3) Kate really has proven to be the more responsible parent thus far.

Oh, so Hershey moving their plant to Mexico isn't going to layoff employees?? They were advertising weren't they??

Did anyone notice the whole smores thing, with the strategically placed Hershey Bars, with the very first commerical after the segment being a Hershey's commercial.

It really made me sick to my stomach---how can these kids not be being used. I cannot believe in this day and age, there is no way for anyone seek protection on their behalf. With all the money being made by mom and dad, I do not understand why no one has not stopped production of this show, and sought outthe legalities in this family situation!!
Honestly, even without the product placement, I would have thought Hersheys, because Hershey bars are all I've ever used to make Smores.
I agree!!! Especially since Hershey is moving a bunch of jobs and a plant to Mexico but have money to splurge on Jon & Kate. I didn't think the roasting of marshmallows would ever end. Is Hershey chocolate organic?????

I don't think they ever said that they eat ONLY organic. Kate has said that they try to eat organic whenever they can. I think it's good that the kids can eat a little "junk" every now and then.

Oh, so Hershey moving their plant to Mexico isn't going to layoff employees?? They were advertising weren't they??

Actually, they aren't moving their whole plant to Mexico. The Hershey Co. still has their Hershey, Lancaster and Hazelton PA locations. They have one in VA as well as Illinois. What they did was close 2 of their locations (Oakdale, CA and Smith Falls, Canada) to move to Mexico instead. Still lots in the US though.

As LoraJ said, by advertising (product placement) that will generate more interest in the product, more sales of the product and thus create more jobs or at least keep the employees they have. How is that bad?
