Jon and Kate Plus 8 Official Thread - Part 5

i've been lurking a long time here and have not posted but just wanted to say that i agree with the above article about lots of children living through divorce and in a single parent household. that's true. but, most children do not have to live in this situation on television and in magazines. i feel so bad for these children and so aggravated at both parents. money isn't everything.

So they still selling that Kate is doing it all alone? People really don't know about the nannies, helpers and crew that helped Kate put up the tent and will get the kids in the car? How is that relatable? A big family with no money worries and multiple residences...? I don't get it. somebody needs to tell the kids it's a 'happy family' show. I'm not sure they would agree.

I think she will move to Maryland, we will see.

I'm guessing that won't be known until people start watching the show. At one point, Jon and Kate came clean about the notananny nanny, so they could show her and people would buy into it.

No doubt the ratings will be huge this week.

I wonder what Kate's explanation for the brand new kitchen is .. also wonder what whirlpool thinks about getting the shaft from the Gosselin house?

I'm not sure I agree with that. If you believe Jon and Kate's story, they didn't have much of anything after the sextuplets were born. Jon stood in line at the Salvation Army, etc. for assistance.

With that said, there were rumors and speculations from locals (posted on old websites that were around before the Gosselin blogs were started) that Jon and Kate had substantial savings.

i remember those old websites, and i tended to believe that the rumors and speculation about their substantial savings and possibly some other sources of income had some validity.

it never set right with me on the whole thing surrounding their appeal when the sextuplet's medicaid was discontinued-maybe it was because i worked administering that program for too long but it struck me that they were on one of the programs that's in place for people who ARE NOT considered financialy in hardship. i also remember them talking about how financialy strapped they were-both of them unemployed with no income coming in, but again, as vocal as they've been in laundry listing the charities and the organizations they had to stand in line for to seek help-i never once heard them say that they were (as some people refer to it) "reduced" to having to take foodstamps or welfare or wic, and lord let me tell you-any household with 8 kids and 2 parents would have to have some significant income and or resources to whack them out of eligibility for some of the programs that were in place when those kids were born (and some of the charities they mentioned getting help from were ones that at least when i administered the program did'nt help our welfare/foodstamp clients-they sent them right back to us, but they were hugely popular with people who had/made too much for welfare because they did'nt make them prove what was in their savings accounts or what income they had from other sources:sad2:).

i dunno-in many ways i think j&k's perception of "not having much of anything" may be very different from what many others like myself think of as "not having much of anything". it's kind of the same thing as i go through with my mother-my mindset is that so long as i can pay for my family's expenses (not brand name clothing for the kids, just what they need to clothe, house, feed and take healthy care of them) and idealy put even a few dollars aside each month for an emergency i have a whole lot, my mom on the other hand-unless she's got tens of thousands of dollars at her immediate disposal AND not only can pay her expenses but put many hundreds of dollars aside each month for her emergency fund feels like she does'nt "have much".

i think if the true numbers were known-j&k's "not much" might be very similar to what allot of parents with similar size families might consider "a whole lot".

What do you mean about Whirlpool?

What do you mean about Whirlpool?

there was a whirlpool commercial/episode on February 16, 2009 ... right after they moved into the new house. Jon & Kate got all new commercial grade Whirlpool appliances in the house.

The new episodes look very boring!! They also look very staged.

the episodes tonight are staged. are there any that aren't?

we know that Jon & Kate picked up at least one shipment of camping supplies some weeks ago, so it isn't like the kids just wanted to go camping and Kate complied, as the previews suggest. They've already done a camping show, what happened to those supplies?

and we also know all about the trip to North Carolina. I can't imagine there's anyone out there that doesn't. :lmao:

I have no idea if they did recieve welfare. The people working in those offices are supposed to keep that info quiet. That wouldn't be something most people would brag about. That said, wasn't Kate working as a nurse after the babies were born, and then it was decided she would stay at home? I doubt very much that they would have had substantial savings and other incomes and still qualified for medicaid, unless it's very different in PA from NY.

All of this stuff wasn't just handed to them. Working for a cat rescue group, I know it's work to get donations. It takes a lot of asking, and figuring out who would help. They didn't just get the donations in most cases, they had to show the items in the show and then make sure they were placed or shown and used. It was a give-take relationship. She asked, and got, they gave and had rules in place. Not much different from what we do for the cats. Gymboree didn't just give clothes because Kate and Jon had 8 kids. They gave because it was beneficial to them. They all benefitted.

i remember those old websites, and i tended to believe that the rumors and speculation about their substantial savings and possibly some other sources of income had some validity.".

Y'all have a great Monday .. we FINALLY have some pool weather again, so I'm outta here! :cool1:

It hadn't, but I did read it. This is about standard for bigger church speakers. It's beneficial to our church, because it's a love offering, versus a set fee. Although we generally vote as a board on what we want to offer, and if the love offering doesn't come up to enough, we add to it. If the speaker gets more..then good for them. At this time, this would not be a speaker our church would consider, because of the divorce, but I still would like to hear Kate speak.

having seen Kate at a church, before all the hullaballoo, I thought it was an interesting read. And it didn't really reveal anything to me that was out of the ordinary as far as speakers & churches go. From what I understand, though .. that was an old agreement, written by Jon and Kate. The fees went way up after they had professional representation.

I wish that I could come across articles like that without the speculation and crap that goes along with being posted on a tabloid site. I had genuine interest in that info, and thought others might want to read it .. but the tone on radaronline is so snarky, that I can see where someone might think I was sharing it because of that, which isn't the case.

My fellow KY-girl Madge always knows the dirt and gives us links without any snark attached. I agree Rador is snarky but many times correct!

I thought the contract was interesting but not all that out of line. I presented at an out-of-state Professional Development for teachers about three years ago and my airfare and accomodations were paid plus dinner the night I presented. Now, since it was for a school where a friend is principal that is absolutely all I expected but as I left for the airport, she said she felt like she had taken advantage of me and gave me an envelope with a check from the school. $800 minus my airfare. Wow!

Since then, I've paid a lot more attention to how much my district has paid for speakers for opening day. Our last famous speaker--published two books--got an eye-popping $12,000 for a day and half. The average I have seen over the last few years is around $4,000 to $5,000. Many of these people have only published in educational-type journals. Kate has two best sellers--by that standard she is selling yourself way too cheap;)

I think the contract that was posted by Radar Online is a very old one. I think it is the one that was being used before they hired their PR people. If I recall correctly they actually cancelled many churches/engagements when they went to their "new contract".

I think most of us recognize and separate out the snarky part.

I actually have more problem reading stuff on another board I'm on, because no one will admit to watching the show, yet, they read things like radar, when they post about the show, and then post as if it's fact, (about how she talks to her kids, and that she doesn't hug them, her attitude, etc) and they never saw it. They just read about it. Then when someone who did see it says, I didn't see it that way, they get snarky..because they read it on radar, so it must be true LOL!

:scared1: Doris, are you dividing your time between us on the fabulous J&K thread and some other board??

I always take radaronline with a grain of salt. They do seem to be correct more often than not but still, it's a tabloid site IMO. Personally, I'd love to hear Kate speak and form my own opinions about her and what she says/how she says it. Something tells me though that she won't be doing many church engagements now that she and Jon are divorcing.

Hey, where are you Michelle VW? I had another dream about your BFF Kate. She was actually asking my advice on how to deal with the divorce! A definite sign that I am much too interested in this family and spend too much time reading this thread!!:laughing::laughing:

Would you give her money? Not then, but today if you saw her speak?

From the TLC article:
'Oh, my God, how is Kate going to get them all in the minivan by herself?' "

Uhhh, they are 8 and 5 years old. I would assume by now that they can all walk to the minivan by themselves, climb in by themselves, some can probably even buckle themselves in! At worse, Kate might have to buckle them in!! (Or rather, the nanny will buckle them in or someone from the tlc crew and then Kate will act like she did.)
