Jon and Kate Plus 8, Official Thread-Part 4

And it takes an hour to announce, "We're getting a divorce"?

If this is true, what a desperate attempt on the part of TLC to pull their viewers back in.. If there weren't 8 little children involved, I would find their grasping at straws hilarious..

Yeah I thought that too. But maybe they will show their decision and then show how they tell the kids and give the audience the full impact of it including where they will go from here. My thoughts are probably Kate will go on with the show. I mean she has already stated that in people mag so I can see that coming in the future Kate plus 8. Keep it similar to the show that is already titled. Like the Duggars do when they add a child. I think it was 16 kids and counting now it is 18 kids and counting just modifying the title.

If they do announce they are getting divorced will you watch? The show is already not the same will it just be Kate and the kids? I wonder who will watch that? I would think she would pull the plug on the show at this point.

they (Kate and the kids) were filming less than a week ago for future episodes... something tells me that they'll change the show to Kate + 8 and roll right on.

..Unless the spanking incident with Kate and Leah is the straw that broke the camels back (Or possibly the paparazzi that lead to Kate calling the police)... and they have decided to make the announcement and pull the plug on future episodes (or possibly announce its the last season). :confused3

I'm not going to watch. I did watch the season 5 premiere and cried my eyes out, it was so depressing. There's no way I'm going to contribute anymore by watching any of the shows, new or re-runs. I wish they would just fade into the background and work this all out.

I agree with some of the other posters though, I could see Kate wanting to continue as a single Mom of 8. That would reach a whole new demographic which I'm sure TLC has been thinking about. :sad2: How can they sleep at night (TLC) knowing what they've contributed to? Allowing J&K to deal with this on the show is so tacky IMO and frankly not something I'd like to watch. Just have your PR person release a statement and be done with it. Why make it part of the show? What are the Gosselin kids going to think when they're older and can watch their parent's marriage crumbling on screen? :sad2:

Does anyone else want the big announcement to be "Our marriage is in serious trouble and we owe it to ourselves and our kids to make every effort to repair it"?.
------------------------

If - and it's a BIG "if" - this was the announcement and they pulled the plug on the show, they might actually regain my respect..
--------------------

I really hope that people don't watch. Don't give anyone the satisfaction of more financial gain for this train wreck.

I agree.. Less viewers equals less $$$..

Ironically, someone sent me an email a little while ago indicating that at least one web site has stated that this sudden "dramatic" announcement was planned by TLC - in hopes of drawing in as many "high paying" sponsors as possible (even more than the first episode of Season 5) - because TLC is very aware that this may be the "kiss of death" for the "Jon & Kate Plus 8" show.. Grab as much money as they can in one fell swoop - then deal with the fall out afterwords.. As long as their pockets are lined with "green", that's all that really counts..

Greed - what a wonderful thing..

Hopefully someone outside the underground will read these remarks. I'm off to google grassy knoll, because I have NO idea what that means. LOL.
---------------------

Did you figure out what the "grassy knoll" is yet? Hint: JFK - "second shooter"..;)

Wow, you're good!

And there I am on page 6, 11-13-2007, following the show as a fan.

I finally found what I think is my first post, on July 8.

I was griping about the free Gymboree. Imagine that. LOLOL.

From what it looks like, the thread had been around for about 8 months, then the cupcake episode aired and things began to get busier and more heated.

Anyone watching the show on WE Raising Sextuplets?????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm shocked to see I started the thread over 18 months ago.
I remember there were 2 threads going and the other one got shut down, because of trolls and nastyness. I begged everyone to behave so we could keep the thread open. Strange now, that another one opened up on the DIS asking for "no bashing".

I feel, I just lost faith. To me they are not whom the seem anymore, and it is to painful to watch. I'm really sorry to the other thread if they feel this thread turned to which it wasn't ever intended to be. I guess we were all heavily invested and interested and I got blind sited by Jon and Kate.

I don't think you need to apologize for anything OhMari. People here (including myself) are responsible for our own comments. I didn't feel like it was a bash fest but that's just my opinion. Obviously people did which is why the other thread was started. Don't feel bad at all. I have been enjoying this thread and the one before that and the one before that! :goodvibes

Do you mean pointing out what is undeniably happening before our very eyes? ;) Yes, reality of life has overtaken the reality of the 'show'. I imagine it will get worse before it gets better.

Oh yes, I do remember that.

Honestly, I think this thread has been very balanced. Not everyone is going to share the same opinion. If you want to read a thread that is all lollipops and rainbows, then maybe it is best to stay away from this one. :)

I am sure the show will go on even without Jon.....Kate is not going to give up the "gravy train" no matter what.

I agree, we are. It isn't you, it's us. While I have enjoyed this thread and learned from it, I also will enjoy the other thread, where we are back talking more about the show and the what if's, rather than the hair, and bathing suit/body, and the looks of J & K.
I plan on staying on both threads.

Here's an article from a week ago - it's interesting to see it from another "side":

Behind the scenes of 'Jon & Kate Plus 8' studios scramble
By Luciana Chavez
McClatchy Newspapers

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — When the TLC hit reality show "Jon & Kate Plus 8" returned May 25, viewers noticed that Jon and Kate Gosselin sat separate for interviews.

The solo interviews, addressing their marriage and eight children, don't signal a happy, united front in Gosselin land.

The couple's woes on their Pennsylvania homestead — as reported in supermarket tabloids — aren't an idle distraction in Raleigh, N.C. Employees of Serious Robots and Blazing Music + Sound, divisions of Trailblazer Studios in Raleigh, do the postproduction work for the show.

The editing experts at Serious Robots and the sound experts at Blazing Music + Sound toiled nonstop last month, not knowing what was going on with the Gosselin marriage or what those troubles might mean for the show.

And no one at TLC or Figure 8 Films, the show's Carrboro, N.C.-based production company, is talking.

Before all the drama, the show's producers sought to give it a different sort of update. Serious Robots and Blazing Music + Sound have been reshaping the look and sound of the show since the Season 4 finale aired March 24.

The show "had 54 episodes last season, so it can get long in the tooth pretty fast," says Leah Welsh, executive producer at Serious Robots. "How do we continue to have people tune in? There are so many options on TV, if something becomes boring, it's gone."

Gosselin look

Some last-minute scrambling is normal for Figure 8 and the show's postproduction crew in Raleigh.

For the premiere, seven editors, five in-house and two freelancers worked four days, with visits from TLC and Figure 8 personnel and many coffee runs and pizza deliveries, to put the show together.

"What has become challenging on 'Jon & Kate' is, the network and the audience are so hungry for new episodes, every episode we make gets (broadcast) instantly," she says. "Getting behind is not an option."

The visual folks at Serious Robots were expecting Season 5 to be more complicated; the show's producers want the content to mature as the Gosselin children do. Welsh says the interviews should feel different, too: less rehashing, more analysis.

The show will also have more destination and theme episodes. Welsh says the update won't strip the show of the raw quality fans love.

"There are no setups," she says. When Kate snaps at Jon and he rolls his eyes or the sextuplets erupt into giggles, it's real.

"We let those moments play out," Welsh says. "We don't really edit around (Kate). We haven't really found any need to."

Gosselin sound

Three weeks ago, during a recording session in Durham, N.C., composer Dan Miller briefly stopped work on new music for 'Jon & Kate' to pick up a guitar and give a dead-on rendition of Eddie Van Halen's finger-tapping solo from the Van Halen classic, "Jump."

The virtuosity and energy, though not the guitar-god gymnastics, is exactly what sound/audio executive producers Eric Johnson and Aaron Keane have been working to inject into the show's fifth season.

Miller and Raleigh native Jim Crew composed 30 new songs for Season 5.

Though Blazing Music + Sound has been in charge of sound mixing for the reality show since the beginning, in 2006, this was the first time that Johnson and Keane rocked out the actual music for the show.

"I think what we add is feel," Miller says.

"You get a little nervous, because you know a lot of eyes will be on it," Keane says. "No one is going to get off scot-free on (such a high-profile show). But as the time goes on, we're getting less and less nervous."

Gosselin future

Figure 8, Serious Robots, and Blazing Music + Sound work well together, churning out "Jon & Kate Plus 8" and TLC's other show about a big family, "18 Kids and Counting," among others.

Figure 8 also signed a contract to take over production of "Table for 12" from ABC for the show's next season. Serious Robots and Blazing Music + Sound will work on those shows as well.

Everyone is busy. The days before the "Jon & Kate" premiere, the postproduction people existed in a haze of work, phone calls and more work.

Welsh says it is no hardship. The New York native, who worked for years in Los Angeles, finds Raleigh the right place to do grueling work.

"By the end of the week, people will be dead, but it will be fun," she says.

"That's what makes Raleigh such a great place. It's refreshing. We're truly grateful to be working on a show as successful as 'Jon & Kate Plus 8.' We're very proud of it."

From the bolded comments above:

Well - looks like more vacations in the Gosselin's future!

I guess I didn't realize someone actually wrote all the music for the show! 30 songs seems like a lot!

I also didn't realize ABC produced Table for 12. I've only watched it a couple of times. Wonder when they'll be getting a Disney trip since ABC is producing (unless they're already done with their first season)??
