Jon and Kate Plus 8, Official Thread-Part 3

My grandma had 5 kids....I had a friend who was one of 8 kids....but my point still is, they were not all the same age and that is a HUGE difference.

Once they can walk, talk, wipe their own butts, and follow direction, being the same age really doesn't make it any harder. 8 young kids is 8 young kids. That's a lot for anyone, regardless of the situation. The only person I see who seems to expect a medal for venturing out with that many kids is Kate Gosselin.

Oh....for the good ole days when this thread was fun and TSW and I could argue with Madge and it was so nice and pleasant...not mean and nit picky...

"I don't like Kate's clothes"
"she should stay home more"
"she is a loser and needs to support the kids"
blah blah blah...

I don't think Kate is perfect....she's got some issues....but to some posters she can and never will do anything right....which is why this thread is now turning into GWOP 2.

I have stayed away from most other J&K threads because they were too nasty. This one was never a Kate "lovefest" but it was a place for good debate and conversation. Now it's just a lot of nasty speculation....and digs on her appearance...

Most of us are former fans of the show and of Jon and Kate themselves. The tone has changed on this thread because we see them for who they truly are now (well, who they've become, anyway) and that makes it very easy to be critical. The way they have changed, there isn't much left to like about them.

Bottom line for me is...Kate is a flawed human being..but I like her!...She is someone I could imagine being friends with...I think she works hard for her kids and I did think she had a good marriage..(yes there are problems now..but that doesn't make her the devil incarnate)

As for Jodi...I don't like her...she has publically tried to disgrace her SIL...she thinks she is some sort of moral crusader..I was embarrased for her doing that vid...I don't think she gives two hoots about the gosselins..ALL..of them...she is jealous and spiteful!

Just my opinion of course....I trust my own instincts..they usually serve me well.


Oh and I stay away from GWOP....really screwed up people over there....no wonder Kate needs a bodyguard!

Bragging, really? That's funny considering we're talking about Kate! My aunt did it quietly without hoopla and fanfare, cameras and crews, pitty parties and book tours. She's just like many, many other women who don't think they deserve a pat on the back and an extravagent lifestyle for having many children. It's a decision she made and she did the best she could.

As for the "if we had this conversation in person instead of a computer", that sounds a little confrontational, as if you'd like to put me in my place, but of course, only if it were "in person". This is getting ridiculous. I'm going to move on and continue to "Hate Kate" while you all continue on with your "Hero Worship". Ciao!

Nope not confrontational. But I dislike it when people say, "Oh you wouldn't say that to my face, you are hiding behind the computer." I was just clarifying that what you see is what you get with me, ask TSW I'm same person IRL that I am behind the computer.

And I don't think Kate is a hero...

I'd just like to add that I enjoy the different opinions on this thread...its not all Kate Loving.......And I certaintly don't hero worship..Iam aware of her faults..but I still like her!

But I don't think anyone here actually HATES kate!....like they seem to on GWOP...There are people who dislike her...just like I dislike Jodi....but if anyone actually "Hates"....then that is plain scary

I enjoy the difference of opinion too...but omg it's gotten crazy lately...

I love how you can attack other people's posts but when it comes to you, you're off limits apparently. Why is it that you think that since you've been on this thread since the beginning, that you're entitled to decide which way the thread should go? This isn't the first time you've made comments that make me think you feel you own this thread. I find it very rude. It's about J&K so people can comment how they like, yes? I certainly wouldn't consider it the GWOP 2 but I guess you would since people are not all gushing about Kate. Remember too that a lot of scandal has come down on J&K in the last month which explains why so many people are upset and commenting. If people are upset about Kate, then they can voice it here. If people find her inspiring then they can voice it here. Personally I find the debate here about J&K very interesting.

In my opinion the thread at that time had become a clique thread with chit-chat about non-related stuff. Newbies to the thread were ridiculed when they didn't catch on to the insider jokes (such as fake trips with Kate to WDW) Any talk of criticism of Kate was immediately shutdown. I really had my feelings hurt and expressed that sentiment. I wanted to thank you, 3prettyprincesses, for being one of the people who was kind to me when I posted about being hurt.

I just hope that this thread can be one that is welcoming to both sides of the Kate issue. It is nice to see some balance. I am enjoying reading both sides.

No problem. I too like to see the balance on this thread. Sometimes it keeps me from being too critical of Kate, you know? It is definitely an interesting thread! Never a dull moment!

They were wearing cute little dresses.....I don't think they looked like they were in anything special. It's how I dressed my girls and yep....they used to match...

Me too and I have boys! Whenever we go anywhere big (like Disney or anything) they are always dressed alike. It's easier for me to pick them out of the crowd or, God forbid, if I ever had to describe what one was wearing I could say the same thing as the other one. That's just me though liking my boys to be matchy matchy like that! I plan to continue so long as they'll let me!

They're very strongly picking and choosing which comments to post and which to not. Mine didn't make it through and neither did posts by at least 4 others I know. They weren't super critical, just honest and encouraging. However, they weren't part of the love-fest going on there right now.

How many people believe Kate wrote the blog? Compare it to her writings in her books or her comments made in magazines and on tv interviews. Do you still think she wrote it? I'll eat the paper this comment is printed on if it's proven she actually wrote it.

I thought that had to be the case with the comments because they were all lovely. I don't think that's right on TLC's part. Is there a part on their website (I honestly don't know) that has "rules" for posting comments?

Did anyone else realize that Kate waited until the day before the party to go by the party stuff? Most moms I know have that stuff well in advance, but we usually forget something and have to send dh out to get it.

I thought it was a little weird since she's mentioned she's a planner. She could have called in advance (I usually scope out the store or call a week or two in advance of when I'm going to shop) to be sure they had everything in stock that she was planning on (I would assume like the Backyardigans piniatas but the stuff they were going to put in, whatever was there I'm sure worked fine). I already have the stuff for the treat bags for DS4's party in July but only because I bought them 50% off after Easter!

Although I wasn't involved in this thread right from the very beginning, I haven't seen anyone here state that they "hated" Kate.. Did I miss those posts?

I haven't seen this either but there have been many posts lately regarding all the things Kate's doing "wrong" (whatever your definition of that may be). I think we're all entitled to share our thoughts in a calm, reasonable, respectful manner.

I think a lot of people are just trying to voice their concern with the way they feel the kids are being treated as well as the inconsistancies. I know personally I'm not always the best at putting what I want to say in writing. I certainly hope I haven't offended anyone - that was never my intention!

See now I'm the dummy who still doesn't know what GWOP is....I keep hearing how terrible it is but not sure. Thank goodness for the DIS boards!

I do think the last thread was a bit more "fun loving" but at that point the only "chatter" was from the shows themselves and the occassional person who saw them speak (thanks for that report madge!). I know I wasn't around for thread 1 and jumped into the middle of thread 2, but I enjoy having a place that I can come and hear both sides. Some people honestly bring up points that I hadn't thought about before and it's nice to think about things differently. I certainly hope no one leaves the thread - everyone's offering their thoughts and opinions on the situations presented. Hopefully everyone can continue to be nice about it - no name calling or rudeness (not meant at anyone in particular by the way!)

That is really stretching it...no one was ridiculed. There was another poster who actually thought we were serious too and laughed at herself when she realized we were just kidding. It was a freaking joke.....and not a mean one either..

Madge criticizes Kate and yet she is apparently in the "clique", so if we do have a "clique" (which we don't), non Kate lovers are allowed in....

Goodness, now you're criticizing this poster for how she feels she was treated? You really are coming across as confrontational and condescending. I'm not trying to start anything either, I'm just honestly saying that's how it is coming across...

As for Madge, she is very polite and can get her point across without making others feel ridiculed, attacked or belittled. I appreciate that. Nobody is saying we all have to agree but we can at least be civil and have manners.

I never said that only Kate lovers were in the clique. I saw that Madge was accepted. My complaint is that many people felt left out. It is possible to create a discussion thread about J&K for bright, interesting people that did not have to feature the ritual disemboweling of newbies as part of the group's bonding and self-identification process like GWOP does. Luckily, this is not GWOP but the DisBoard where I think we are accepting of both pro-Kate supporters and those that don't like Kate and those in the middle ground.

New posters are friends we just haven't yet gotten to know rather than barbarians intent upon ruining all that the current inhabitants have come to cherish. I welcome the fresh new faces and opinions. It keeps the thread lively.

It is great that one posters aunt had 7 kids and was able to leave the house as happy as can be, me I only have 3 and it can be a pain. Everyone feels different about things that is why we are different, thank god.

I thought this was an interesting article by CBS...they interviewed Gloria Alred the famous attorney who is trying (or was trying?) to bring allegations against Octomom for exploiting her babies. Link is below:

(CBS) "Jon and Kate Plus 8" is the reality television version of "Eight is Enough," but the stars of the show, Jon and Kate Gosselin, seem to have had enough -- of each other.

The parents of sextuplets and twin girls, tabloids allege, are cheating on each other. Jon is being linked to a 23-year-old teacher and Kate to her bodyguard. While both have denied the rumors, it’s no secret to fans that that couple has been fighting.

But this alleged scandal has left some thinking, "What about the eight kids?"

Gloria Allred, an attorney and child advocate, appeared on The Early Show Thursday from Los Angeles to talk about the children’s welfare as they do the show.

She told Early Show co-anchor Maggie Rodriguez the show does eliminate the children’s privacy -- a sacrifice that their parents have made for financial benefit.

" ...Everybody -- including children -- should have a zone of privacy," Allred said. " ...We don’t know what price these little ones are gonna pay because their lives are ... large on the television screen."

But the children, according to Allred, have some legal protection.

"Every state does regulate to protect the health, the safety and welfare of little child performers," Allred said. "And these little ones are only eight years old and five years old, they can’t protect themselves, so the state has to be sure that they are safe in their workplace."

And in this case their workplace is their home -- where everyone is compensated. Some family members have begun questioning motives -- especially Kate’s.

In a recent interview, Kate’s brother and sister-in-law, Jodi Kreider, accused Kate of putting money ahead of the kids.

"'Jon and Kate Plus 8' is not reality," Kreider told the Web site RadarOnline. "It has turned into a huge moneymaking machine, and that is everyone's priority. ...Watching this family destruct should not be used as a form of entertainment."

But Michelle Tan, a staff writer at People magazine, said Kate does the show for the sake of her children.

"She'll continue to do the show as long as her children benefit from it," Tan said, "and as long as it never compromises their happiness."

Jon Gosselin has said that he and his wife have been "going through a lot of stuff" and have been "discussing what’s best" for their kids.

Rodriguez asked Allred about safeguards on the children’s money while they do the show. There are special accounts, Allred said, to stop child actors’ parents or handlers from squandering their money before they come of age.

"In states like California, we have ... accounts," she said, "where money has to be set aside for the children, so that when they get to be adults, they’re going to have some of their earnings."
