Like any of us are surprised about that...

Honestly they seem like a sweet couple and I wish them well, but I think their lifestyle is a little whacked.

The more I see their show the more I see them less as out of mainstream, but more as balanced, loving and tender-hearted. The really do live out their life according to their faith-based principles and I don't think I've ever seen them portrayed as critical of others or judgmental. Kudos to them! I think they're a lovely family.

The girls do look a lot more mainstream these days. I saw a picture from 2005 or something and the girls all looked really plain. Now they have make up and look more "normal" (I hate to use that word). I do think the whole no dancing thing is just crazy though. A 5 year old can't dance because dancing brings out lustful thoughts??!! :confused3 No father-daughter dance at the wedding because dancing is lustful?? :confused3 I think that is just insane....

But no more talk about the Duggars for me this morning, I need to get ready and go to my bible study group for my church that lets us sing and dance!! :thumbsup2

Sorry if I didnt explain that well. When the couple was married, they had one son together (biological son). Larry's wife died of cancer when their son was 2 1/2. After that, Larry decided to pursue adoption, and ended up with 8 adopted kids(HE Didn't adopt them all at once, over the course of years), and one biological son he had when he was married. He said being a single male it was hard to adopt in the USA, so he pursued out of the country adoption. His biological son is 19 now..The last child he adopted is now 3.
They showed a small glimpse into his life, doing laundry, cooking, doing the girls hair, matching outfits..all the normal stuff that the majority of mothers do. It was very ineresting..now that would be make a good TLC show.

Does sound like a good story - maybe TLC should have a series showing different families struggling with daily lives instead of focusing on one and letting America love or hate them. Maybe each week showcase something different from like five families for the series?? Does that make sense? Like show how two families go about the same kinds of things - maybe a Disney trip - one week and the next week show one of those families and another family going about cooking and cleaning and the next week show two of the families going about a day at the park. Help to show people that everyone has struggles and everyone does things differently. I know there would still be criticism of the families but maybe because you're not with them each and every day it wouldn't be as bad?? Who knows....I'm a loon! :rotfl:

I've thought the same thing about the paper plates ... they must go through a lot! The expense of it, as well as the trash it creates?

I wonder if they ever considered putting in (they may have) a commercial dishwasher? Maybe it's not a good idea, I don't know?

I thought Kate said (a while back) that she'd tried using "real" plates and it was too much work so they used paper. I would think they'd either use lots of paper plates or use lots of water washing the regular plates - I don't know which is worse honestly. It would be nice if they could eat like breakfast and dinner on "real" plates and lunch on paper maybe??

Target didn't have that much. I was really shocked when I saw how little they had. But I did manage to get a couple of 6-pack Reese's eggs and some Rolo's. Walgreens - peanut M&Ms but nothing at CVS. :)

Ugh! I wanted the Reese's eggs (those are my FAVORITE!!) and of course neither Target or Walmart had ANY last night! I did go to Walmart last night and they had all kinds of sports things in the Easter stuff and my 4 year old said he wanted a sports birthday party this year so I made out very well - his goody bags are DONE for his party in July! :cool1:

Shame on your TotalSnowWhite for not being clear!:lmao: Actually I would agree with your clarified statement. Moms are hard on each other and I bet there are Moms who think they'd do it differently and better. I don't know man, I have only 3 (granted we homeschool so I'm with them a lot!) but I'm convinced that kids have a special talent for making their parents crazy:lmao: I say that with all the love I have for my 3 girls too so don't think I'm a bad Mama for saying it!

I like the Table for 12 fam so far. I hope they can maintain normalcy too. :thumbsup2 That sweet little commercial where the Mom is holding her little girl and she says "T-L-C." Cute!:goodvibes

I think Moms are a LOT more tough on each other. I try very hard not to be, but every now and again, I catch myself saying something like "if that were my child they would NOT be acting like that"....then I think about it and realize yeah they probably would and I just need to relax. :rotfl2:

Haven't seen that commercial but will have to check it out.

agreed.

and here's something I thought of .. why is it Today Show and Larry King Live newsworthy that they're pregnant? I mean, seriously? They're a young married couple .. it can't be a surprise that they're starting a family.

Do people really care that much?
Does the media think people care that much?
Do the Duggars want us to care that much?

I totally agree with that! I wasn't on those shows when I had either of my kids! I would have told the world about it to get some free stuff! :rotfl: Well maybe...I guess it would depend on what I was getting!

Another aside (sorry guys!)...I saw on the crawl this morning on Good Morning America that Octomom has all of her babies home now. I'm surprised we haven't heard more about her lately. It seems everyone's doing a good job staying out of the spotlight these days!

Yes, yes and yes! ;)

If you think about it paper is probably the better way to go for most meals for them. They would have to run the dishwasher more than once in a day. For each meal with all of them eating is 10 plates and/or bowls, cups and forks/spoons. My sister had two kids and they run theirs practically every day.

that's what made me wonder about a commercial dishwasher, especially when they moved and (I think???) got pretty much all new appliances. With all the energy efficient appliances out there now, it might not be that bad.

this isn't commercial/restaurant quality, but something like this might be a good choice?

I'm sure that someone researched paper vs. dishwasher, etc. to see what's the best choice for them, though.

They would have done well with a drawer dishwasher - have the 2 drawer Fischer and Paykal dishwasher. Each drawer is big enough that they could have fit everything from one meal into it and just run it right there and still have the second drawer available for any overflow.

I can see how it would be a lot of work though. Unloading the dishwasher(and putting away clothes) are my least favorite chores to do. I would rather scrub toilets so if I had dishes for 10 people and all those loads to unload I'd be using paper every meal too.

Hey, I saw you over on the restaurant boards!:goodvibes

Hmmm, various families, that's not such a bad idea actually. Initially that is what made J&K so charming to watch, the everyday struggles of how to get them all fed, out the door, to the store etc. You hit the nail on the head though...we do watch them and it feels like we know a lot about them since the show is on so frequently. :confused3

Ya, but they switch to using a dishwasher 5 times a day, then eveybody will harp on the amount of water they use! Plus, maybe they use recycled plates?? Who knows!

Ugh! I wanted the Reese's eggs (those are my FAVORITE!!) and of course neither Target or Walmart had ANY last night! Geez, my Target was completely picked over all the way up to Easter! Talk about annoying! Kudos on getting all the goody bag stuff! Isn't that funny, I don't ever remember getting goody bags from b-day parties as a child.

I think Moms are a LOT more tough on each other. I try very hard not to be, but every now and again, I catch myself saying something like "if that were my child they would NOT be acting like that"....then I think about it and realize yeah they probably would and I just need to relax. :rotfl2:

Yup! I catch myself saying it too and then luckily my 6 year old will throw a fit in the middle of Borders and bring me back to reality!:lmao:

I totally agree with that! I wasn't on those shows when I had either of my kids! I would have told the world about it to get some free stuff! :rotfl: Well maybe...I guess it would depend on what I was getting!

The only reason Josh & Anna's pregnancy made news is because of their last name, Duggar. The media is already expecting them to follow in Jim Bob and Michelle's shoes! They seem like a great family though and I agree that the girls look more up to date! It's obvious they all love each other and that's pretty cool for such an enormous family!

Another aside (sorry guys!)...I saw on the crawl this morning on Good Morning America that Octomom has all of her babies home now. I'm surprised we haven't heard more about her lately. It seems everyone's doing a good job staying out of the spotlight these days!

Oh honey, didn't you hear? They want to give her her own show!!

I hate the dishwasher, too. That's my kids (and sometimes DH) job, so I rarely have to fool with it these days ;)

I'll be curious to see how they address the paper plate issue on the earth day show. because it looks like they're using paper (as opposed to styrofoam) plates, and it doesn't look like they're using Chinet or Dixie plates. They look like the regular old cheap paper plates. The cheaper the plate (in quality, not necessarily price), the more plates they'd have to use at a time .. especially at dinner. I could see where there are days they'd go through a LOT of paper plates. Paper has to be better than styrofoam, though.

Whatever floats their boat, I guess. Aside from my curiosity about what they say on the show .. I don't really care what they eat off of. :upsidedow

I'm queen of OT this week...but I just had to :woohoo: because I just made the deposit for our week at the Treehouse Villas in September/October!!!

I saw you over on the rest. board too! :goodvibes

No I didn't hear she was getting her own show. I can't keep up with my family plus the DIS plus J&K PLUS Octomom! :rotfl: I have to say I'd watch just once to see what it was all about...how unreal!

I too hate the dishwasher. Thankfully our nanny picked up on that! :rotfl:We're lucky enough that she generally loads/unloads for us while the boys are napping. I leave it for DH on the weekends! (yeah I know I'm terrible!)

I would think they would say something on the special coming up considering it's "going green" and all. It was a good excuse for the Gosselins to make some upgrades on TLC :thumbsup2

Take along a lot of bug spray.
Everytime that I have been on the Ferry and gone past the TreeHouses, there would be so many bugs and mosquito's. I'm sure Disney is going to spray, but they are really in a swamp area.

Madge, tomorrow I'm flying over your house. When we fly out of Milwaukee, the pilot always comes on the speaker after about an hour into the flight, and we are always over Kentucky. He then tells us, we are hooking a left towards Florida.

Everyone behave on this thread and someone PM me if anyone has any breaking news, I don't want to miss anything.

We'll be good...:rolleyes1

Have fun!:goodvibes

Did I just see a preview for a new Jon & Kate episode? They are putting solar paneling on the roof or something.

They're having a special on Earth Day - I think it's called "Gosselins go Green" or something like that.

A bit OT but kind of on topic, we have a film crew here today shooting a pilot show for Food Network. I have NO CLUE how J&K do it with 8 kids and all this equipment and lightening and everything else. They were here for six hours before they even shot anything - that's just how long it took them to set everything up! One of the guys said they generally tape about 10 days to get 10 minutes of "good" footage.... I'll post some pictures later of all of the "stuff" needed for our 15 minutes of fame (hopefully) :goodvibes

Are you sure it isn't going to be a Throwdown with Bobby Flay? I'd be prepared if I were you!

Cool! Are you in the food industry? You know, it may be a throwdown just like the poster above said! Bobby Flay is soooo funny! Good luck! :goodvibes
