Jon and Kate Plus 8 official Thread, Part 2!!

OK, I tivo-ed Entertainment Tonight last night -- Jon & Kate were in the "Real or Rumor" segment. ET has an interview with a writer at Us Weekly, they're running a story on Jon & Kate's possible/potential split in an upcoming issue... so the story was classified as "real". They followed up with a portion of the quote from Jon saying it's a rumor.... but it's a portion of the RadarOnline denial, nothing new.

Mainstream media has picked this up ... the prime time entertainment shows have picked this up ...

I have a bichon and I knew nothing about german shephards until that was posted

I never realized how much care they require.

So, basically the German Shepherd is the "bizarro" dog choice for this family. They would be hard pressed to find anything less suitable. I really want to give them credit for not being as dumb as they appear, but dang they seem to be clueless!
This puppy thing has really pushed me over the edge. Why aren't they crate training them? The poop and pee in the house is so unnecessary. Our lab didn't go in the house more than 3 or 4 times total, and this was when she was ten weeks old. It isn't because she is extraordinary or we are good dog trainers; she learned because we were consistent. Consistent with rewarding her when she went outside, and taking her out A LOT! No punishment. The kids cleaning up after them? Pulease. That is gross. Children that age can't and shouldn't be the primary care givers of these dogs. Why didn't they get Mady and Cara two guinea pigs as first pets?
I thought the kids were really rough with the dogs, and definitely unaware of their cues. Why would you get two dogs (to form a pack amongst themselves) and then declare them "outside" dogs? How is that a part of the family? They said on an old show they traded their two adult cats for the twins. Weren't they attached to them?
I think they purchased these dogs as guard dogs for their property. The name they gave the male and the breeder being in law enforcement...I really hope everyone stays safe.

Not sure if you can stereotype a dog by the breed - Our German shepherd was much more gentle with our young kids than our lab ever was. He put up with so much more from my little ones - the lab always bit and was rough with them. It depends on the personality of the dog.

I had a ger. shep. growing up and so did my dh. They were great dogs. My sister has two now. I agree - it depends on the personality. We loved our dogs. I have a lab now and he is also great. There is a very unfriendly lab in the neighborhood. They're all different.

Not all in every breed will get along with cats, children, shouldn't be trusted with small kids (always pulling tails- sure that will lead to a bite). All need good training, constant supervision, etc. That list, to me, was more common sense things about owning a dog in a general, not a German Shepherd.

Maybe we are talking about different episodes. I was watching her feed her kids breakfast and saying she was going to lose her mind, and would warn everyone before she did. She just didn't talk to her kids, didn't smile, didn't even look at them, she was just going through the motions.

I can admit, there have been several times I think I've just "gone through the motions". I don't think I'm a bad mother but there have been days that I have been in a really bad mood be it PMS, lack of sleep, etc. These are things that we don't see on the show.

So in a 5 minute snapshot of her life it's decided she doesn't interact with her kids?? Good Grief.....I'm glad no one filmed me during the end of the 97 Rose Bowl when my kids wanted something to eat and I said, "OMG JUST EAT SOME CRACKERS AND DON'T TALK TO ME AGAIN UNTIL THIS IS OVER!" Were my kids damaged?? Nope, they learned how important Ohio State Football is .

Maybe she had a headache, maybe she was tired, who the heck knows or cares why she wasn't all smiles and laughs making lunch..

I'm glad no one was filming read these last 4 pages of this thread, I kept shushing DD3 and told her to "be quiet I'm trying to read". She still seems happy.

That's hilarious I think everyone can admit that they've had these types of moments as parents. I know I have, but does that mean I'm a bad mom, and I don't interact with my kiddos.... I don't think so. Everyone has a bad day, or has a lot going on, that's life. Like I've said many times, I have no doubt that Kate loves and cherishes all of her kids very much, and knows what blessings she has (especially since it was so hard for her to have children to begin with.) Don't get me wrong, sure she says some things that aren't always perfect to her kids ect., but I don't know a mom/dad out there that doesn't.

I only have 3 kids, can't imagine having 8 and being criticized constantly because I'm not always warm & fuzzy & sugary sweet.


I told DH a few months ago that I wondered if their marriage would last. EVERYONE I've ever known to have their vows renewed ended in divorce. I hope their marriage is strong and they can get back to where they were. Hopefully it's just a rough patch with the move, puppies, and all.

I love the show, makes my life seem somewhat normal.

That is good to hear. I hope that ends up being the case with their dogs. I'm sure Maddy and Cara especially love them very much.

Okay...I got my People mag today. It basically says that Jon was away helping his mothe with her broken foot and hit some bars. He did not think the pics he posed for would cause such a prob.. He says that they are having a hard time raising their kids in front of millions. He also states that with Kate's career taking off he is lost.

Exactly. I have a Golden Retriever that can't stand kids. I wouldn't put it past him to bite one which is why I am VERY cautious when anyone other than my immediate family is around. We call him bipolar, but really he just has his quirks. If he is laying down don't mess with him or he WILL growl at you.....that's an easy fix, leave the dog alone when he's laying down. We don't have little kids in the house so it's not a big deal. When little kids come over (which is pretty much never) he would be put up. He's just a nervous dog, for no reason other than he's a fruitloop. He was socialized properly with kids/dogs/etc but he just gets nervous when things aren't in his perfect routine.

My sister has a Rottweiler that wasn't socialized at all, and that dog loves everyone. Same sister has a mini Australian Shepherd that loves EVERYONE and I mean EVERYONE and is the sweetest thing ever, this dog was not socialized at all (my sister really lives in the boonies). Her mini Aussi's full blooded sister was totally socialized and is scared of everyone and I do mean everyone!

My brother just had to put his very well socialized/trained German Shepherd down because the dog got out the other day and bit the neighbor for no apparent reason. My brother was a very responsible dog owner and this still happened, and being responsible he put the dog down knowing that he could never trust him again.

My other sister has a Heeler mix that is afraid of everyone who is not my sister and really hates men...why?? Because he's a fruitloop who knows?

You take your risk with ANY dog.....

You just don't know what your dog will end up like.

2. With Kate's career taking off he's lost? Then maybe they should discuss things, as a couple, and work something out. I hope they do. Because I find that statement incredibly sad

I'm glad you enjoyed it, thank you. They do require more care and caution than most dogs. That's why they're sometimes on the "uninsurable" list. I don't think it's about stereotyping, it's about facts. Within the breed there are variations of personalities, but their instincts are the same and those instincts are what sometimes gets them in trouble.

Madge you know I love the show, and I agree with you on both counts.

In my ubiquitous downtime (such as it isn't), I am contemplating starting a website called "Gosselins Without Pity Without Pity" where we can discuss women who have nothing better to do with their time than trash the Gosselins. Then, I could be accused of having nothing better to do with my time.

Of course, as Kate has proved time and time again, living well is the best revenge!!

I'm not so sure I'd call it living well when my husband is admitting our marital woes on national TV and magzines.
